Galaxy of Tools never receives your audio or text — the transcript stays in this browser. Recognition is done by your browser’s speech service: Chrome sends your audio to Google, Edge to Microsoft and Safari to Apple (some devices process it on-device).

Fast, free speech to text in your browser

Typing on a phone is slow and long emails are tiring. The speech to text tool lets you talk instead: press Start dictation, speak naturally and your words appear in the box as you say them. It is ideal for drafting messages, capturing ideas, writing notes after a meeting, or for anyone who finds typing difficult.

It understands more than 40 languages and regional variants, including English for the US, UK and India, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese. Say “comma”, “full stop” or “new line” to punctuate as you go, fix anything by typing directly in the transcript, then copy it or download it as a .txt file. There is no account and no time limit.

How to use the Speech to Text

  1. Choose the language you will speak — the closer the match (for example English (India) for an Indian accent), the better the accuracy.
  2. Press Start dictation and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
  3. Speak clearly at a normal pace. Grey text below the box shows words still being recognised; they turn into normal text when final.
  4. Say punctuation such as “comma”, “question mark”, “new line” or “new paragraph” as you go (English and Hindi).
  5. Press Stop dictation when you finish, correct any words by typing, then use Copy text or Download .txt.

Speech to Text features

Live transcription

Words appear while you speak, with in-progress text shown separately so the final transcript stays clean.

40+ languages

Includes ten Indian languages, major European and Asian languages, and regional English variants.

Spoken punctuation

Commands for comma, full stop, question mark, colon, quotes, brackets, new line and new paragraph, plus basic Hindi commands.

Keeps listening

Browsers stop recognition after silence or about a minute; the tool restarts it automatically until you press Stop.

Edit, copy, download

The transcript is an ordinary text box: edit freely, copy in one click or save it as a .txt file.

Draft kept on your device

Your transcript is saved in this browser so it survives a reload; Clear removes it, with a short undo.

Browser support and privacy

This tool uses the Web Speech API built into browsers. It works in Chrome and Edge on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, and in Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad (iOS 14.5 or later). Firefox does not support it by default, and some Chromium-based browsers, such as Brave, do not include the speech service — the tool tells you clearly if your browser cannot dictate.

Be aware of where your voice goes: speech recognition is performed by the browser’s speech service, not by Galaxy of Tools. Chrome sends your audio to Google’s servers, Edge to Microsoft’s, and Safari to Apple (on-device for some languages and devices). That is why dictation in Chrome and Edge needs an internet connection. Galaxy of Tools never receives the audio or the transcript, which stays in your browser. Avoid dictating passwords or very sensitive information.

Tips for accurate dictation

  • Use a headset or a quiet room. Background noise and echo are the biggest causes of mistakes. Check your input level first with the mic test.
  • Pick the right language variant. English (India), English (UK) and English (US) are tuned to different accents and spellings.
  • Speak in phrases, then pause briefly. Recognition improves with complete phrases rather than single words.
  • Say punctuation as a separate word with a tiny pause before it, so “comma” isn’t merged into the previous word.
  • Proofread names and numbers. Unusual names, technical terms and figures are the most likely to need correction.

What to do with your transcript

Paste the text into an email, a document or the online notepad for safekeeping. Check its length with the word counter, or fix capitalisation with the case converter. To hear text read back to you instead, try text to speech.

Speech to Text FAQ

Is this speech to text tool free?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no time or word limit. It uses the speech recognition built into your browser.

Why doesn’t dictation work in Firefox?

Firefox does not support the Web Speech API’s speech recognition by default. Open the page in Chrome, Edge or Safari, or type into the transcript box instead.

Does it work in Hindi and other Indian languages?

Yes. Choose Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam or English (India) from the language list. Accuracy is best in Chrome and Edge.

Is my voice recorded or stored?

Galaxy of Tools does not record, receive or store your voice. Your browser streams the audio to its speech service (Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge, Apple for Safari) to recognise it. The transcript is kept only in your browser.

Why does it stop listening by itself?

Browsers end a recognition session after silence or about a minute. The tool restarts automatically while dictation is on; if it keeps stopping, check the microphone and your internet connection.

Can I transcribe an audio or video file?

No — the browser’s speech recognition only listens to the live microphone. To transcribe a recording, play it near the microphone in a quiet room, though accuracy will be lower than speaking directly.
