Nepali date converter: AD to BS and BS to AD

This free Nepali date converter turns an English (AD) date into the Nepali Bikram Sambat (BS) date and a BS date back into AD. Type in either box and the other follows, with the Nepali date in Devanagari digits (२०८३ कार्तिक २ गते), the weekday in Nepali and English, a month calendar and the start date of every month of that BS year.

It also works as a Nepali date converter for age: set the “Age on” date and it shows how old someone born on the converted date is in BS years, months and days and in AD years — handy for forms that ask for a date of birth in BS. It covers 1970 to 2090 BS (13 April 1913 to 13 April 2034).

How to use the Nepali Date Converter

  1. To convert AD to BS, pick a date in English date (AD), or press Today for today’s Nepali date.
  2. To convert BS to AD, enter the Year (BS), choose the Month and type the Day.
  3. Read the result, the Nepali digits and the month grid; Saturdays, the weekly holiday in Nepal, are shown in red.
  4. For an age, change Age on (today by default) and read the age line.
  5. Press Copy result to paste the conversion elsewhere.

Why Bikram Sambat needs a table

Bikram Sambat (Vikram Samvat) is the official calendar of Nepal. Its year begins on 1 Baisakh, in mid-April, and runs about 56 years and 8½ months ahead of AD: 2083 BS began on 14 April 2026. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, its months are solar months that follow the Sun’s passage through the twelve zodiac signs, so a month can have 29, 30, 31 or even 32 days, and the pattern changes from year to year. There is no simple formula: each year’s month lengths are fixed by Nepal’s calendar committee from astronomical calculation and printed in the national calendar.

This converter therefore stores the month lengths of every year from 1970 to 2090 BS. They come from the open-source bikram-sambat table (Apache-2.0, version 1.8.1, June 2026), which matches two other open tables for every year up to 2080 BS; the newer tables also agree on 2081–2083. On 19 October 2026 the result was spot-checked against a Nepali calendar site that reproduces the government calendar, for months in 2045, 2082, 2083 and 2084 BS.

Limits and tips

Future month lengths are only provisional. The open tables disagree about some months of 2084–2086 BS, so dates after mid-April 2027 may shift by a day when the official calendar appears; the page warns when you are in that range. Dates before 1970 BS are not covered. The Nepali day here is the calendar day; tithis and festivals that follow the lunar calendar are not calculated — for those see the Hindu calendar converter.

The AD year is not simply BS minus 57: from January to mid-April the difference is 56. To find an age in AD years only, the age calculator also helps, and for the Tamil solar calendar use the Tamil calendar.

Nepali Date Converter FAQ

What is the Nepali date today?

Press Today: the converter shows today’s date in Bikram Sambat with the Nepali weekday. Nepal is UTC+5:45, so near midnight its date can differ from yours.

How do I convert AD to BS?

Choose the English date in the AD box. The BS year, month and day fill in automatically.

How do I convert a BS date of birth to AD?

Type the BS year, month and day in the Nepali box; the AD date and weekday appear at once, along with the age today.

How do I calculate age from a Nepali date of birth?

Enter the BS date of birth and leave Age on as today. The age line shows years, months and days in BS, completed AD years and the total days.

Why do some Nepali months have 32 days?

Bikram Sambat months follow the Sun through the zodiac signs, and in mid-year the Sun moves more slowly, so Jestha, Asar or Shrawan can have 32 days.

How far ahead is the Nepali calendar accurate?

The published calendar is used up to 2083 BS (to 13 April 2027). Later years come from open tables and are marked provisional.
