Upside Down Text Generator

Flip text upside down, mirror it or turn it back — ready to copy into any app.

Upside down (rotated 180°)
Mirrored (left–right)
Upside down + mirrored (vertical flip)
Backwards (reversed order only)

These are real Unicode characters, not an image, so they paste as text anywhere. A few rare letters (such as ꓭ, ᗡ and ⅁) need fonts that some older phones lack and may show as empty boxes.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Flip text upside down in one step

The Upside Down Text Generator turns normal writing into ʇxǝʇ uʍop ǝpᴉsdn that you can paste anywhere. As you type, it also produces a mirrored version that reads right to left, a vertical flip, and plain backwards text, each with its own Copy button.

Flipped text is popular for social media bios, usernames, puzzle hunts, birthday messages and jokes (“greetings from Australia”). Because the result is made of ordinary Unicode characters rather than an image, it works in Instagram, WhatsApp, X, Discord, TikTok comments, email and documents — and it can be flipped back just as easily.

How to use the Upside Down Text Generator

  1. Type or paste your text into “Your text”.
  2. Read the four results that appear instantly: upside down, mirrored, upside down + mirrored, and backwards.
  3. For several lines, keep “Reverse line order too” ticked for a true 180° rotation, or untick it to flip each line in place.
  4. Press “Copy” next to the version you want and paste it into your post, message or profile.
  5. To decode upside-down text someone sent you, paste it into the box — the “Upside down” result shows it the right way up.

Upside Down Text Generator features

Four transformations at once

Upside down, mirror image, vertical flip and plain reverse are generated together, so you can compare and pick.

Letters, numbers and punctuation

All 52 English letters, the ten digits and common punctuation such as ? ! ( ) [ ] and & have turned equivalents.

Works in both directions

Every mapping is reversible, so flipped text pasted back in is turned the right way up again.

Emoji-safe

Text is split into whole characters (grapheme clusters), so emoji, skin tones and flags are reversed without breaking apart.

Copy-ready Unicode

No images or special fonts — the output is plain text that survives copy and paste.

How upside-down text works

There is no “upside-down” setting in Unicode. Instead, the generator swaps each letter for another character that happens to look like it rotated 180°, then reverses the order so the text reads correctly when you turn your screen around. Many of these come from the International Phonetic Alphabet, which already contains turned letters such as ɐ (turned a), ǝ (turned e), ɥ (turned h), ɯ (turned m) and ʎ (turned y). Some letters simply swap with each other: b ↔ q, d ↔ p, n ↔ u, 6 ↔ 9.

Capital letters borrow from mathematics and other scripts: ∀ is the “for all” symbol, Ⅎ is the turned F used in Claudian Latin, ⅁ is a turned sans-serif G, and ꓘ comes from the Lisu alphabet. Symmetric letters such as H, I, N, O, S, X, Z, o, s, x and z look the same either way, so they stay unchanged.

Mirror text works the same way with reversed characters like ɘ (reversed e), ᴎ (reversed N), Я and ꙅ. Not every letter has a mirrored twin in Unicode, so letters such as f, g, h and k stay as they are in the mirrored result.

Character examples

Letters are shown one by one below. In the real output their order is also reversed, as in the last row, so the text reads correctly when turned around or seen in a mirror.

Font support and accessibility

Most characters used here are supported by every modern system font on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. A handful of rarer ones — ꓭ, ᗡ, ⅁ and ꓘ — may appear as empty boxes on older devices; the people you send them to see whatever their own device can display.

Screen readers read these characters by their Unicode names or skip them, so upside-down text is not accessible to blind and low-vision users. Use it for fun and decoration, not for information people need, and avoid it in usernames people must type.

Upside Down Text Generator FAQ

How do I type upside down text?

You cannot type it directly on a normal keyboard. Type normally in the upside down text generator, then copy the “Upside down” result and paste it wherever you want.

Does upside-down text work on Instagram, WhatsApp and X?

Yes. The result is standard Unicode text, so it can be pasted into posts, bios, comments, chats and usernames that accept special characters. A few rare letters may not display on very old phones.

How do I flip upside-down text back to normal?

Paste the upside-down text into the box. Because every mapping is reversible, the “Upside down” result shows it the right way up, or press “Use result as input” to move a flipped result into the box and turn it again.

What is the difference between upside-down and mirrored text?

Upside-down text is rotated 180°, as if you turned the page around. Mirrored text is reflected left to right, as if seen in a mirror, so it reads right to left but stays the right way up.

Why do some letters not change?

Letters like o, s, x, z, H, I, N, O, S, X and Z look the same after a 180° rotation, so they are kept. In mirror mode, some letters have no reversed form in Unicode, so they are left unchanged.

Is this generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and the conversion happens in your browser without sending your text anywhere.
