Convert text to PDF with proper formatting
The Text to PDF converter turns plain text into a clean, printable PDF. Paste notes, a letter, a poem, a log file or code, or open a .txt file, choose a font and layout, and download a properly paginated document with word-wrapped lines, comfortable margins and optional page numbers.
It is handy when a website or office asks for a PDF but all you have is text: a statement of purpose, a leave application, meeting minutes, song lyrics, or the output of a program. Unlike printing to PDF from a browser, you control the exact font, size, spacing and paper size, and long lines never run off the edge of the page.
Everything is created inside your browser. Your text is never uploaded or stored, and you can use the tool offline once the page has loaded.
How to use the Text to PDF
- Type or paste your text into the box, or press “Open .txt file” (you can also drop a text file onto the box).
- Choose the font, font size and line spacing. Courier keeps columns aligned for code and tables.
- Pick A4 or US Letter, portrait or landscape, and the margin width.
- Optionally add a title for the top of page 1, change the file name and turn page numbers on or off. The page count updates as you type.
- Press “Create PDF” to download your document.
Text to PDF features
Real word-wrapping
Lines are measured with the exact width of every character in the chosen font, so text fills the line neatly and never crosses the margin. Over-long words and URLs are broken safely.
Automatic pages
Text flows onto as many pages as needed. A form-feed character in your file forces a new page, just as on a printer.
Three classic fonts
Helvetica, Times and Courier are built into every PDF reader, so the file stays tiny and looks the same everywhere.
Title and page numbers
Add a bold heading to page 1 and “Page X of Y” at the bottom of every page. The title is also saved as the PDF’s document title.
Works with every language
Hindi, Tamil, Chinese, Arabic, emoji and other characters outside the standard PDF fonts are rendered with your device’s fonts as high-resolution page images.
Tabs and indentation kept
Tabs become spaces at 4-character stops and leading spaces are preserved, so indented text and simple tables survive.
Choosing font size, spacing and margins
A typical letter or report uses 11–12 pt text with 1.15–1.5 line spacing and 25 mm (1 inch) margins, which fits roughly 45–55 lines per A4 page. Some guidance:
| Document | Font | Size | Line spacing | Margins |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Letter, application or notice | Times or Helvetica | 12 pt | 1.15–1.4 | Normal |
| Assignment needing double spacing | Times | 12 pt | 2.0 | Normal |
| Code, logs, plain-text tables | Courier | 9–10 pt | 1.15 | Narrow |
| Large-print handout | Helvetica | 16–18 pt | 1.5 | Normal |
About fonts and special characters
PDF readers have 14 standard fonts built in. Using them keeps the PDF small and the text selectable, but they only include Western European characters — the “WinAnsi” character set with accented letters such as é, ñ and ü, curly quotes, dashes, € and £. The rupee sign ₹ and non-Latin scripts are not part of that set.
When your text contains characters outside it, this tool switches automatically to drawing each page as a crisp image using your device’s own fonts, and tells you so. The pages look exactly as typed, but the text cannot be selected or searched. A few look-alike symbols, such as the minus sign and arrows, are swapped for plain equivalents so ordinary text stays selectable.
Need to go the other way? PDF to Text extracts the text from a PDF. To combine your new document with others, use Merge PDF, and to draft text first, try the Online Notepad.
Text to PDF FAQ
How do I convert a text file to PDF?
Press “Open .txt file” and choose your file, or paste the text into the box. Adjust the font and layout if you like, then press “Create PDF”. The PDF downloads immediately.
Is this text to PDF converter free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on length.
Will long lines be cut off?
No. Every line is word-wrapped to fit between the margins, and words longer than a whole line are split across lines.
Can I write Hindi, Chinese or emoji in the PDF?
Yes. Those characters aren’t in the standard PDF fonts, so the pages are drawn as high-resolution images with your device’s fonts. The result looks right but the text isn’t selectable.
Can I copy text out of the PDF later?
Yes, for text using Latin-alphabet characters. It is stored as real text in a standard font, so it can be selected, searched and copied.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The PDF is generated by JavaScript in your browser, and your text never leaves your device.
