Is the annual toll pass worth it?

This toll annual pass savings calculator compares paying toll at every national-highway fee plaza with buying the one-time annual pass for private cars. Enter how many plazas you cross in a year and the average toll you pay at each, and it shows the yearly cost both ways, the saving or loss, and the break-even number of crossings. A helper turns trips per week into yearly crossings.

The pass is sold under the national highway authority’s annual-pass scheme and is linked to your existing toll tag. This page calls it the “toll tag annual pass” and is not affiliated with any scheme. The key question is simply arithmetic: a fixed fee buys up to 200 crossings, so the pass costs about ₹15 per crossing if you use all of them.

How to use the Toll Annual Pass Savings Calculator

  1. Enter the number of fee plazas you cross in a year. Count each plaza and each direction separately; use the weekly helper if easier.
  2. Enter the average toll you pay per crossing, from your toll-tag statement.
  3. Check the pass fee and the crossing limit; they are pre-filled with the current official terms.
  4. Read the yearly saving or extra cost, the break-even crossings and the cost per crossing.
  5. Press Copy the result to keep the numbers.

According to Press Information Bureau releases on the scheme, a one-time payment gives travel on national highway and national expressway fee plazas for one year from activation or up to 200 fee-plaza crossings, whichever comes first. It applies only to private, non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans, which are checked against the vehicle database, and the pass is non-transferable. Use in a commercial vehicle leads to deactivation without notice. It covers about 1,150 plazas and does not apply to state highways and expressways, where normal toll continues to be charged. It activates within about two hours of payment through the official highway app or the authority’s website, on an existing, valid toll tag.

Fee. The pass launched on 15 August 2025 at ₹3,000 under a notification dated 17 June 2025. The National Highways Authority’s press release of 15 March 2026 revised the fee to ₹3,075 for financial year 2026–27, effective 1 April 2026. The calculator is pre-filled with ₹3,075; the revision follows the fee rules, so expect later years to change again, and edit the fee if you are buying under a different notice.

How the numbers are worked out

Pay-as-you-go = crossings × average toll × (1 − your discount). With the pass = fee + any crossings beyond the limit at the normal toll. Saving = pay-as-you-go − with the pass. Break-even = fee ÷ effective toll, rounded up. For example, 120 crossings at ₹110 cost ₹13,200 without the pass and ₹3,075 with it, saving ₹10,125. At ₹110 a crossing the pass pays for itself after 28 crossings.

The model assumes you buy one pass and do not renew when the 200 crossings run out. If you cross far more than 200 plazas a year the savings per crossing are capped, so compare with other options such as local monthly passes at specific plazas, which this page does not model. For a full trip budget use the cost per km calculator and the multi-stop route planner.

Toll Annual Pass Savings Calculator FAQ

How much is the annual toll pass?

It was ₹3,000 from 15 August 2025 and the national highway authority announced ₹3,075 from 1 April 2026 for 2026–27. It covers up to 200 plaza crossings or one year.

Does the pass work on state highways?

No. It is valid only at national highway and national expressway fee plazas. State highway plazas charge normal toll.

Which vehicles can buy it?

Private, non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans with a valid toll tag. Commercial vehicles are not eligible.

Does a round trip count as two crossings?

Each fee-plaza crossing counts once, so passing the same plaza in both directions counts twice. Check the official terms for how a return trip is treated.

What happens after 200 crossings?

The pass ends at 200 crossings or one year, whichever is first. This calculator charges any extra crossings at the normal toll.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is arithmetic on figures you enter and the published terms. Check the official notice before buying.
