Rules for your countries (EU list as of 8 June 2026)

  • France: €65 a day with a hotel booking, €32.50 with a host’s attestation d’accueil, €120 without proof of accommodation. With a hotel for part of the stay, count €65 for those days and €120 for the rest. Travel medical insurance is also required.

These are the minimum amounts national authorities have notified to the European Commission. Consulates judge the whole application — bank statements, income, sponsor letters and travel insurance — and may ask for more. This is a planning aid, not legal or immigration advice.

How much bank balance do you need for a Schengen visa?

Every Schengen country asks visitors to prove they can pay for their stay, and most publish a minimum amount per day. This Schengen visa bank balance calculator uses the official list of those reference amounts — the one the European Commission publishes from what each country notifies — and multiplies them by your days and the number of people travelling. Add every country on your itinerary, choose how you will stay, and see the total in euros and in rupees, dollars, pounds or your own currency.

Rules differ a lot: France asks €120 a day if you have no accommodation booked but only €32.50 if a host invites you, Spain wants at least €1,098.90 per person even for a weekend, and Austria or Cyprus set no figure at all. The calculator shows how each amount is worked out, the national rule in plain words, and a table of all 29 countries for the same trip length. The calculation runs in your browser.

How to use the Schengen Visa Bank Balance Calculator

  1. Choose the Schengen country and the number of days you will spend there. Press Add another country for a multi-country trip.
  2. Enter the number of adults and children, and how you will stay: hotel or rental booked, with a host who invites you, or not booked yet.
  3. Tick Package tour or board and lodging prepaid or Student if they apply — some countries lower the amount.
  4. Pick the currency your bank statement is in. The euro rate is filled in from the European Central Bank; type your own if you like.
  5. Read the total and the per-country rules, and press Copy the result to keep it with your visa checklist.

Schengen visa bank balance for Indian applicants

For a 10-day trip to France with a hotel booked, the reference amount is 10 × €65 = €650, about ₹69,000 at the ECB rate of 23 October 2026. Consulates and visa centres in India generally ask for bank statements for the last three to six months, salary slips or income tax returns, and a covering letter; a steady balance with regular income usually carries more weight than a large deposit made just before applying. A sponsor (parent, spouse or employer) can support the application with their own statements and a sponsorship letter. Accepted proofs other than a bank balance include credit cards with their statement, traveller’s cheques, prepaid tour vouchers and a host’s formal guarantee — the national rules in the table say which.

Romania lists India among the countries under its invitation procedure, where the inviting person makes €30 a day available. Each consulate publishes its own checklist; use the calculator for the minimum and the consulate’s checklist for the documents. To count the days on your visa, use the Schengen 90/180 calculator, and plan the rest of the money with the travel budget planner.

What the calculator does not cover

  • It shows the minimum notified to the EU. A consulate can refuse a visa for weak finances even above it, or accept less with strong evidence.
  • Return tickets, travel medical insurance (at least €30,000 cover) and the visa fee are extra.
  • Canada, the UK and the US use different “proof of funds” rules — for study permits see the study abroad cost calculator.
  • Rules change: the list is updated whenever a country notifies a new amount. Check the date on this page and the consulate’s website before you apply.

Schengen Visa Bank Balance Calculator FAQ

How much bank balance is required for a Schengen visa from India?

There is no single figure: it is the daily amount of the country you visit times your days. For example €650 (about ₹69,000) for 10 days in France with a hotel, €450 for 10 days in Germany, or at least €1,098.90 per person for Spain.

How do I calculate proof of funds for a Schengen visa?

Multiply the country’s daily reference amount by your days there and by the number of travellers, apply any minimum (Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Iceland) and add each country on your route. This calculator does exactly that.

Does the bank balance have to be in euros?

No. Statements in rupees, dollars or any currency are fine; the consulate converts them. The calculator shows the equivalent at the rate you choose.

Do children need their own funds?

Usually the parents show money for the whole family. Greece, the Czech Republic and Slovenia set half the adult amount for minors, Lithuania none for a minor with an adult family member, and Spain the full amount per person.

Can someone else’s bank account be used?

Yes, with a sponsorship letter and their statements, or a host’s formal letter of guarantee where the country recognises one (for example Belgium, Croatia, Switzerland and Latvia).

Is this legal advice?

No. It is a calculation from the official reference amounts; the consulate decides each application.
