Gowri panchangam today: nalla neram for your city
This free Gowri panchangam today page shows the Tamil nalla neram (good time) for any date and city. It divides the day from sunrise to sunset, and the night from sunset to the next sunrise, into eight Gowri parts each, names them in English and Tamil — Amirdha (அமிர்தம்), Uthi (உத்தி), Laabam (லாபம்), Dhanam (தனம்), Sugam (சுகம்), Soram (சோரம்), Rogam (ரோகம்) and Visham (விஷம்) — and marks which are good and which are to be avoided.
It opens on today’s date in your own time zone, says which Gowri part is running now and when the next nalla neram starts, and also gives Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam and Kuligai from the same sunrise. The weekday tables were checked against Drik Panchang and prokerala.com, and an automatic test compares their published times for New Delhi and Chennai minute by minute.
Gowri panchangam is a custom many Tamil families use to pick a time for a journey, a purchase or a ceremony. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.

How the Gowri panchangam is worked out
The daytime between local sunrise and sunset is divided into eight equal parts, and so is the night until the next sunrise. Each part gets one of the eight Gowris, in an order that depends on the weekday. Five are counted as good — Amirdha (nectar), Uthi (progress), Laabam (gain), Dhanam (wealth) and Sugam (comfort) — and three are avoided: Soram, Rogam and Visham. The good parts make up the Gowri nalla neram.
Example: in Chennai on Monday 19 October 2026 the visible sunrise is at 6:00 am and sunset at 5:48 pm, so each day part lasts about 88 minutes. Monday’s day order begins Amirdha, Visham, Rogam, Laabam, so nalla neram runs 6:00–7:28 am, then 10:25 am–2:51 pm (Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam) and 4:19–5:48 pm (Uthi). Timed from the Sun’s centre, as prokerala.com does, sunrise is 6:03 am and every boundary moves by one to three minutes.
| Weekday | Day parts 1 → 8 | Night parts 1 → 8 |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Uthi, Amirdha, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Visham | Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Visham, Uthi, Amirdha, Rogam, Laabam |
| Monday | Amirdha, Visham, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Uthi | Sugam, Soram, Uthi, Amirdha, Visham, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam |
| Tuesday | Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Uthi, Visham, Amirdha | Soram, Uthi, Visham, Amirdha, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam |
| Wednesday | Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Visham, Uthi, Amirdha, Rogam | Uthi, Amirdha, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Visham |
| Thursday | Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Uthi, Amirdha, Visham, Rogam, Laabam | Amirdha, Visham, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Uthi |
| Friday | Sugam, Soram, Uthi, Visham, Amirdha, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam | Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Uthi, Visham, Amirdha |
| Saturday | Soram, Uthi, Visham, Amirdha, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam | Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram, Uthi, Visham, Amirdha, Soram |
Sunrise times or the printed table?
Panchangams such as the Pambu Panchangam, and websites like Drik Panchang, start the first part at the real local sunrise, so the times move through the year and from city to city; some sites time sunrise from the Sun’s centre instead of its upper edge, a few minutes later. Many wall calendars print a fixed table that assumes sunrise at 6:00 and sunset at 18:00, with every part exactly 1 h 30 min; choose Fixed 6:00 to see that version. The order of the Gowris is the same in both; one printed table differs only in the last Saturday-night part, giving Rogam instead of Soram. Tamil daily calendar sheets also print a separate one-hour “நல்ல நேரம்” chosen by the almanac’s compiler; it changes from date to date and is not reproduced here.
Gowri panchangam outside India
In Singapore, London or New Jersey, use your own city: a time printed for Chennai is wrong elsewhere. Daylight saving is followed automatically. For Rahu Kaal over a whole week see Rahu Kaal today; for the tithi and nakshatra of the day, panchang today; for Ekadashi, Pradosham and other fasting dates, the tithi calendar.
Gowri Panchangam & Nalla Neram FAQ
What is nalla neram today?
The good Gowri parts for today in your city are shown in the boxes at the top of the page; the line below them says what is running now and when the next nalla neram starts.
Which Gowri is the best?
Amirdha (அமிர்தம்) is traditionally counted as the best, followed by Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam and Uthi. Rogam, Soram and Visham are avoided.
Why do different sites give different Gowri times?
Some use the real local sunrise, some a fixed 6:00 sunrise, and some another city. Choose your own city and the method your calendar uses.
Does the night Gowri belong to the next date?
No. The night parts run from sunset until the next sunrise and follow the weekday of the evening they start on, so 2 am on Tuesday is still part of Monday’s night.
Should nalla neram avoid Rahu Kalam?
Many families avoid starting things in Rahu Kalam and Yamagandam even when the Gowri is good. Tick the box to leave them out.
Can Gowri panchangam predict results?
No. It is a traditional way of dividing the day. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.
