Plan the trip, keep the rules, and know where you are
Planning a trip means a lot of small sums: who owes whom after a group dinner, how long a layover really leaves you, how many Schengen days you have left, and what time your body thinks it is after a long flight. These free travel tools do those sums in your browser. The trip budget splitter tracks shared expenses in any currency and works out the fewest payments to settle up, the jet lag planner builds a light and sleep schedule for the days around a flight, and the layover calculator shows how much usable time a connection gives you once immigration, security and the walk to the gate are taken off.
Before you book, check the rules. The Schengen calculator applies the 90-days-in-any-180 rule to your past and planned stays and tells you when you can next enter. The country information lookup gives currency, dialling code, plug type, driving side, time zones and languages for any country, and the airport code lookup turns a three-letter IATA code into the airport, city and time zone, or finds the code from a city name.
For maps, the coordinate converter switches between decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds, UTM and what3words-style formats so you can paste a position from one app into another, and the great-circle route map draws the shortest path between two airports or points with the distance and an estimated flight time. Everything runs on your own device, so your itinerary, expenses and passport dates are never uploaded.
Tools from other sectors that travellers use
- Distances and fuel. The distance calculator gives straight-line distance between places, and the fuel cost calculator estimates what a road trip will cost from distance, consumption and the local fuel price.
- Time and money. The time zone converter lines up meeting or call times across cities, and the currency converter gives you a feel for prices before you land.
- Documents. The passport photo maker crops a phone photo to the exact size each country requires for passports and visas and lays several on one printable sheet.
Travel planning tips
- Schengen days count the day you arrive and the day you leave, and the 180-day window rolls forward every day. Enter every past visit, not just the long ones.
- For a layover, allow more time when you change terminals, need a visa check or arrive on a separate ticket, since a missed connection on separate bookings is your problem, not the airline’s.
- Jet lag is easier to manage flying west than east. Start shifting bedtime by an hour a day two or three days before an eastward flight, as the planner suggests.
- Great-circle distance is the shortest path, but real flights add 5 to 10 percent for routing, winds and airspace, which the route map reflects in its time estimate.
- Keep the expense splitter open in a shared browser tab or export the CSV at the end of the trip so everyone sees the same figures.
Travel & Maps: frequently asked questions
How does the Schengen 90/180 rule work?
On any day, look back 180 days: your total days inside the Schengen area in that window must not exceed 90. The calculator does this for every day of a planned trip and shows the first date a stay would break the rule.
Can the budget splitter handle several currencies?
Yes. Enter each expense in the currency you paid in, set the rates you want to use, and the settlement is shown in one home currency with the minimum number of transfers.
Do the maps need an internet connection?
The route map draws its base map from freely available map tiles, so it needs a connection to display them, but the distance, bearing and coordinate calculations are done in your browser and work offline.
Where does the airport and country data come from?
From public datasets of IATA airport codes and country facts bundled with the page. They are updated with the site, and each lookup page shows the date its data was last refreshed.
Is my travel information stored anywhere?
No. Expenses, passport dates and routes stay in your browser’s local storage on your own device, and you can clear them from the page at any time.
