View and change a PDF’s title, author, subject, keywords and dates — or strip all metadata in one click.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

View and edit PDF metadata in your browser

Every PDF carries hidden document properties: a title, the author’s name, a subject, keywords, the program that created it, the PDF software that produced it, and the dates it was created and last modified. The PDF Metadata Editor shows all of them, lets you change any field, and can strip them out completely before you share a file.

The title is what browsers show in the tab and what search engines often display for PDFs published on a website, so a clean title like “2025 Price List – Sharma Traders” looks far more professional than “Microsoft Word - final_v7.docx”. The author field, on the other hand, may reveal a personal name or a company login you would rather not send to a client.

Your file is read and rewritten entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the page content of your PDF is copied exactly as it is.

How to use the PDF Metadata Editor

  1. Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click it to choose a file.
  2. Review the current properties, along with the page count, page size and PDF version.
  3. Edit any field. Leave a field empty to remove it, and use “Set to now” to update the modified date.
  4. Press “Save PDF” to download the updated copy, or “Remove all metadata” to download a copy with every document property cleared.
  5. Changed your mind? “Undo changes” restores the values read from the file.

PDF Metadata Editor features

All standard fields

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation date and modification date — the eight properties defined in the PDF document information dictionary.

One-click metadata removal

Clears the information dictionary, including custom entries added by office software, and removes the embedded XMP metadata packet.

Handles XMP properly

Many PDFs keep a second copy of the metadata in XMP format. The editor offers to remove it so readers such as Adobe Acrobat show your new values instead of the old ones.

Any language

Titles and names in Hindi, Chinese, Arabic or with symbols such as ₹ and € are saved as Unicode and display correctly.

Useful file facts

See the number of pages, the paper size (A4, Letter and others) in millimetres and inches, and the PDF version.

Content untouched

Only the properties change. Text, images, links, bookmarks and form fields are kept as they are.

Why remove PDF metadata before sharing?

Metadata is easy to forget because PDF viewers hide it in a properties dialog. Yet it can reveal the real author of an anonymous document, the name of a template or an internal file, the software and operating system you use, or the fact that a “new” proposal was actually created two years ago.

Removing it is a sensible step before publishing a PDF online, submitting a document for blind review, or sending files to people outside your organisation. For a complete privacy clean-up, also check images inside the document — photos can carry their own EXIF data, which you can inspect with the EXIF Viewer before adding them — and consider marking copies with Watermark PDF.

Editing metadata does not change the page content. To shrink the file as well, run it through Compress PDF.

PDF Metadata Editor FAQ

How do I change the title of a PDF?

Open the PDF in the PDF Metadata Editor, type the new title in the Title field and press “Save PDF”. The downloaded copy shows the new title in browsers and PDF readers.

How do I remove all metadata from a PDF?

Load the file and press “Remove all metadata”. A copy is downloaded with the document information dictionary emptied and the XMP metadata removed.

Why does my PDF reader still show the old title?

Some PDFs store a second copy of the metadata in XMP format, and some readers prefer it. Keep “Also remove the older XMP copy” ticked when saving so only your new values remain.

Does editing metadata change the content of my PDF?

No. Pages, text, images, links and form fields stay exactly the same; only the document properties are rewritten.

Can I edit the metadata of a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. Open the file with its password in a PDF reader, save an unprotected copy, and edit that.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is read and saved by JavaScript in your browser, and never leaves your device.
