Every everyday PDF task, done in your browser
PDFs are how the world sends finished documents: offer letters, bank statements, visa forms, invoices, class notes and signed contracts. They are also awkward to change. These free PDF tools cover the jobs that come up most often. You can merge PDF files into one tidy attachment, compress a PDF so it fits an upload limit, turn phone photos into a single document with JPG to PDF, rotate sideways pages, add page numbers and stamp a watermark, all without installing software or creating an account.
Each tool runs inside your browser. The file is read by JavaScript on your own phone or computer, the changes are made there, and the result is saved straight back to your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server, which matters when the document is a payslip, a passport scan or a medical report. It also means there is no upload bar to wait for and no daily quota, only the limits of your device’s memory.
The tools are built for real situations: a student combining scanned assignment pages, a small business numbering the pages of a tender, a tenant signing a rental agreement on a phone, or an office in London, Mumbai or Chicago marking a report as a draft before it goes round for comments. Page previews appear wherever they help, so you can see exactly what you are about to change before you save a new copy.
Which PDF tool do you need?
Several tools sound alike but do different jobs. Here is how to choose quickly:
- Split or extract. Split PDF cuts one file into several parts, by page ranges, single pages or every N pages. Extract PDF pages copies just the pages you pick into one new file.
- Delete or organize. Delete PDF pages is the fastest way to drop blank or unwanted pages. Organize PDF shows every page on a grid so you can reorder, rotate and remove in one pass.
- Pictures or words. Use PDF to JPG when you need an image of a page for a slide or a post. Use PDF to text when you need the words themselves to edit or paste elsewhere.
- Watermark or signature. Watermark PDF stamps a label such as “CONFIDENTIAL” across the pages. Sign PDF places your drawn, typed or uploaded signature exactly where it belongs.
Tips for smaller, cleaner PDFs
A few habits save time and avoid rejected uploads:
- Compression re-saves pages as images, so it shrinks scans and photo-heavy files dramatically but makes their text unselectable. For a PDF exported from a word processor, deleting pages you do not need is often enough.
- Upload portals often cap files at 1 or 2 MB. Merge first, then compress the merged file once, instead of compressing each part separately.
- A scanned PDF is only pictures of pages, so text extraction finds nothing. Convert the pages to images at 300 DPI and read them with the OCR tool in our image tools.
- Password-protected files cannot be changed until the protection is removed. Open the file with its password and use Print → Save as PDF to make an unlocked copy.
- Keep your original. Every tool saves a new file, so the source document stays untouched if you need to start again.
PDF Tools: frequently asked questions
Is it safe to edit confidential PDFs with these tools?
Yes. The PDF is opened, changed and saved by your own browser, and no copy is sent to a server or stored anywhere. The only thing downloaded is the open-source PDF library the tool needs, never your document.
How do I combine several PDFs into one file?
Open Merge PDF, add your files, drag them into the order you want and press Merge. You get one PDF containing every page, ready to email, upload or print.
How can I get a PDF under 1 MB or 2 MB?
Run it through Compress PDF and start with a moderate level; scanned documents usually shrink the most. If it is still too big, remove pages you do not need or split it into two parts.
Can I edit the text inside a PDF?
These tools work with whole pages, merging, splitting, rotating, numbering, stamping and signing, rather than retyping words on the page. To reuse the wording, extract it with PDF to text, edit it, then rebuild a clean document with text to PDF.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Sign PDF lets you draw a signature with your finger, type your name in a handwriting style or upload a photo of your signature, then drag it into place on the right page and download the signed copy.
Why does my PDF look blurry after compression?
Compression lowers the resolution and quality of the page images to save space. Choose a lighter level, or compress only scanned documents and leave digitally created PDFs as they are.
