Bengali typing from English letters
This Bengali typing tool turns English letters into Bangla as you type: write ami tomake bhalobashi and get আমি তোমাকে ভালোবাসি. Use it for Bengali typing from English on a laptop or phone without a Bangla keyboard: Facebook posts, messages, forms, poems and school work.
The keys follow the Avro Phonetic conventions that most Bangla typists in India and Bangladesh already know (o for the inherent vowel, O for ো, c for চ and ch for ছ), so muscle memory carries over. A table of common words fixes spellings the letter rules cannot know, such as ভালো, তোমাকে and ধন্যবাদ.
The tool changes the script, not the language: English words are spelled out in Bangla letters, not translated.
How to use the Bengali Typing
- Type in the left box in English letters. The Bengali text appears on the right as you type.
- When a word could be spelled several ways (স or শ, ন or ণ, ি or ী), click the right one in the strip under the box.
- Click letters in the Bengali letters palette for anything hard to type: ঞ, ৎ, ঁ or a visible hasanta.
- Choose Type in place to have each word turn into Bangla in the same box when you press space.
- Press Copy Bengali or Download .txt; the text is Unicode and works everywhere.
Bengali Typing features

Examples
| You type | Bengali | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ami bangla | আমি বাংলা | a at the start = আ, ng = ং |

| byakti | ব্যাক্তি | y after a consonant = য-ফলা |
| kothay | কথায় | y after a vowel = য় |
| bangali | বাঙালি | ng before a vowel = ঙ |
| krriShi | কৃষি | rri = ৃ, Sh = ষ |
How the Bangla keyboard works
Each group of English letters is looked up in a table, longest first, so kh is খ and not ক + হ. A consonant followed by a vowel takes the vowel's kar (ি, ী, ু, ে…); two consonants in a row are joined with a hasanta into a juktakkhor; a consonant at the end of a word keeps its inherent vowel, as Bangla spelling does. A few context rules come from Avro Phonetic: o after a consonant is silent, y and w change meaning after a consonant, and ng is ঙ before a vowel.
Rule-based typing cannot tell whether a word is written with স, শ or ষ, or with a short or long vowel, because Banglish spelling does not show it. The suggestion strip lists those swaps for the word you are typing.

Limits worth knowing
- There is no dictionary, so less common words, names and English loanwords may need a suggestion or a palette letter.
- The word table is short and covers everyday words only; switch it off to see exactly what the letters give.
- Assamese uses the same script with two extra letters (ৰ, ৱ), which this Bengali keyboard does not include.
- For Hindi use Hindi typing; for other South Indian scripts try Tamil typing or Telugu typing.
Bengali Typing FAQ
How do I type Bengali using an English keyboard?
Type the Bangla words in English letters, for example apni kemon achen, and the tool writes আপনি কেমন আছেন. Click a suggestion if a word has a different spelling.
Is this the same as Avro Phonetic?
It follows the same key conventions, so Avro users can type the way they are used to, but it is an independent web keyboard with its own word list and no install.
How do I type ং, ঁ, ৎ and ঃ?
Type ng for ং, ^ for ঁ, t`` for ৎ and : for ঃ, or click them in the palette.
How do I type য-ফলা and ব-ফলা?
Type y or w right after a consonant: byakti ব্যাক্তি, swami স্বামি.
Does it translate English to Bengali?
No. It changes the letters only. For meaning, use a translator.
