Gujarati typing from English letters
This Gujarati typing tool turns English letters into Gujarati script as you type: write kem cho? hu majama chu and get કેમ છો? હું મજામાં છું. It is made for Gujarati typing from English on any computer or phone, without installing a Gujarati keyboard, for messages, invitations, school work and social posts.
Gujarati script is built the same way as Devanagari: the Unicode standard lays out its letters in the same order, one block apart. So this keyboard reuses the site's tested Devanagari phonetic rules, moves each letter into the Gujarati block, and adds what is specific to Gujarati: no nukta, ળ from capital L, z for ઝ, the full stop, and a table of everyday Gujarati words such as છે, શું, તમારું and મજામાં.
It changes the script, not the language: English words are written out in Gujarati letters, not translated.
How to use the Gujarati Typing
- Type Gujarati in English letters in the left box. The Gujarati text appears on the right as you type.
- Check the strip under the box: it shows other spellings of the word you are typing. Click one to replace the word.
- Use the Gujarati letters palette for any letter that is hard to type, such as ઙ, ઞ or ઍ.
- Prefer typing in one box? Choose Type in place: each word turns into Gujarati when you press space.
- Press Copy Gujarati or Download .txt. The text is Unicode and pastes correctly into WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs and email.
Gujarati Typing features
Everyday words spelled right
About 90 common words are spelled the Gujarati way even when the letters are ambiguous: cho છો, shu શું, maru મારું, majama મજામાં. Switch it off to see the plain letter rules.
Anusvara and nasal sounds
n or m before a consonant becomes ં (sundar સુંદર), and the suggestion strip offers a nasal ending when a word needs one.
ળ, ણ, ઝ and conjuncts
Type L for ળ, N for ણ, z for ઝ, x or kSh for ક્ષ and GY for જ્ઞ; consonants typed together join into conjuncts (સ્ત, ન્ય).
Gujarati digits
Tick Gujarati digits to type ૧૨૩ instead of 123.
Private and offline
The rules run in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.

How Gujarati spelling is guessed
Each letter group maps to one Gujarati letter: k ક, kh ખ, ch ચ, chh છ, sh શ, Sh ષ, aa ા, ee ી, oo ૂ. A consonant before a vowel takes its vowel sign; two consonants in a row join with a halant into a conjunct. On top of that the keyboard guesses the silent a the way Gujarati is spoken: a final a becomes ા, a final i becomes ી, and a consonant pair before endings like -to, -ta, -na is written as two full letters.
Gujlish (Gujarati in English letters) has no fixed spelling, so the same word can be typed cho, chho or chhe. That is why common words come from a short table and every other word gets a strip of alternatives instead of a silent guess.
Source: the Gujarati and Devanagari code charts of the Unicode Standard, which share one layout, so each Gujarati letter sits exactly 0x180 code points after its Devanagari twin (checked 23 October 2026).
Limits worth knowing
- Rules do not know the sentence. Names, rare words and English loanwords may need a suggestion click or a palette letter.
- Gujarati final -u is often written with ં (saru સારું); the table covers common words, but other words may need the ં from the palette.
- Old Gujarati font files (such as Shruti alternatives in legacy encodings) need their own converter; this tool writes new text in Unicode.
- For Hindi or Marathi use Hindi typing or Marathi typing; to check the length of what you wrote, the word counter.
Gujarati Typing FAQ
How do I type in Gujarati with an English keyboard?
Type the Gujarati words as they sound, for example tamaru naam shu chhe, and the tool writes તમારું નામ શું છે. Pick a suggestion when a word could be spelled more than one way.
Is Gujarati typing the same as translation?
No. It changes English letters into Gujarati script; the words and language stay as you typed them. For meaning, use a translator.
How do I type છ, ળ and જ્ઞ?
Type chh for છ, L for ળ and GY for જ્ઞ. Every letter is also in the palette under the box.
Why is there no nukta in the output?
Gujarati does not use nukta letters in everyday writing, so f gives ફ and z gives ઝ rather than dotted forms.
Can I type Gujarati numbers?
Yes. Tick Gujarati digits and 2026 becomes ૨૦૨૬.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The conversion runs on your device in the browser.
