A free resume builder for clean, ATS-friendly resumes
This free resume builder helps you write a clear, professional resume (or CV) and download it as a PDF in minutes. Type your details into simple sections — experience, education, skills, projects, certifications and languages — and watch a true-to-size A4 or US Letter preview update as you go.
Every template is a single, cleanly structured column with standard headings, and the PDF is generated as real, selectable text — not a picture of a page. That matters, because most larger employers screen applications with an applicant tracking system (ATS) that reads the text of your file. Fancy two-column designs, text inside images and icons can confuse those systems; this builder avoids them.
There is no account and no paywall at the download step. Your resume is saved automatically in your browser, so you can close the tab and continue later, and you can export it as a file to edit on another device.
How to use the Resume Builder
- Pick a template — Classic, Modern or Compact — and your paper size: A4 for most countries, US Letter for the United States and Canada.
- Fill in your personal details and a short professional summary. Add a photo only if it is expected where you are applying.
- Add your jobs, newest first. Put one achievement per line in “Achievements” — each line becomes a bullet point.
- Add education, skills (separated by commas), and any projects, certifications and languages. Use the arrows to reorder entries.
- Check the preview (tap “Preview” on a phone). The length indicator tells you whether it fits on one page.
- Press “Download PDF”, or “Print” to print or save as PDF from your browser. Use “Export JSON” to keep an editable backup.

How to write a resume that gets interviews
- Lead with results, not duties. “Cut report preparation from 4 hours to 20 minutes by automating it in Python” beats “Responsible for weekly reports”.
- Use numbers. Percentages, revenue, time saved, team size and users served make achievements concrete.
- Mirror the job description. Use the same names for skills and tools as the advert, so both the ATS and the recruiter see the match.
- Keep it short. One page for early-career roles, two at most for experienced professionals. Cut anything older than 10–15 years unless it is directly relevant.
- Tailor every application. Export a JSON copy per role so you can quickly adjust the summary and bullet points.
Making your resume ATS-friendly
Applicant tracking systems read your resume from top to bottom and sort the text into fields such as job title, employer, dates and skills. They work best with plain structure: one column, standard headings like “Experience”, “Education” and “Skills”, dates written consistently (for example “Mar 2022 – Present”), and no important information hidden in headers, tables, text boxes or images.
This builder follows those rules automatically. Write your job titles exactly as they are commonly known, spell out abbreviations at least once, and save the file as a PDF unless the employer asks for a Word document. Before sending, check spelling and the reading level of your summary with the readability checker, and keep your summary between about 40 and 80 words — the word counter helps with longer cover letters.
Resume or CV — and should you add a photo?
In the US and Canada, a resume is a one- or two-page summary, and a CV is a longer academic record. In the UK, Ireland, India and much of the world, “CV” is the everyday word for the same short document. Either way, this builder produces the format recruiters expect.
Photos are standard in some countries, including Germany and parts of Asia and the Middle East, but in the US, UK and Canada they are usually left off to reduce bias. If you include one, use a recent, well-lit head-and-shoulders photo — the passport photo maker and crop image tools can help you prepare it.
Resume Builder FAQ
Is this resume builder really free?
Yes. The resume builder is completely free — no sign-up, no watermark and no payment to download your PDF.
Are the templates ATS-friendly?
Yes. All three templates use a single column, standard headings and real text. The PDF’s text can be selected and copied, which is a good sign that an applicant tracking system can read it too.
Is my resume data private?
Yes. Everything you type stays in your browser on this device and is never uploaded. Use Export JSON to keep a backup or to continue on another computer.
How long should my resume be?
One page is ideal if you have less than about ten years of experience; two pages is fine for senior roles. The indicator above the preview shows how many pages your resume will take.
Can I make a resume on my phone?
Yes. Fill in the form, switch to “Preview” to check the layout, then download the PDF. On iPhone, the PDF opens in a new view where you can share or save it to Files.
Why do some characters show as “?” in the PDF?
The PDF uses standard fonts that cover English and Western European letters. For names or text in other scripts, such as Hindi or Chinese, use “Print” and choose “Save as PDF” — that uses your device’s fonts.
