Printing sends only the sheet to the printer at 100% scale. The PDF is vector (sharp at any size); the PNG shows the first page. Everything is drawn in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

A printable graph paper generator for every kind of grid

This graph paper generator makes exactly the sheet you need and prints it at true size. Choose a square grid in millimetres or inches, a dot grid for bullet journals and sketching, isometric triangle paper for 3D drawings, hexagonal paper for games and chemistry, semi-log or log-log paper for science and engineering plots, or polar paper for angles and trigonometry. Set the spacing, line weight, colour, heavy lines, margin and number of pages, and watch the preview update as you type.

When it looks right, print it straight from the page, or save a vector PDF that stays crisp at any zoom, or a PNG for a tablet or a document. Sizes are real: a 5 mm grid printed at 100% measures 5 mm on paper, so the sheet works for scale drawings, knitting charts and maths homework alike.

Everything is drawn in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no sign-up and there are no watermarks.

How to use the Graph Paper Generator

  1. Pick a paper type: square grid, dot grid, isometric, hexagonal, log / semi-log or polar.
  2. Set the spacing (switch the unit between mm and inch), the line weight and the line colour. Pale blue or grey prints lightly so your own marks stand out.
  3. Choose how often a heavy line appears — every 5 or 10 squares makes counting easier — and set the margin and the number of pages.
  4. Select A4, US Letter, A5 or Legal and portrait or landscape. The preview shows the first page.
  5. Press Print graph paper, or download a PDF (vector) or a PNG at 150 or 300 dpi. In the print dialog keep the scale at 100% / “Actual size”.

Graph Paper Generator features

Six paper types

Square, dot, isometric, hexagonal, logarithmic (semi-log and log-log with 1–6 decades per axis) and polar with your own angle step.

Metric or imperial

Spacing in millimetres or inches: 1 mm, 2 mm, 5 mm, 1 cm, ¼ inch, ½ inch or anything in between.

Heavy lines and borders

A thicker line every N squares (or every N rings on polar paper) and an optional border around the grid.

True-size output

Pages are built in millimetres, so the PDF and the printed sheet match the spacing you asked for.

Multi-page PDFs

Make up to 30 identical pages in one PDF for a whole class or a project binder.

Three outputs

Print directly, download a vector PDF or a PNG image, all generated in your browser.

Which graph paper should you use?

TypeTypical spacingUsed for
Square grid5 mm, 1 cm, ¼ in, 4 or 5 squares per inchMaths homework, plotting data, floor plans, pixel art, cross-stitch
Dot grid5 mm or ¼ inBullet journals, hand lettering, sketching with less visual noise
Isometric5–10 mm triangle sideIsometric drawings of 3D objects, Minecraft-style builds, engineering sketches
Hexagonal5–15 mm hexagon sideOrganic chemistry structures, board-game maps, quilting
Semi-log1 linear axis + 2–4 decadesExponential growth, decay curves, Bode plots, pH and sound levels
Log-log2–4 decades per axisPower laws, frequency responses, data that spans orders of magnitude
Polar5–10 mm rings, 10–15° spokesTrigonometry, antenna patterns, navigation, spirograph-style art

Getting the printed size right

Printers like to “fit to page”, which shrinks a 5 mm grid to about 4.7 mm. In the print dialog choose Actual size or set the scale to 100%, and turn off any “fit” or “shrink oversized pages” option. If your printer cannot print to the edge, increase the margin instead of letting the driver scale the sheet. The PDF uses the same millimetre geometry as the preview, so printing the PDF from a PDF reader at 100% gives identical results. For a quick check, measure ten squares with a ruler: a 5 mm grid should span exactly 50 mm.

  • Light colours print best. Pale blue (#7FA7D6) or light grey keeps the grid from competing with pencil lines; it also scans and photocopies cleanly.
  • Line weight 0.15–0.25 mm suits most printers. Below 0.1 mm some laser printers drop lines; above 0.5 mm the grid looks heavy.
  • Heavy line every 5 on a 2 mm grid gives millimetre-style engineering paper; every 10 on a 1 mm grid makes true millimetre paper.

How log and polar paper are drawn

Each decade on a logarithmic axis is divided at log10(2) … log10(9), so the lines sit at 30.1%, 47.7%, 60.2%, 69.9%, 77.8%, 84.5%, 90.3% and 95.4% of the decade height, with a heavy line at every power of ten. When a decade is taller than 25 mm, half-steps (1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5) are added as fine lines. Polar paper draws concentric rings at the chosen spacing and spokes every N degrees, labelled in 30° steps (or your step when it is 15° or more), with heavier lines on the 0°, 90°, 180° and 270° axes.

Need lined paper for notes, a Cornell notes layout or blank sheet music instead? Those generators share the same print engine. To put two sheets on one page, run the PDF through the PDF N-up tool.

Graph Paper Generator FAQ

Can I make 1 mm millimetre graph paper?

Yes. Choose Square grid, set the spacing to 1 mm, the line weight to about 0.1 mm and a heavy line every 10 — that is classic millimetre paper. A 5 mm or 10 mm heavy line makes it easier to count.

Is the printed grid really the size I set?

Yes, as long as the print dialog is at 100% / Actual size. The page is built in millimetres and exported as a vector PDF with the exact paper dimensions, so a 1 cm grid measures 1 cm on paper.

How do I get ¼-inch graph paper?

Switch the spacing unit to inch and enter 0.25. For “4 squares per inch” paper use 0.25; for 5 squares per inch use 0.2; for 10 use 0.1 with a heavy line every 10.

What is the difference between semi-log and log-log paper?

Semi-log paper has one logarithmic axis (Y) and one linear axis (X); exponential relationships plot as straight lines on it. Log-log paper has both axes logarithmic, which turns power laws (y = axⁿ) into straight lines.

Can I download the graph paper as a PDF with several pages?

Yes. Set Pages to the number you need (up to 30) and press Download PDF. Every page has the same grid, and the file is small because it is vector graphics rather than an image.

Does this graph paper generator upload anything?

No. The grid is drawn with JavaScript on your device and the PDF and PNG are generated locally. Nothing is sent to a server.
