Bengali calendar with English dates, for West Bengal and Bangladesh
This free Bengali calendar gives the Bengali (Bangabda) date of any day from 1900 to 2099 — for example Kartik 7, 1433 for 24 October 2026 in West Bengal — with the month in Bengali script too, and lays out the month as a grid of English dates with the Bengali date and the tithi of each day. Tap a day for its panjika: tithi and nakshatra with end times, the lunar month, yoga, karana, sunrise, sunset and Rahu kalam.
Choose the calendar: the West Bengal (and Tripura, Assam) version follows the Sun’s entry into each sign, while Bangladesh uses the revised fixed calendar of the Bangla Academy, in which Pohela Boishakh is always 14 April. Use it as a Bengali calendar 2026 with English date, to see the Bengali date today or to convert any English date. The year’s festivals — Saraswati Puja, Dol Jatra, Pohela Boishakh, Rabindra Jayanti, Jamai Shashthi, Rath Yatra, Vishwakarma Puja, Mahalaya, every day of Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja, Bhai Phonta and Jagaddhatri Puja, and in Bangladesh Ekushey, Independence and Victory Day — come with their rules and a CSV download.

How the Bengali calendar works
In West Bengal the Bengali calendar is solar: each month begins after the Sun enters the next sidereal sign — Boishakh after Mesha, Joishtho after Vrishabha and so on to Choitro. The midnight rule fixes the first day: if the sankranti happens between sunrise and midnight, the month begins the next day; if it happens after midnight, the day after that. In 2025 the Sun entered Mesha at 03:21 on 14 April, after midnight, so Pohela Boishakh was 15 April; in 2026 it entered at 09:32 on 14 April and the new year was again 15 April. The year is the Bangabda: the Gregorian year minus 593 from Pohela Boishakh, so 1433 began on 15 April 2026.
Bangladesh replaced the astronomical month starts with a revised calendar. Under the Bangla Academy’s 2019 revision the first six months, Boishakh to Ashwin, have 31 days, Kartik to Magh and Choitro have 30, and Falgun has 29 days, or 30 in a Gregorian leap year. Every month therefore begins on the same English date each year, and national days keep their Bengali dates: 21 February is 8 Falgun, 26 March 12 Choitro and 16 December 1 Poush. Religious dates on both sides follow the lunar tithi, computed here with the Lahiri ayanamsa as in the Hindu calendar converter.
| Month | Bengali | West Bengal 2026 | Bangladesh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boishakh | বৈশাখ | 15 April | 14 April |
| Srabon | শ্রাবণ | 17 July | 16 July |
| Ashwin | আশ্বিন | 18 September | 16 September |
| Kartik | কার্তিক | 18 October | 17 October |
| Poush | পৌষ | 17 December | 16 December |
Panjika traditions, festival rules and limits
Bengal has two almanac schools. The Vishuddha Siddhanta Panjika, followed by Belur Math, uses modern astronomy, as this page does; the Gupta Press and P. M. Bagchi panjikas keep the Surya Siddhanta, whose sankranti and tithi times can be hours apart, so a puja or month start occasionally differs by a day. Here the pujas take the tithi current at local sunrise (Shashthi is the day before Saptami), Lakshmi and Kali Puja the tithi at midnight, and Mahalaya the Amavasya in the afternoon. For 2025 to 2027 the dates match the West Bengal government holiday list for 2026 and Drik Panchang’s Bengali calendars, apart from the cases under “Where almanacs differ” (checked 25 October 2026).
Puja committees and family priests follow their own panjika, so check locally for anjali and sandhi puja times. Rahu kalam is shown for tradition, not advice. To type Bengali names, try Bengali typing; for the neighbouring solar calendar of Odisha see the Odia calendar.
