Split an image into a grid for Instagram and more
This image splitter cuts one picture into equal tiles. Use it to make a seamless Instagram carousel that swipes across a wide panorama, a giant 3 × 3 profile grid where nine posts form one big image, or simply to divide a poster, map or scanned page into printable pieces.
Choose a preset or set any number of rows and columns from 1 to 10, pick the tile shape, and the preview shows exactly where the cuts fall with each tile’s posting number. Tiles are named in the order you should upload them and download together as a ZIP. The image is processed in your browser, so it is never uploaded.
How to use the Image Splitter
- Drop your image onto the upload area, click to choose a file, or paste one with Ctrl+V.
- Tap a preset — “Carousel · 3 slides” for a swipeable panorama or “Profile grid · 3 × 3” for a nine-post mosaic — or type your own rows and columns.
- Choose the tile shape. Square or 4:5 portrait crops the image so every tile has that exact ratio; move the “Crop position” slider to choose which part is kept.
- Pick the tile size and format. 1080 px wide is the standard Instagram upload width.
- Press “Download all tiles (ZIP)”, or tap a single tile to download just that one.
Image Splitter features
Instagram presets
One tap for 2- and 3-slide carousels, 3 × 3 and 2 × 3 profile grids, or a simple 2 × 2 split.
Any grid up to 10 × 10
Set rows and columns freely for posters, puzzles, comic panels or printing a large image across several sheets.
Exact tile ratios
Crop to 1:1, 4:5, 3:4 or 9:16 tiles so nothing is cropped again by the app, with a slider to position the crop.
Posting order built in
Tiles are numbered and named for posting: left-to-right for carousels, or bottom-right first so a profile grid assembles correctly.
Full quality output
Keep the original resolution or export 1080 px tiles in JPG, PNG or WebP.
Private and free
No upload, no watermark and no account — the splitting happens on your device.
How to post a 3 × 3 Instagram grid
Instagram shows your newest post in the top-left corner of your profile, so a grid has to be posted backwards. With “Instagram grid” numbering, tile 1 is the bottom-right piece: post tiles 1, 2, 3 … 9 in that order and the picture assembles itself.
Your profile grid must be a multiple of three wide to stay aligned, so plan any other posts in rows of three. Instagram now shows profile thumbnails as portrait rectangles rather than squares on many accounts; if yours does, choose the 3:4 tile shape so each thumbnail matches what visitors see.
Making a seamless swipe carousel
- Start with a wide image — a panorama, a group photo or a designed banner. For 3 slides at 4:5, the ideal source is 3240 × 1350 px.
- Use “Carousel · 3 slides” (1 row × 3 columns). Each slide becomes one tile numbered left to right.
- Upload the tiles as one carousel post in number order. Viewers swipe across the image as one continuous scene.
- Avoid placing faces or text exactly on a cut line; move the crop position slightly if needed.
Tile sizes at a glance
Sizes change from time to time — check the current recommendations on Social Media Image Sizes. For a single framed picture made from several photos, the Collage Maker does the opposite job, and Crop Image helps you frame the source first.
| Layout | Rows × columns | Tile shape | Ideal source image |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-slide carousel | 1 × 2 | 4:5 portrait | 2160 × 1350 px |
| 3-slide carousel | 1 × 3 | 4:5 portrait | 3240 × 1350 px |
| Square 3-slide carousel | 1 × 3 | 1:1 | 3240 × 1080 px |
| Profile grid (9 posts) | 3 × 3 | 1:1 | 3240 × 3240 px |
| Profile grid (6 posts) | 2 × 3 | 1:1 | 3240 × 2160 px |
Image Splitter FAQ
How do I split an image into 9 parts for Instagram?
Upload your image, tap “Profile grid · 3 × 3” and download the ZIP. Post the tiles in number order, starting with tile 1 (the bottom-right piece) and ending with tile 9, and they form one large picture on your profile.
Will splitting reduce the quality of my photo?
No resizing happens with “Original resolution”, and each tile is cut directly from your image. Choosing 1080 px resizes tiles to Instagram’s upload width, which avoids the app compressing them again.
Why are my tiles different sizes by one pixel?
When the image width isn’t exactly divisible by the number of columns, the extra pixels are spread across the tiles so nothing is lost. Choose a tile shape such as 1:1 to crop to exact proportions.
Can I split a panorama for a carousel?
Yes. Pick “Carousel · 2 slides” or “Carousel · 3 slides” and the panorama is divided into 4:5 slides numbered left to right. Upload them as one multi-photo post.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The image is cut into tiles by your browser’s canvas engine, and the ZIP is built on your device.
Can I use it for printing a poster on A4 sheets?
Yes. Choose “Keep image proportions”, set the rows and columns you need (for example 2 × 2 for four sheets), keep original resolution and print each tile on its own page.
