A free udhar book for shopkeepers: hisab kitab without paper
This udhar book is a simple customer credit ledger for kirana shops, chemists, dairies, tailors, tuition teachers and anyone who sells on credit. Add a customer, then record every You gave (goods or money given on udhaar) and You got (payment received). The book keeps a running balance for each customer and totals what you will get from everyone and what you hold as advances.
When a payment is due, one tap writes a polite reminder in English, Hindi or Hinglish with the exact balance and your UPI ID, ready to send on WhatsApp or by SMS. You can print or download a clean ledger account statement for any customer and any date range, with the opening balance, each entry and the closing balance.
There is no account, no sign-up and no server: the ledger is stored only in this browser on this device. That keeps your customers’ details private, but it also means you must export a CSV backup from time to time. The CSV opens in any spreadsheet and can be imported again on another phone or computer.

Udhar Book – Customer Credit Ledger features
Running balance
Every entry shows the balance after it, so you can see exactly when a customer’s udhaar went up or down.
Dues and advances
Positive balances are dues you will get; negative balances are advances you hold. Both totals are shown at the top.
Reminders in three languages
English, Hindi and Hinglish messages with the balance, date and your UPI ID, opened directly in WhatsApp or SMS. Edit the text before sending.
Statements
An account statement with opening balance, entries, totals and closing balance, printed or as a PDF with an embedded font so ₹ prints correctly.
CSV backup and import
Export everything to a spreadsheet-friendly CSV; import it back (duplicates are skipped) or bring in entries from a spreadsheet.
How the ledger account format works
Each customer has a personal account in the classic ledger account format: date, particulars, a debit column (you gave) and a credit column (you got), with a running balance. Balance = total given on credit − total payments received. If Ravi takes ₹1,500 of rice on 1 October, pays ₹500 on 5 October and takes ₹250.50 of oil on 8 October, his balance is ₹1,500 − ₹500 + ₹250.50 = ₹1,250.50 due.
A statement from 5 October starts with an opening balance of ₹1,500 (everything before that date), lists the entries in the range and ends with the closing balance. Totals are kept in whole paise, so there are no rounding drifts however many entries you add.
Keeping your data safe
- Data is saved in this browser’s local storage only — not on any server. Nobody else can see it, and it does not sync between devices.
- Clearing site data, uninstalling the browser or using private browsing can erase it. Export a CSV backup weekly, or after a busy day.
- To move to a new phone, export the CSV, send it to yourself and use Import CSV there. Entries already present are skipped.
- Deleting an entry or a customer always asks for confirmation first.
Getting paid faster
Send reminders on a fixed day each week, with the exact amount and a way to pay. Add your UPI ID in settings, or make a payment link with the UPI payment link generator. When a customer pays, give a receipt with the receipt generator, and record the day’s credit sales in the daily sales report. This ledger is a record-keeping aid, not accounting or legal advice.
Udhar Book – Customer Credit Ledger FAQ
Is this udhar book free?
Yes. It works in your browser with no sign-up, no ads in the ledger and no limit on customers or entries other than your browser’s storage.
Where is my hisab kitab stored?
Only on this device, in this browser. It is not uploaded anywhere. Export a CSV backup so you do not lose it if browser data is cleared.
How do I send a payment reminder on WhatsApp?
Open the customer, choose English, Hindi or Hinglish, check the message and press Send on WhatsApp. The message includes the balance and your UPI ID if you added it.
What does “You gave” and “You got” mean?
“You gave” is goods or money given to the customer on credit, so their balance due goes up. “You got” is a payment you received, so it goes down. A negative balance is an advance.
Can I use it on two phones?
Not at the same time — there is no sync. Export the CSV on one device and import it on the other when you switch.
Can I print a customer’s ledger?
Yes. Open the customer, choose a date range if you want, and press Print statement or Download PDF statement.
