Telugu typing from English letters
This Telugu typing tool turns English letters into Telugu script as you type: write meeru ela unnaru? and get మీరు ఎలా ఉన్నారు?. Use it for English to Telugu typing on any laptop or phone without installing a Telugu keyboard, for WhatsApp, Facebook, letters, applications or homework.
Telugu is not Hindi in another font. It writes a short and a long e and o (ఎ/ఏ, ఒ/ఓ), it pronounces the final vowel of a word (అమ్మ is amma, not amm), it uses the round ం for nasal sounds before consonants, and its consonant clusters are written with small subscript forms (క్క, న్న). This keyboard uses its own Telugu table and rules for all of that.
It changes the script, not the language: English words are spelled in Telugu letters, not translated.
How to use the Telugu Typing
- Type in English letters in the left box. The Telugu text appears on the right as you type.
- If a word needs a long vowel or a different letter, click the right form in the strip under the box; it replaces the word you are typing.
- Click letters in the Telugu letters palette for anything unusual, such as ఱ, ఙ or the arasunna ఁ.
- Choose Type in place to have each word turn into Telugu in the same box when you press space.
- Press Copy Telugu or Download .txt; the text is standard Unicode.
Telugu Typing features
Short and long vowels kept apart
e ె, E or ae ే; o ొ, O or oa ో; ee ీ; oo ూ; aa ా. The suggestion strip swaps the length if you typed it the other way.
ం where Telugu writes it
n or m before a consonant becomes ం (manchi మంచి, chandra చంద్ర), and a final m becomes ం (pustakam పుస్తకం). Doubled and nasal clusters stay (amma అమ్మ, janma జన్మ).
Conjuncts automatically
Consonants typed together join with the virama into vattu forms: kk క్క, str స్త్ర, x or ksh క్ష.
Common words
About 55 everyday words with long vowels or special spellings, such as నేను, లేదు, ఏమిటి and ధన్యవాదాలు, are spelled correctly.

How Telugu spelling is built
Each group of English letters is matched against the Telugu table, longest first, so kh is ఖ and th is థ. A consonant followed by a vowel takes the vowel sign (గుణింతం: కా, కి, కీ, కు, కె, కే); a consonant followed by another consonant takes the virama and the next one is written as a vattu; a consonant at the very end of a word keeps a visible virama (hyderabad హైదరాబాద్), except m, which becomes ం.
Telugu chat spelling rarely marks long vowels, so nenu could mean నెను or నేను and pandu could be పందు or పండు. Common words come from a table; for everything else the suggestion strip shows the long vowel and retroflex alternatives.

Limits worth knowing
- There is no dictionary, so the tool cannot always tell dental from retroflex letters (త/ట, ద/డ, న/ణ, ల/ళ) or short from long vowels. Pick from the suggestions.
- English names ending in m (Ram) become ం by the final-m rule; pick మ్ from the suggestions for a name.
- Old Telugu font files (Anu, Shree-Lipi) are not Unicode and need their own converter.
- For Tamil or Hindi use Tamil typing or Hindi typing; to count words afterwards, the word counter.
Telugu Typing FAQ
How do I type Telugu with an English keyboard?
Type the Telugu words as they sound, for example idi naa illu, and the tool writes ఇది నా ఇల్లు. Use the suggestions for long vowels and retroflex letters.
How do I type ే and ో (long e and o)?
Type a capital E or O, or ae and oa: pETa పేట, kOTa కోట. Lower-case e and o give the short ె and ొ.
How do I type ం (sunna)?
n or m before a consonant and a final m become ం automatically. Type M to add one anywhere, or click it in the palette.
Is this English to Telugu translation?
No. The letters change, not the language. Use a translator for meaning.
Will Telugu text show on every phone?
Yes. The output is Unicode Telugu, which modern phones, browsers and office programs display.
Is my text private?
Yes. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
