Create a fillable PDF form in your browser
Got a PDF form that people have to print, fill in by hand and scan back? The Create PDF Form tool turns it into a fillable PDF. Draw text boxes, multi-line comment areas, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdown lists, date fields and signature boxes exactly where they belong, then download a form anyone can complete on a computer or phone.
It works for registration and admission forms, job applications, client intake sheets, order forms, surveys, leave requests and contracts. You can also start from a blank A4 or US Letter page to build a simple form from scratch.
The fields are standard PDF form fields (AcroForm), so they work in Adobe Acrobat Reader, the browsers’ built-in PDF viewers, macOS Preview and most mobile apps. Everything happens in your browser — the document is never uploaded.
How to make a PDF fillable
- Drop your PDF onto the upload area, or choose a page size and press Start with a blank page.
- Pick a field type — Text, Multi-line, Checkbox, Radio, Dropdown, Date or Signature.
- Drag on the page where the field should go. Move it by dragging, resize it from the corner, and use the arrows to reach other pages.
- In the field settings, give each field a clear name and set options such as Required, default value, choices, date format and font size.
- Press Create fillable PDF and share yourfile-fillable.pdf.
Create PDF Form features
Seven field types
Single-line and multi-line text, checkboxes, radio button groups, dropdown lists, date fields and digital-signature boxes.
Draw where you need it
Drag to draw each field over the printed lines or boxes of your form, then move and resize it precisely — with a mouse or a finger.
Field options
Required fields, default values, dropdown choices, ticked-by-default checkboxes, font size or auto-fit, and a choice of field style.
Proper date and signature fields
Date fields carry Acrobat’s standard date format (dd/mm/yyyy, mm/dd/yyyy and more); signature boxes are real unsigned signature fields that Acrobat Reader can sign.
Rotated and existing pages
Fields land exactly where you draw them, even on landscape or rotated pages, and any fields already in the PDF are kept.
Private
Your document is edited in your browser and never uploaded.
Which field type should I use?
| Field | Best for | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Names, phone numbers, short answers | Draw it the height of one line of text |
| Multi-line | Addresses, comments, descriptions | Text wraps inside the box |
| Checkbox | Yes/no and “tick all that apply” | Each checkbox is its own field |
| Radio | One answer from a few options | Buttons with the same group name form one question |
| Dropdown | One answer from a long list | Type the choices separated by commas |
| Date | Date of birth, start date | Acrobat Reader checks the format as people type |
| Signature | Places where someone signs | Can be signed digitally in Acrobat Reader |
Tips for a form people can fill without help
- Use descriptive field names such as
applicant_nameor “Date of birth” — they appear as tooltips and in exported form data. - Mark only truly essential fields as Required. Acrobat Reader warns when a required field is empty.
- For radio buttons, give every button in a question the same group name and a distinct value (for example S, M, L).
- The standard form font supports Latin text. People filling the form can still type other scripts in most readers, but default values must use Latin characters.
- Test the finished form with Fill PDF Form. To have it signed by hand instead, use Sign PDF, and lock it with Protect PDF if needed.
Good to know
Date checking and other form scripts run in Adobe Acrobat Reader; browser viewers and simpler apps treat a date field like a normal text box. Signature fields need a reader with digital signing, such as Acrobat Reader; elsewhere they appear as an empty box. If your PDF was built as an XFA form (Adobe LiveCycle or AEM Designer), the XFA data is removed so that the new standard fields show up in every viewer.
Create PDF Form FAQ
How do I make a PDF fillable for free?
Open the PDF in Create PDF Form, choose a field type, drag on the page to place each field, name it, and press “Create fillable PDF”. There is no sign-up or watermark.
Can I create a fillable form from scratch?
Yes. Press “Start with a blank page” (A4 or US Letter) and draw your fields. To add printed text first, create the page with Text to PDF and then add the fields here.
Will the fillable PDF work on phones?
Yes. The fields are standard AcroForm fields that work in Acrobat Reader for Android and iOS, browser PDF viewers and most mobile PDF apps.
How do I add a signature field to a PDF?
Choose “Signature” and draw a box where the signature belongs. It becomes a real unsigned signature field that can be signed digitally in Adobe Acrobat Reader; elsewhere it shows as an empty box.
How do radio buttons work?
Each radio button belongs to a group. Buttons in the same group act as one question, so only one can be selected. Set the group name and each button’s value in the field settings.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Fields are created by JavaScript in your browser and the PDF never leaves your device.
