A free tarot card reading with yes or no, three-card and Celtic cross spreads
This free tarot card reading shuffles a complete 78-card deck — the 22 major arcana and the four suits of wands, cups, swords and pentacles — and deals the spread you choose: a single card for tarot yes or no, one card for the moment, a three-card spread such as past, present and future, or the ten-card Celtic cross. Cards are dealt face down; tap each one to turn it over, with reversed cards switched on or off as you prefer.
Every card has upright and reversed keywords and a short prompt for reflection, written for this page. The deck is shuffled fairly with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, and each reading gets a code you can type in later to repeat exactly the same draw. Tarot is offered here for entertainment and reflection only: the cards do not predict events, and nothing here is advice.
How to use the Tarot Card Reading
- Choose a spread: Yes / no, One card, Three cards or Celtic cross. For three cards, pick the positions you want.
- Optionally type Your question — it stays in your browser and goes into the copied reading.
- Leave Include reversed cards on for upside-down cards, or switch it off.
- Press Shuffle and draw, then tap each card to turn it over, or press Turn all cards over.
- Read the meanings under the cards and use Copy reading to keep them. Type the reading code to repeat a draw.

How tarot yes or no works on this page
There is no single rule for reading a card as yes or no, so this page states its own convention. Each card has a leaning — yes, maybe or no — based on its usual upright meaning: hopeful cards such as the Sun, the Star and the Ace of Cups lean yes; demanding ones such as the Tower, the Ten of Swords and Five of Cups lean no; reflective or two-sided cards such as the Hermit, Justice and Two of Swords lean maybe. A reversed card is softened one step: a yes becomes a maybe and a maybe becomes a no. The full yes/no cards list is in the table under the tool.
If you only want a plain 50/50 answer without any card symbolism, the yes or no generator or a coin flip is the simpler choice.
| Leaning | Major arcana cards |
|---|---|
| Yes | The Fool, The Magician, The Empress, The Emperor, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, Wheel of Fortune, Temperance, The Star, The Sun, Judgement, The World |
| Maybe | The High Priestess, The Hierophant, The Hermit, Justice, The Hanged Man |
| No | Death, The Devil, The Tower, The Moon |
The deck and the spreads
The deck follows the structure of the Rider–Waite–Smith tarot first published in 1909: twenty-two numbered major arcana from the Fool (0) to the World (XXI), and four suits of fourteen cards from Ace to Ten plus Page, Knight, Queen and King. Wands relate to energy and ambition, cups to feelings and relationships, swords to thoughts and conflict, and pentacles to money, work and practical life. The card faces are simple emblems drawn for this page rather than reproductions of any published deck.
In the Celtic cross, card 1 is the present, card 2 lies across it as the challenge, 3 is the foundation, 4 the recent past, 5 what could be, 6 the near future, and the column on the right reads upward: yourself, your surroundings, hopes and fears, and the outcome.
How the shuffle works
When the reading code is empty, ten random bytes from crypto.getRandomValues become a code such as k7qm-2xpa-9d. The code is hashed into the seed of a small pseudo-random generator, which shuffles all 78 cards with the Fisher–Yates method — every order of the deck is equally likely — and then decides, card by card, whether each lands reversed. Typing the same code with the same settings replays the same reading, which is handy for sharing a draw or coming back to it.
Tarot Card Reading FAQ
Is this tarot card reading free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How do I get a tarot yes or no answer?
Choose Yes / no, think of your question, press Shuffle and draw and turn the card over. The page shows whether that card leans yes, maybe or no and why.
Can I draw tarot cards with reversals?
Yes — reversals are on by default and each card has an even chance of being upside down. Switch them off if you read upright cards only.
What does a three-card tarot spread mean?
Three cards read together, most often as past, present and future. You can also choose situation–action–outcome, mind–body–spirit or a relationship layout.
Are the cards really random?
Yes. The shuffle is seeded from your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, and every order of the 78 cards is equally likely. The reading code only lets you repeat a draw.
Can tarot predict the future?
No. There is no evidence that tarot cards predict events. Use the reading as a prompt for reflection or for fun, not for decisions about health, money or relationships.
