A Pinterest pin and board cover maker
Pinterest is a feed of tall images, and the shape matters: Pinterest’s own specs recommend a 2:3 ratio — 1000 × 1500 pixels — and warn that pins taller than 2:3 may be cut off in people’s feeds. This Pinterest pin maker starts at exactly that size, with templates for blog posts, recipes, step-by-step guides, checklists, quotes and product sales, all drawn in code so there is no stock photo to licence.
The same editor makes the other two Pinterest images people get wrong. A board cover is chosen from a pin on the board and cropped to a square, so the canvas shows the square that survives and a preview of the board tile. A profile cover for business accounts is 16:9, and the centre-safe area keeps your words away from the edges. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use the Pinterest Pin & Board Cover Maker
- Choose Standard pin, Square pin or board cover or Profile cover at the top.
- Pick a template, tap the words on the canvas and replace them in Edit. Swap fonts, colours and the background in Background.
- Select a photo placeholder and add your own picture from the Add tab; it fills the placeholder’s spot.
- For a pin you might use as a board cover, keep the title inside the bright square — the rest is trimmed when it becomes the cover.
- Check the 236-pixel feed preview, then download PNG (crisp text) or JPG (smaller) and upload it on Pinterest with your link, title and description.

Pinterest image sizes (as of October 2026)
Pinterest’s ad-spec page lists file limits of 20 MB on a computer and 32 MB in the app — far more than a designed pin needs.
| Image | Make it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard pin | 1000 × 1500 px (2:3) | Pinterest’s recommended ratio; PNG or JPEG; pins taller than 2:3 may be cut off in feeds |
| Square pin | 1000 × 1000 px (1:1) | Takes less room in the feed; good for products |
| Board cover | Any pin on the board, shown as a square | Make it at least 600 × 600; keep the title in the middle |
| Profile cover | 16:9, e.g. 1920 × 1080 px | Business accounts; Pinterest asks for at least 800 × 450 |
Worked example: one pin that is also a good board cover
On a 1000 × 1500 pin the board-cover square is the middle 1000 × 1000 — from y = 250 to y = 1250. The “Quote pin” template puts its quotation on two lines of 124 px Playfair Display centred at y = 660 — about y = 525 to 795 — and its “save this for later” line at y = 980, so both fit inside the square and the board cover reads exactly like the pin.
In the feed the pin is shown 236 pixels wide, so everything is scaled by 236 ÷ 1000 ≈ 0.24. The 124 px quotation becomes roughly 29 px tall, easy to read while scrolling. A 30 px footer would end up around 7 px, which is why the editor warns about text below about 9 pixels at feed size.
Pin design tips
- Put the promise in the title. “10 cozy living room ideas” or “ready in 25 minutes” tells people why to click.
- Vertical, not taller. Stick to 2:3; extra-long infographic pins may be cut off before the important part.
- Brand quietly. A small website or handle at the bottom is enough; keep it at least 40 px tall.
- Combining several photos first? Build them in the Collage Maker and add the result as a background photo. For a cut-out product, use Remove Background. The Social Media Image Sizes table lists Pinterest beside every other network.
Pinterest Pin & Board Cover Maker FAQ
What is the best Pinterest pin size?
1000 × 1500 pixels, a 2:3 ratio, which is what Pinterest recommends. This Pinterest pin maker starts there. Square 1000 × 1000 pins work too but take less space in the feed.
What size is a Pinterest board cover?
A board cover is one of the pins on that board, shown cropped to a square. Make the cover pin at least 600 × 600 (1000 × 1000 here) or design a 2:3 pin and keep the important part inside the middle square shown on the canvas.
How do I change a board cover on Pinterest?
Open the board, choose Edit board (the … menu on mobile), then change the cover and pick a pin from the board. You can usually drag the image to choose which part of it shows.
What size is a Pinterest profile cover?
Pinterest asks for a horizontal 16:9 image at least 800 × 450 pixels for business profiles. This tool makes 1920 × 1080 for a sharp result.
PNG or JPG for pins?
PNG keeps text and flat colours perfectly sharp and is a good default for designed pins. JPG is smaller and better for photo-heavy pins; both are accepted.
Can I use these templates commercially?
Yes. The templates are simple shapes, gradients and text drawn by this tool, and the fonts are under the SIL Open Font License or Apache License, which allow commercial use.
