Saturn return calculator with start, end and exact dates
This free Saturn return calculator finds the moments when Saturn comes back to the exact degree it occupied when you were born. It lists your first, second and third Saturn returns — usually around ages 29, 58 and 88 — with every exact pass, because Saturn often crosses the natal degree three times: once moving forward, once while retrograde, and once more after it turns direct.
Each return also gets a start and an end: the span when Saturn is within an orb you choose (1° to 5°) of its natal position, and the longer span it spends in your natal Saturn sign. Choose the tropical zodiac of Western astrology or the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac used in Vedic astrology. The page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.
How to use the Saturn Return Calculator
- Enter your Date of birth and Time of birth, or tick Birth time unknown.
- Choose the Birth place or the Time zone, so the birth time is converted correctly (daylight saving included).
- Pick the Zodiac: tropical for Western astrology, sidereal for the Vedic (Lahiri) version.
- Set the Return window — how close Saturn must be to its natal degree to count as “in” the return.
- Read the dates in the table and the curves, then Copy dates, Download CSV or Add to calendar.
Saturn Return Calculator features
Every exact pass
Saturn’s longitude is scanned every two days from age 20 to 100 and each crossing of the natal degree is bisected, so retrograde triple passes are never merged into one date.
Start and end dates
The window within your chosen orb, and Saturn’s whole stay in its natal sign, for each return.
Tropical or sidereal
Western returns to the tropical degree, or Vedic returns with the Lahiri ayanamsa; the two can differ by days to weeks.
Distance curves
A small chart per return shows Saturn approaching, crossing and leaving its natal degree, with the retrograde loop visible.
Calendar export
Download the exact pass dates as an .ics file for any calendar app, or as CSV.
How a Saturn return is calculated
Saturn takes about 29.46 years to go once round the zodiac, so it returns to the place it held at your birth roughly every 29½ years. The exact return is the moment its ecliptic longitude equals your natal Saturn longitude. Because the Earth overtakes Saturn every year, Saturn appears to move backwards (retrograde) for about four and a half months a year. If that loop happens over your natal degree, Saturn crosses it three times; if not, only once.
Worked example (the default): someone born in London on 15 March 1996 at 9:00 has natal Saturn at about 27° Pisces. Transiting Saturn reaches that degree in spring 2025, slips back over it while retrograde in late summer 2025, and crosses it for the last time in early 2026 — three exact passes of one first Saturn return, at age 29.
Typical Saturn return ages
Ages vary by a few months with the shape of Saturn’s orbit and where the retrograde loops fall. The table shows the usual range.
| Return | Typical age | Traditional theme |
|---|---|---|
| First Saturn return | 28–30 | stepping into adult responsibility |
| Second Saturn return | 57–60 | review, mastery, changing role |
| Third Saturn return | 86–89 | legacy and elder years |
Tropical, sidereal and the accuracy of the dates
In the tropical zodiac the natal degree is measured from the March equinox; in the sidereal zodiac it is measured from the stars. The equinox drifts against the stars by about 50″ a year, so after 29 years Saturn must travel about 25′ further to complete a sidereal return than a tropical one — usually a week or two later, more near a station. Choose whichever matches your astrology.
The planet positions are computed in your browser from orbital elements and agree with published ephemerides to about a minute of arc. Near a retrograde station Saturn moves only a few arc-minutes a day, so the time of a pass is uncertain by a few hours. The self-test checks the results against published ingress dates for 2023–2028. Saturn Return Calculator FAQ
When is my Saturn return?
Enter your birth date in the Saturn return calculator above. Most first returns fall between ages 28 and 30; the table gives the exact dates and the start and end of the window.
Why does my Saturn return have three dates?
Saturn turns retrograde each year. When the retrograde loop sits over your natal degree, Saturn crosses it forward, backward and forward again, so there are three exact passes within about ten months.
Do I need my birth time?
Not really. Saturn moves only about 2′ to 8′ a day, so a birth date alone fixes the natal degree to within a few arc-minutes; the dates can move by a few days. The tool says how large the uncertainty is.
What is a Vedic or sidereal Saturn return?
The same idea measured in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. It usually happens a week or two after the tropical return.
When does a Saturn return start and end?
Astrologers use different limits. This page gives both common ones: the period Saturn is within your chosen orb of its natal degree, and the period it spends in your natal Saturn sign.
Does a Saturn return predict events?
No. It is a named cycle in astrological tradition. Use it for reflection and fun; it is not prediction or advice.
