Merge fields — click one to insert it at the cursor

Enter starts a new paragraph. A paragraph that starts with “• ” or “1. ” prints as a list; Heading keeps a heading with the paragraph after it. Pasted text loses its formatting. Merge fields such as {{employee_name}} fill in from the form — in bulk mode, from each CSV row.

    Email version

The same text as an email — paste it into your mail app and attach the PDF if your company asks for a signed letter.

The PDF embeds Noto Sans, so ₹, £ and accented names print exactly and the text stays selectable. The Word file opens in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice.

Resignation letter generator that works out your last day

This free resignation letter generator writes your letter to your manager and works out your last working day from the notice period in your contract — in days, weeks or months, with the month-end rule handled. Choose a formal, warm, short or immediate version, add a reason if you want to give one, and copy the same text as an email.

If you need to leave early, enter the day you would like to go: the letter asks for an early release, and if you add your monthly pay, it estimates the notice buyout so you can offer it up front. Download a PDF or a Word file to sign. Everything stays in your browser — your employer’s name, your pay and your plans are never uploaded. It is a template, not legal advice: your contract decides your notice.

How to use the Resignation Letter Generator

    1. Enter your name, designation, employee ID and contact details, and your manager’s name, title and company.
    2. Pick a version — formal, warm, short or immediate — and the letter format for India, the US or the UK.
    3. Set the resignation date and your contractual notice period; the box underneath shows your last working day and flags weekends.
    4. Optionally choose a day to leave early and your monthly pay to see the buyout estimate, and tick the handover, thank-you and contact lines.
    5. Check the letter, edit any sentence, then download the PDF or Word file or copy the email version.

    Resignation Letter Generator features

    Last day calculated

Day 1 is the day after you resign (or the same day, if your contract says so); months end on the same date less a day, or the month’s last day.

    Early release and buyout

Unserved days are counted and priced at monthly pay ÷ 30, the common basis for notice pay recovery.

    Four versions

Formal, warm, short, and immediate with a waiver or buyout request.

    Email to copy

The same wording as plain text with a subject line and your signature block.

Your letter, not a company letter

Your name and address at the top, no reference number and no “For company” sign-off.

What to put in a resignation letter

    • A clear statement that you are resigning, from which position.
    • The date of the letter and your last working day under your notice period.
    • A reason only if you want to give one — it is not required.
    • An offer to hand over your work, and thanks if they fit the relationship.
    • A personal email for your relieving letter, payslips and tax certificate after you leave.

Worked example: 60 days’ notice from 14 October 2026

Resigning on Wednesday 14 October 2026 with 60 days’ notice, day 1 is 15 October, so the notice ends on Sunday 13 December. Because that is a weekend, the tool suggests asking whether Friday 11 December counts as your last working day. With two months’ notice instead, the last day is 14 December; resigning on 30 January 2027 with one month’s notice gives 28 February, as 31 February does not exist.

If you ask to leave on 30 November, 13 days are unserved. At ₹90,000 a month, one day’s pay is ₹3,000, so the buyout estimate is about ₹39,000. Your employer may calculate it differently — on basic pay, or on 26 working days — and may set off leave instead; check with the notice period calculator.

Notice rules in India, the US and the UK (as of October 2026)

    • India: your notice period comes from your appointment letter or the standing orders that apply to you; 30 to 90 days is common. Under the Code on Wages, 2019 (s.17(2)), dues on resignation are paid within two working days of leaving; gratuity under the Code on Social Security, 2020 needs five years of service (one for fixed-term staff). Ask for your relieving letter and experience certificate on the last day.
    • United States: most jobs are at will, so no notice is legally required, but two weeks is the custom and some contracts ask for more. Final pay deadlines are set by each state.
    • United Kingdom: after one month’s employment you must give at least one week’s notice (Employment Rights Act 1996, s.86(2)); your contract usually asks for more — commonly one month — and that is what counts.

    Mistakes to avoid

    • Getting the last day wrong by counting from the wrong day 1 — check your contract’s wording.
    • Venting about the company — the letter goes on your file and may be read by future reference-givers.
    • Leaving without a written early-release approval if you ask to go before your notice ends.

    Resignation Letter Generator FAQ

How do I write a resignation letter?

Address your manager, state that you are resigning from your position, give your last working day under your notice period, offer a handover, thank them if you wish, and sign it. This resignation letter generator does the wording and the date maths.

How is my last working day calculated?

Day 1 is normally the day after you resign. 60 days from 14 October ends on 13 December; one month from 31 January ends on 28 February. If the last day is a weekend, ask whether the previous working day counts.

Can I resign with immediate effect?

You can ask. The Immediate version requests a waiver of the unserved notice or offers notice pay recovery from your settlement; your employer decides, so get the release in writing.

What is a two weeks’ notice letter?

The US custom: a short resignation letter giving two weeks’ notice. Choose the US format and the notice switches to two weeks; resigning on 14 October 2026 gives a last day of 28 October.

Should I give a reason for resigning?

It is optional. A neutral reason — a new opportunity, studies, relocation — is fine; “Do not mention” leaves it out.

    Is my information sent anywhere?

No. The letter, the email text and the files are created in your browser, and drafts are kept only on this device.
