Convert PDF pages to lightweight WebP images
The PDF to WebP converter saves the pages of a PDF as WebP images — the compact format Google designed for the web. Pick a resolution and a quality, choose which pages to convert, and download the results one by one or together in a ZIP file.
WebP is the natural choice when a PDF page is going onto a website: a brochure page on a product listing, a slide in a blog post, a menu on a restaurant site, a certificate on a portfolio, or a page preview next to a “Download PDF” link. Smaller images load faster, use less mobile data and help pages pass Core Web Vitals checks such as Largest Contentful Paint.
The conversion happens in your browser using pdf.js and the browser’s own WebP encoder. The PDF is not uploaded anywhere, which keeps unpublished drafts and client documents private.
How to convert a PDF to WebP
- Drop a PDF onto the box above, or click it to choose one.
- Select a resolution. 150 DPI is a good default for web pages; use 72 DPI for thumbnails or 300 DPI if visitors need to zoom in.
- Move the quality slider. 80–90% keeps small text clean; 60–70% gives much smaller files for photo-heavy pages.
- Enter the pages to convert (for example
1, 4-6) or leave the box empty for every page. - Press “Convert to WebP”, check the thumbnails, then download single pages or “Download all (ZIP)”.
PDF to WebP features
Adjustable quality
A 10–100% slider controls the WebP encoder, so you decide how much detail to trade for file size.
Web-friendly resolutions
Presets for thumbnails, normal web pages and zoomable images, plus any custom DPI from 36 to 600.
Honest Safari fallback
Safari cannot create WebP files from a web page. The tool detects this and saves lossless PNGs instead, and tells you so rather than mislabelling the files.
Page selection
Convert just the cover, one chart or a range of pages instead of the whole document.
Batch download
All images are packed into one ZIP named after your PDF, numbered by page.
Why WebP for PDF pages on a website?
Browsers cannot show a PDF page inline in an <img> tag, so sites usually publish a picture of the page instead. WebP produces noticeably smaller files than JPG at similar visual quality, and unlike JPG it supports transparency. Every current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can display WebP, as can WordPress (since version 5.8), Shopify and most other site builders.
For best results, export at roughly the width the image will be shown at. A page displayed 800 pixels wide on a desktop layout does not need 300 DPI; 150 DPI gives an A4 page about 1240 pixels wide, which also looks sharp on high-density phone screens.
Choosing a quality setting
| Quality | What it looks like | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 90–100% | Indistinguishable from the original, even small print | Pages people will read in full: forms, menus, price lists |
| 75–85% | Very slight softening around text edges when zoomed in | Most web previews and blog illustrations |
| 50–70% | Visible smoothing on fine text; photos still look fine | Thumbnails, galleries, photo-heavy brochure pages |
| Below 50% | Blurry text and blotchy flat colours | Tiny previews where size matters most |
Limits worth knowing
- The WebP format allows at most 16,383 pixels on a side. This tool caps very large pages at about 16 megapixels anyway, so posters are scaled down and the real DPI is shown under each image.
- The browser’s WebP encoder is lossy. If you need pixel-perfect pages, for example to edit them later, use PDF to PNG instead.
- Rendered pages are pictures: text in them is no longer selectable or searchable. Keep the original PDF available for people who need to copy text, or pull the words out with PDF to Text.
- Some older desktop programs and email clients still can’t open WebP. Convert copies with the Image Converter if someone needs JPG or PNG.
PDF to WebP FAQ
How do I convert a PDF to WebP?
Choose your PDF above, set the resolution and quality, then press “Convert to WebP”. Each page becomes its own .webp file, which you can download separately or as a ZIP.
Is this PDF to WebP converter free?
Yes, completely free with no account, watermark or limit on the number of pages.
Why did I get PNG files instead of WebP?
Your browser cannot encode WebP from a web page — this is the case in Safari. The tool saves lossless PNGs instead and shows a note. Open the page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox to get real WebP files.
What quality should I use for text-heavy pages?
Start at 85%. Text stays crisp and the files are still far smaller than PNG. Drop to 70% if you need smaller files and the page is mostly photos.
Can WebP images be turned back into a PDF?
Yes. WebP to PDF puts WebP images back into a PDF, with a choice of JPEG or lossless embedding.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Rendering and encoding run in your browser tab, so the file never leaves your device.
