Tithis are calculated for the chosen city from the Moon and Sun (tithi at sunrise). Jain sanghs follow their own printed panchang — for example a Tapa Gachchha, Kharatara Gachchha, Terapanth or Digambar calendar — and these can differ from each other and from this page by a day. Confirm dates for pratikraman, upvas and parana with your sangh, guru or temple.

Jain calendar with tithi, and the Jain tithi today

This Jain calendar shows the Jain tithi today — the lunar day current at sunrise in your city — with the Jain month, Vir Nirvan Samvat and Vikram Samvat, and whether it is a parva tithi or a Rohini day. Below it is a month calendar with the tithi of every day, and a list of the year’s Jain festivals: Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, Akshaya Tritiya, Paryushan and Samvatsari, Das Lakshan, Diwali (Mahavir Nirvan), Gyan Panchami, the Ashtahnika and Oli periods and more.

Choose Shwetambar or Digambar: the parva tithis and festivals change with the tradition. You can also choose amanta month names, as in Gujarat, or purnimanta names, as in North India. For the daily vows by the clock, see Jain pachchakhan times (Navkarsi, Porsi, Chauvihar).

How to use the Jain Calendar & Jain Tithi Today

  1. Pick your City or enter coordinates; the tithi depends on local sunrise.
  2. Choose Shwetambar or Digambar, and the month system.
  3. Read today’s tithi in the box and the next festivals under Coming up.
  4. Browse the month calendar with the arrows; tap any day to see its tithi, month and samvat.
  5. Scroll the festival list for the whole year, or press Download CSV.

Jain Calendar & Jain Tithi Today features

Tithi at sunrise

Each day’s tithi is the one current at local sunrise, with the time it ends and the next tithi.

Parva tithis

Shwetambar: Beej, Pancham, Atham, Agiyaras and Chaudas of both pakshas, Poonam and Amas. Digambar: Ashtami and Chaturdashi.

Festivals by tradition

Paryushan and Samvatsari, Gyan Panchami and Maun Ekadashi for Shwetambar; Das Lakshan, Shrut Panchami and Kshamavani for Digambar.

Vir Nirvan Samvat

The Jain era, counted from the Nirvan of Bhagwan Mahavir; a new year begins the day after Diwali.

How the dates are worked out

A tithi is a thirtieth of the lunar month: the time the Moon takes to gain 12° on the Sun. The day takes the tithi current at sunrise. When a tithi begins and ends between two sunrises (kshaya) it is kept on the day it begins — the Jain rule “kshaye purva tithih karya” — and when one tithi covers two sunrises the first day is used. Months are named amanta from the new moon, and an extra (adhika) month is skipped for festivals; Akshaya Tritiya follows the tithi at midday, as almanacs place it.

The results were compared with two published Jain calendars. All of Drik Panchang’s 2026 and 2025 dates for Mahavir Jayanti, Keval Jnan, Akshaya Tritiya, Varshitap, the Navpad Oli, the Chaumasi Chaudas days, Paryushan 2026, Gyan Panchami and Meru Trayodashi agree, as do the Digambar dates of the AtmaDharma 2026 calendar (Songadh) for Shrut Panchami, Ananta Chaturdashi, Kshamavani and Diwali.

Where calendars differ

  • Samvatsari 2025: tithi at sunrise gives Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi on 27 August, as many sanghs kept it; some calendars listed 28 August (Panchami). Tick “Samvatsari on Panchami” for gachchhas that keep the fifth.
  • Mahavir Janma Kalyanak 2026: 31 March by sunrise tithi (also the Government of India holiday); the Songadh Jain Tithi Darpan lists 30 March.
  • Ashtahnika and Oli periods sometimes start a day earlier in other almanacs.
  • Outside India, many Jain societies follow the dates of an Indian panchang rather than local sunrise. Pick an Indian city to match them.

Jain Calendar & Jain Tithi Today FAQ

What is the Jain tithi today?

It is in the box at the top: the tithi current at sunrise in the city you chose, with the time it ends. Change the city to match where you are.

Which are the parva tithis?

Shwetambar Jains observe twelve a month: the 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th and 14th of each paksha, Purnima and Amavasya. Digambar Jains mainly observe Ashtami and Chaturdashi.

When is Paryushan 2026?

For Shwetambar Jains, 8 to 15 September 2026, with Samvatsari on 15 September. Digambar Das Lakshan Parva runs from 16 to 25 September, with Kshamavani on 27 September.

What is the Jain tithi today for Digambar?

The tithi itself is the same; choose Digambar to see the Digambar parva days and festivals.

What is Vir Nirvan Samvat?

The Jain era counted from Mahavir’s Nirvan. Vir Nirvan Samvat 2552 began on 22 October 2025, the day after Diwali, and 2553 begins on 10 November 2026.

Why might my sangh’s calendar show a different date?

Each sangh follows its own printed panchang, which may use traditional calculations or another city’s sunrise. Follow your guru or sangh for observances.
