A free name tag maker for events, classes and meetups

This name tag maker turns a list of names into a sheet of printable badges. Paste the names — with an optional title and company after a | — choose the classic red “Hello my name is” sticker, a colour bar carrying your event name, or a plain bordered badge, and the sheet redraws as you type. Print directly onto Avery 5395 name-badge labels, 5392 badge inserts, or any plain sheet you will cut and slip into badge holders.

It suits conferences, workshops, school open days, church groups, reunions and office visitor desks: anywhere you need fifty badges by nine o’clock and do not want to fight a word-processor template. Names are laid out one per badge in order, so a sorted list prints sorted.

The whole thing runs in your browser. The list of attendees is never uploaded, and there is nothing to install or sign up for.

How to use the Name Tag Maker

  1. Paste names into the box, one per line. Add a title and an organisation after pipes, for example Asha Verma | Product Manager | Lumen Labs.
  2. Pick a Style: “Hello my name is”, Colour bar + event name, or Plain with border. For the colour-bar style, type your event under Header text.
  3. Choose the badge Colour and Font. Red with white lettering is the traditional Hello look; a brand colour works well on the bar style.
  4. Select a Badge sheet: Avery 5395/8395 (8 per Letter sheet), Avery 5392 inserts (6 per sheet), an A4 or Letter grid, or Custom size… with your own width and height in millimetres.
  5. Check the preview, page through it with the arrows, then Download PDF, Download PNG or Print at 100% scale.

Name Tag Maker features

Three badge styles

The iconic “HELLO my name is” band, a slim colour bar with your event name and a bottom rule, or a plain rounded border with an accent line.

Name, title and company lines

Each badge shows the name in bold and up to two smaller lines beneath it, centred and spaced automatically.

Names that always fit

Long names shrink in half-point steps until they fit the badge width, and the badge height sets a sensible maximum so short names do not look shouty.

Avery 5395 and 5392 geometry

Built-in margins and pitch for Avery 5395/8395 (3⅜ × 2⅓ in, 8 per sheet) and 5392 inserts (4 × 3 in, 6 per sheet), so printing on the real sheets lines up.

Plain-paper grids and custom sizes

A4 and Letter grids for 90 × 55 mm badge holders, 100 × 70 mm and 3.5 × 2.25 in, plus a custom size that fits as many badges per page as the paper allows, with dashed cut lines.

PDF, PNG and print

A vector PDF at the exact paper size for a print shop, a 150 dpi PNG of any page, and a print button that sends just the sheet to your printer.

Which badge size should you use?

Badge holders are usually a millimetre or two larger than the stated insert size. If the inserts bind, set a custom size 1 mm smaller in each direction.

Tips for badges people can actually read

  • Name first, big and bold. The name is what someone glances at from a metre away; the title and company are for closer conversation. Keep the first line to the name you want people to use — “Asha”, not “Dr A. R. Verma MBBS”.
  • Keep colours high-contrast. Dark text on white for the name and white on a saturated colour for the band print clearly on inkjet and laser printers alike.
  • Print a test page on plain paper before using adhesive sheets, and set the print dialog to “Actual size”. Scaling by even 5% moves every badge off its sticker.
  • Sort the list first so badges come out alphabetically and are easy to find on the registration table; the sort lines tool does this in one click.
  • For table seating at the same event, the seating chart maker places the same names at tables and prints matching name cards, and the table tent card maker makes folded place cards.

Name Tag Maker FAQ

Can the name tag maker print on Avery 5395 labels?

Yes. Choose “Avery 5395 / 8395” as the badge sheet. The layout uses Avery’s published dimensions — eight 3⅜ × 2⅓ in badges with a 0.583 in top margin — so each badge lands on its sticker when printed at 100% on Letter paper.

How do I add a job title or company?

Put them after the name on the same line, separated by vertical bars: Name | Title | Company. Either part can be left out. Lines are centred under the name in a smaller size.

Can I change the “Hello my name is” wording?

That style keeps the classic words. Choose “Colour bar + event name” to put your own header — an event name, “VISITOR”, “STAFF” or a date — on the band instead.

Is there a limit on the number of names?

No practical limit. Every eight (or six) names start a new page, and the PDF contains all pages. A list of 300 names makes 38 pages on Avery 5395 sheets.

Why do some names print smaller?

A name that is too wide for the badge is shrunk until it fits. Shorten very long names, use a nickname, or pick a larger badge sheet such as Avery 5392 if you need uniform sizes.

Does it support non-Latin names?

The on-screen preview and PNG use your system fonts and show most scripts. The PDF uses the built-in Latin fonts, so Devanagari, Arabic or CJK characters appear as “?” there — print from the browser or use the PNG for those names.
