Merge PDF files into one document in seconds
Need to send one tidy file instead of five attachments? The Merge PDF tool combines two or more PDF files into a single document. Add your files, put them in the right order and press Merge — you get one merged.pdf containing every page, ready to email, upload to a portal or print.
It is the quickest way to join a scanned ID with an application form, put an invoice and its receipts together, assemble chapters of a report, or bundle certificates and mark sheets for a college or job application. Each file keeps its own page sizes and orientation, so A4, US Letter and landscape pages can sit side by side in the merged result.
Unlike most online PDF mergers, nothing is uploaded. The files are read and combined by your own browser using the open-source pdf-lib engine, so contracts, bank statements and medical records never leave your computer or phone.
How to merge PDF files
- Drop your PDFs onto the upload area, or click it to choose files. You can select several at once and add more later.
- Check the list: every file shows its page count and size, and the total is shown at the top.
- Put the files in order with the up and down arrows, drag rows on a computer, or press “Sort by name”. Remove a file with the × button.
- Press “Merge PDFs” and wait a moment while the pages are combined.
- Press “Download merged.pdf” to save the combined document.
Merge PDF features
Any number of files
Merge two files or twenty. Files are added to the end of the list, so you can keep adding as you find them.
Easy reordering
Arrow buttons work everywhere, including on phones; on a computer you can also drag rows into place. “Sort by name” orders numbered files such as scan-1, scan-2 … scan-10 naturally.
Pages stay exactly as they are
Pages are copied, not re-rendered: text stays sharp and selectable, and images keep their original quality.
Mixed page sizes
A4, Letter, Legal and landscape pages are kept at their own size and orientation in the merged file.
Clear errors
Password-protected or damaged files are flagged with a plain explanation instead of failing silently.
Private by design
Your PDFs are merged in the browser and never sent to a server, which makes it safe for confidential paperwork.
What is kept — and what is not — when PDFs are merged
Merging copies each page object, with its text, fonts, images, vector drawings and annotations, into a brand-new document. Because nothing is converted to an image, the merged file usually weighs about the same as the input files added together, and text stays searchable.
Document-level extras belong to the original files rather than to individual pages, so they are not carried over: the bookmark (outline) panel, document-wide JavaScript and fillable form logic. Links to websites keep working, but a link that jumped to another page inside one of the source files may stop working. If you rely on bookmarks, add them again in your PDF reader after merging.
Tips for a clean merged PDF
- Name scans with numbers — scan-01, scan-02 and so on — then press “Sort by name” to get the right order in one click.
- Too big to email? Many mail services cap attachments at around 20–25 MB. Run the merged file through Compress PDF, especially when it contains scans or photos.
- Only need some pages? Merge first, then remove the extras with Delete PDF Pages or rearrange them page by page with Organize PDF.
- Photos instead of PDFs? Turn phone pictures of documents into a PDF with JPG to PDF, then merge them with your other files.
- Long bundles are easier to navigate with numbers on every page — add them afterwards with Add Page Numbers.
Merging PDFs on a phone
The merger works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on Android and iPhone. Tap the upload area and choose files from your Files app, Google Drive or Downloads. Use the arrow buttons to set the order, merge, then save the result; on iPhone you can choose “Save to Files” or share it straight to Mail or WhatsApp.
Very large merges (hundreds of pages or files over 100 MB in total) need plenty of memory. If a phone struggles, merge in smaller groups and then merge those results together.
Merge PDF FAQ
How do I merge PDF files for free?
Add your PDFs to the tool above, arrange them in order and press “Merge PDFs”. The combined file downloads as merged.pdf. There is no fee, no account and no watermark.
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs here?
Yes. The files are combined inside your browser and are never uploaded, so no copy is stored on any server. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded the PDF engine.
How do I change the order of the files?
Use the up and down arrows on each row, drag rows on a computer, or press “Sort by name”. The file at the top of the list becomes the first pages of the merged PDF.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not directly — encrypted files cannot be read until the protection is removed. Open the file in your PDF reader, enter the password and use Print → Save as PDF to create an unprotected copy, then merge that.
Will merging reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. Pages are copied exactly as they are, so text, vector graphics and images look identical to the originals.
Is there a limit on the number of files or pages?
There is no fixed limit. The practical limit is your device’s memory: a laptop can usually merge several hundred pages comfortably, while older phones are happier with smaller batches.
Why are my bookmarks missing after merging?
Bookmarks are stored for the whole document rather than on its pages, so they are not copied into the new file. The pages themselves, including web links and comments, are kept.
