Add Footer to PDF

Put page numbers, a file name, copyright or confidentiality line at the bottom of every PDF page.

Drop a PDF here or click to choose One PDF file · see the footer on a live preview

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Add a footer to the bottom of every PDF page

Footers carry the small print that makes a document easy to handle once it is printed, forwarded or split up: “Page 3 of 18”, the file name, a version number, a copyright line or a confidentiality notice. The Add Footer to PDF tool adds that line to the bottom of every page of an existing PDF in one pass.

Write up to three pieces of text — left, centre and right — and drop in placeholders that change on every page, such as Page {page} of {pages} or {filename}. You see the result on your real pages before saving, and you can step through them to check covers, landscape pages and the last page.

Nothing is uploaded. The footer is added inside your browser, so it is safe for legal bundles, HR letters, invoices and exam papers.

How to add a footer to a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF onto the upload area or click to choose it. The first page is shown in the preview.
  2. Type the footer text in the Left, Centre and Right boxes. Click a box and use the Insert buttons for {page}, {pages}, {date}, {filename} or {title}.
  3. Pick the font, size and colour, then set the distance from the bottom edge and the left/right margin.
  4. Optionally draw a divider line above the footer, skip the cover, choose a page range, start numbering from a different value or mirror for double-sided printing.
  5. Check the preview, press “Add footer” and download your PDF.

Add Footer to PDF features

Page X of Y in one click

The default footer already reads “Page 1 of N” on the right with the file name on the left — change either in seconds.

Placeholders that update per page

{page}, {pages}, {date}, {filename} and {title} are filled in separately on every page.

Divider line

A hairline above the footer separates it from the body text, as in printed reports and legal documents.

Flexible numbering

Start counting from any number, leave the cover unnumbered, or footer only the pages you list.

Mirrored for duplex printing

Swap left and right on even pages so page numbers stay on the outside edge of a bound booklet.

Upright on every page

Landscape and rotated pages get their footer along the bottom edge as displayed, not sideways.

Common footers and how to write them

The copyright symbol ©, the euro €, the pound £ and accented letters all work with the standard fonts. The rupee sign ₹ and non-Latin scripts are drawn as a small, sharp image instead of text.

PurposeExample footer text

Getting the spacing right

  • Distance from the bottom edge is measured to the text baseline. 24–36 pt (about 8–13 mm) suits most A4 and Letter documents and stays clear of the non-printable strip many printers leave at the edge.
  • Left and right margin controls how far the left and right texts sit from the side edges. Match the document’s own margins (often 72 pt = 1 inch, or 25 mm on A4) for a tidy look.
  • Font size of 8–10 pt keeps a footer readable but secondary. If the three texts collide, the preview shows a warning — shorten them or leave the centre empty.
  • If the PDF already has a footer or page numbers, raise the distance or use a different slot so the new text does not overlap the old.

Footer or page numbers?

If all you need is a number, Add Page Numbers is quicker and offers top or bottom positions and styles like “- 1 -”. Use this footer tool when the bottom line needs more than a number — a file name, a date, a notice or text on both sides of the page. For a matching line at the top, use Add Header to PDF.

Combining several files? Merge them first and add the footer afterwards, so “Page {page} of {pages}” counts through the whole bundle. Split it back into parts later with Split PDF if you need to.

Add Footer to PDF FAQ

How do I add a footer to a PDF?

Add the PDF, type your footer text in the left, centre or right box (for example “Page {page} of {pages}”), check the preview and press “Add footer”. Then download the new PDF.

How do I add “Page 1 of 10” to the bottom of a PDF?

Put Page {page} of {pages} in any footer box. {pages} becomes the last page number automatically, so a 10-page file reads “Page 1 of 10” to “Page 10 of 10”.

Can I add the file name to every page?

Yes. Insert {filename} into a footer box. It prints the file name without the .pdf extension on each page.

Can the footer skip the first page?

Yes. Tick “Skip the first page (cover)”. To keep the page count right, set “Number pages from” to 0 so the first inside page shows 1.

Can I remove a footer later?

The footer becomes part of each page, so keep your original file if you might want a different footer. Re-run the tool on the original to change the text.

Is it free and private?

Yes. There is no charge or sign-up, and the PDF is processed entirely in your browser without being uploaded.
