Tithi birthday in 2026: Shravana Shukla Purnima

  • Friday, 28 August 2026 · VS 2083 · tithi 27 Aug 2026 09:09 → 28 Aug 2026 09:48

The date falls in an adhika month. Most families keep the tithi birthday in the regular (nija) Shravana, as listed here.

Sun and Moon from Meeus’ algorithms with ΔT, sidereal Sun with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa; new moons and tithi ends found to the second, sunrise with the upper limb and standard refraction. Checked against Drik Panchang for New Delhi on seven dates in 2023–2026, including Adhika Shravana 2023 and Adhika Jyeshtha 2026 (October 2026).

The Hindu calendar is a living tradition and regional almanacs can differ by a day. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice; check a local panchang for festival and ritual dates. Everything is computed in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Hindu calendar converter: Gregorian date to tithi, month and samvat

This free Hindu calendar converter turns any Gregorian date from 1800 to 2099 into its Hindu (Vikram Samvat) date: the tithi and paksha in force at sunrise with its end time, the lunar month in both the amanta and purnimanta systems, adhik maas when it occurs, the Vikram, Shaka and Gujarati samvat years with their samvatsara names, and the vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana of the day. It also converts back, from a Hindu date such as “VS 2080 Shravana Shukla Purnima” to the Gregorian date.

If you are looking for a date of birth tithi calculator, enter the birth date and, if you know it, the birth time. The tool shows the janma tithi at the moment of birth and lists the date on which the same tithi falls in any year — the “tithi birthday” many families celebrate. Like any panchang, it is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.

How to use the Hindu Calendar Converter

  1. Keep Gregorian → Hindu selected and pick the Date. Add the Birth time if you want the tithi at the moment of birth.
  2. Choose the Place: sunrise depends on the location, and the Hindu day starts at sunrise. The Time zone fills in from the city.
  3. Read the tithi, month and samvat in the panel. The details list gives both month systems, all three eras, the vara, nakshatra, yoga, karana, sunrise and sunset.
  4. Enter a year in Tithi birthday in year to see when your birth tithi falls that year.
  5. For the reverse, switch to Hindu → Gregorian, choose the era, year, month, paksha, tithi and month system, and tick Adhika for the extra month.

Hindu Calendar Converter features

Computed, not looked up

New moons, sankrantis and tithi ends are calculated from the Sun and Moon positions for every date, so any year from 1800 to 2099 works the same way.

Amanta and purnimanta

South and West India end the month at the new moon, North India at the full moon; both names are shown, and the reverse converter accepts either.

Adhik maas and kshaya

A lunar month without a sankranti is flagged as adhika, as in Shravana 2023 and Jyeshtha 2026; the rare month with two sankrantis is flagged too.

Three eras

Vikram Samvat from Chaitra, Shaka Samvat, and the Gujarati Kartikadi Vikram Samvat that begins the day after Diwali, with the samvatsara names.

Day-by-day month

Every day of the lunar month with its sunrise tithi, marking repeated (vriddhi) and skipped (kshaya) tithis.

How the conversion works

A tithi is the time the Moon takes to gain 12° on the Sun, so there are 30 in a lunar month: Shukla Pratipada to Purnima while the Moon waxes, then Krishna Pratipada to Amavasya. A tithi lasts about 19 to 26 hours, so one can cover two sunrises (vriddhi) and another none (kshaya). A Hindu date is named by the tithi in force at local sunrise.

The month is set by the Sun. An amanta month runs from one new moon to the next and takes its name from the sidereal sign the Sun occupies at the new moon that starts it — Sun in Meena gives Chaitra, Sun in Mesha gives Vaishakha, and so on. If the Sun enters no new sign during the month, the month is adhika and repeats the next month’s name. In the purnimanta system each Krishna paksha belongs to the following month, so Ashadha Krishna in the amanta calendar is Shravana Krishna in the north. The year starts on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada: Shaka Samvat equals the Gregorian year minus 78, and Vikram Samvat equals Shaka plus 135, so 2026–27 is VS 2083 and Shaka 1948.

Worked example: on 1 August 2023 the sunrise in New Delhi was at 05:42 and the Moon was more than 168° ahead of the Sun — Shukla Purnima, lasting until 00:01. The month began with the new moon of 17 July with the Sun already in sidereal Karka, and the next new moon on 16 August came before the Sun reached Simha, so the month was Adhika Shravana of VS 2080.

Hindu months and the Sun’s sign

Each amanta month is named from the sidereal sign the Sun is in when the month begins.

Limits worth knowing

Tithi ends are typically within one or two minutes of published panchangs, but a tithi ending within minutes of sunrise can land on a different day in another almanac, and some regional calendars use other ayanamsas. Festivals follow their own rules (moonrise, midnight or afternoon tithi); this tool gives the plain sunrise tithi. For the birth star use the nakshatra finder; for the whole chart the kundli generator; for the Moon’s shape the moon phase calculator.

Hindu Calendar Converter FAQ

Date of birth se tithi kaise nikale?

Enter the date of birth above, add the birth time and choose the birthplace. The tool shows the janma tithi (जन्म तिथि) with its paksha and Hindu month, and the date on which that tithi falls in any year you choose.

How do I convert a Gregorian date to the Hindu calendar?

Pick the date and the place in the Hindu calendar converter. You get the tithi at sunrise, the amanta and purnimanta month, adhik maas if any, and the Vikram and Shaka samvat years.

Why is my tithi different from the one on the calendar?

Calendars name a date by the tithi at sunrise, while the birth tithi is the one at the moment of birth. If the tithi changed between sunrise and the birth time, the two differ; the tool shows both.

What is adhik maas?

An extra lunar month inserted about every 32 months, when no sankranti falls between two new moons. It keeps the lunar months in step with the seasons. 2023 had Adhika Shravana and 2026 has Adhika Jyeshtha.

What is the difference between amanta and purnimanta?

Amanta months end at the new moon (used in Maharashtra, Gujarat and the south); purnimanta months end at the full moon (used in the north). Shukla paksha has the same month name in both; Krishna paksha is named after the next month in purnimanta.

Is this Hindu calendar converter free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and every calculation runs in your browser.
