How the two columns are worked out
  • Mool Nanakshahi: the calendar of Pal Singh Purewal adopted in 2003. It follows the tropical year, so each month begins on the same Gregorian date every year (Chet 14 March, Vaisakh 14 April, Jeth 15 May, Harh 15 June, Sawan 16 July, Bhadon 16 August, Assu 15 September, Kattak 15 October, Maghar 14 November, Poh 14 December, Magh 13 January, Phagan 12 February), and every gurpurab keeps its date.
  • SGPC: the calendar as amended in 2010 and published by the SGPC. Months follow the sidereal (Bikrami) solar year: the sangrand is the day, counted from sunrise to sunrise, on which the Sun enters the next sidereal sign at Amritsar (Lahiri ayanamsa). Most gurpurabs follow the lunar date — the tithi at sunrise in a lunar month — so they move by up to about three weeks and can fall twice or not at all in one Gregorian year.
  • Bandi Chhor Divas follows Diwali: the last day on which Kattak Masya is current at sunset. The Sahibzade shaheedi days, Vaisakhi and the sangrands follow the solar dates.
  • Published SGPC lists can differ by a day when a tithi begins or ends close to sunrise; in 2026 two published lists give Gurgaddi Guru Hargobind Ji on 10 May and 8 June (the latter counts the extra month of Jeth).

Both calendars are shown as published by those who follow them; this page does not prefer either. Dates are calculated for Amritsar; your gurdwara or sangat may announce a different day — follow its committee. Everything runs in your browser.

Nanakshahi calendar 2026: gurpurab dates in both calendars

This Nanakshahi calendar lists the year’s gurpurabs, sangrands, masya and puranmashi days, and shows any date in the Sikh calendar. Because there are two Nanakshahi calendars in use, every gurpurab is shown twice, side by side: in the Mool (original) Nanakshahi calendar adopted in 2003, where the dates never move, and in the SGPC calendar amended in 2010, which follows the Bikrami solar months and the lunar dates. The page does not choose between them.

Use it as a gurpurab 2026 list — for example the Parkash Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji is 14 April in the Mool calendar and Kattak Puranmashi, Tuesday 24 November 2026, in the SGPC calendar — or pick any year from 2000 to 2099. You can filter the list to Parkash, Gurgaddi, Joti Jot or Shaheedi days, download it as CSV, or copy it to share with your sangat.

How to use the Nanakshahi Calendar with Gurpurab Dates

  1. Pick a Date, or press Today, to see its Nanakshahi date in both calendars and the lunar date (tithi) at sunrise.
  2. Set the year for the gurpurab list.
  3. Read each gurpurab’s Mool date, its SGPC date with the lunar rule, and how many days apart they are.
  4. Use Show to filter, then Download CSV or Copy list.
  5. Scroll down for the year’s sangrand dates and the masya and puranmashi days.

Why the two Nanakshahi calendars disagree

Pal Singh Purewal’s Nanakshahi calendar follows the tropical year — the year of the seasons — like the Gregorian calendar, so 1 Chet is always 14 March and Year 1 is 1469, the year of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth: 14 March 2026 began Nanakshahi 558. The Akal Takht approved it in 2003. In 2010 the SGPC amended it so that the months again follow the sidereal Bikrami year and most gurpurabs follow the lunar date, as before 2003. The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and many gurdwaras abroad keep the original calendar, now usually called the Mool Nanakshahi calendar; the SGPC and many gurdwaras in India follow the amended one.

The 2003 calendar itself kept three days on lunar dates: Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Gurpurab (Kattak Puranmashi), Hola Mohalla (the day after Holi) and Bandi Chhor Divas (Diwali). Supporters of the Mool calendar have since fixed them on 1 Vaisakh, 1 Chet and 1 Phagan. Both forms are shown, with a note on those three rows.

How the SGPC dates are calculated

The SGPC month begins on the sangrand, the day on which the Sun enters the next sidereal sign. In the SGPC lists the day is counted from sunrise to sunrise: when the ingress comes after midnight but before sunrise, the sangrand is the previous date. In 2026 the Sun entered Meena at 01:03 IST on 15 March, so Sangrand Chet was Saturday 14 March. The lunar gurpurabs use the tithi at sunrise in Amritsar within the named lunar month, written the Punjabi (purnimanta) way: Vadi, the dark half, belongs to the coming month.

Checked against SGPC-based lists for 2025 and 2026: all 28 sangrands, every solar date of 2026, and 77 of 78 gurpurab dates agree, and the lunar dates of Hola Mohalla, Bandi Chhor Divas and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Gurpurab match published tables for 2003–2020. For the Vikram Samvat and other Indian calendars see the Hindu calendar converter, today’s panchang and the Gujarati calendar.

Nanakshahi Calendar with Gurpurab Dates FAQ

When is Guru Nanak Gurpurab in 2026?

In the SGPC calendar on Kattak Puranmashi, Tuesday 24 November 2026. The Mool Nanakshahi calendar keeps it on 1 Vaisakh, 14 April; the 2003 text kept the lunar Kattak Puranmashi date.

Why is there no Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurpurab in the 2026 SGPC list?

Poh Sudi 7 fell on 27 December 2025 and next falls on 15 January 2027, so the lunar date skips 2026. In the Mool calendar it is 5 January every year.

What is the Nanakshahi date today?

Press Today: the page shows today’s date in the Mool calendar and in the SGPC calendar, with the tithi.

Which Nanakshahi calendar is correct?

Both are followed in good faith by different Sikh bodies, so this page shows both and leaves the choice to you and your gurdwara.

When is sangrand this month?

See the sangrand table. Mool months begin on fixed dates; the SGPC sangrand follows the Sun’s sidereal ingress and is usually one to three days later.

Is this the official SGPC jantri?

No. The SGPC dates are calculated with the rules its published calendar follows and checked against it; if your gurdwara announces a different day, follow the gurdwara.
