  • The divisor is set by your appointment letter, standing orders or pay policy, and for minimum-wage workers by the state notification — this calculator does not choose it.
  • The Code on Wages, 2019 (s.20) lets an employer deduct for absence only in proportion to the days you were required to work, so a 26-day divisor goes with counting working days, and calendar or 30-day divisors with counting calendar days.
  • Figures are gross, before PF, ESI, tax or other deductions.

An estimate, not payroll or legal advice. Your contract, pay policy and the wage law that applies to you decide the divisor and what counts as a working day.

Per day salary and loss of pay, worked out every common way

A per day salary calculator answers two everyday payroll questions: how much is one day of my monthly salary, and how much will be cut for unpaid leave? The answer depends on one number — the divisor your employer uses. Some divide the monthly salary by the calendar days in the month, some by a fixed 30, some by 26 working days, and some by the actual working days. On ₹30,000 the daily rate swings from ₹967.74 to ₹1,153.85 depending on that choice.

This calculator shows all of them side by side, highlights the one in your policy, and gives the hourly rate, the loss of pay (LOP) deduction including half days, and the salary left after it. For the UAE it uses the monthly ÷ 30 rule and the × 12 ÷ 365 alternative. It runs in your browser; nothing is saved or sent.

How to use the Per Day Salary Calculator

  1. Choose India or UAE.
  2. Enter the monthly salary your policy deducts from — usually gross pay in India; in the UAE, the basic or total wage your contract names.
  3. For India, pick the month and the divisor your appointment letter or HR policy uses; type the working days if you do not work six days a week.
  4. Enter the full days of unpaid leave and any half days, and the hours in your working day.
  5. Read the daily rate, the LOP deduction and the salary after it, compare the other methods in the table and copy the result.

Per Day Salary Calculator features

Four Indian methods

Calendar days, fixed 30, fixed 26 and working days in the month, side by side.

Half days

Each half day is counted as 0.5 LOP day.

Hourly rate

One day’s pay divided by your working hours.

UAE day rate

Monthly ÷ 30 (Art 67) or monthly × 12 ÷ 365.

Checks

LOP days cannot exceed the divisor or the month.

LOP calculation formula

One day’s salary = monthly salary ÷ divisor and LOP deduction = one day’s salary × LOP days, where a half day counts as 0.5. The salary for the month is monthly salary − LOP deduction, and the hourly rate is one day’s salary ÷ hours in a working day.

Worked example (October 2026, 31 days, 4 Sundays): ₹30,000 a month with 2 full days of unpaid leave. On a fixed 30-day basis one day is ₹1,000 and the deduction ₹2,000, leaving ₹28,000. By calendar days (÷ 31) one day is ₹967.74 and you keep ₹28,064.52; by 26 days it is ₹1,153.85 and you keep ₹27,692.31; by the 27 working days, ₹1,111.11 and ₹27,777.78. Add one half day on the 26-day basis and the LOP becomes 2.5 days: ₹2,884.62 deducted, ₹27,115.38 paid.

Loss of pay calculation in India: which divisor?

  • Calendar days (28–31): weekly offs are paid days, so the rate changes every month. Common in IT and services payroll.
  • Fixed 30 days: the same rate every month; easy to explain, slightly generous in 31-day months.
  • Fixed 26 days: a month of 30 days minus four weekly offs; common in factories, shops and for daily-rated staff. Pair it with counting only working days as LOP.
  • Working days in the month: the exact days you were required to work, after weekly offs and holidays.
  • The law sets the ceiling, not the divisor: under the Code on Wages, 2019 (in force from 21 November 2025), s.20 allows a deduction for absence only in proportion to the period you were absent out of the days you were required to work in that wage period. Some states fix the divisor for minimum wages — see the minimum wage calculator.

Per day salary in the UAE

The UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Art 67) counts a month as 30 days and a year as 365 days when calculating periods, so most employers use monthly salary ÷ 30 for a day’s pay: AED 12,000 ÷ 30 = AED 400, and three days of unpaid leave cost AED 1,200. A few use monthly × 12 ÷ 365 (AED 394.52). Whether the basic salary or the full wage with allowances is used depends on your contract and the purpose — leave salary and end-of-service gratuity have their own rules, covered by the UAE leave salary calculator and the end of service calculator.

Running payroll for a whole team? The payroll calculator applies LOP days to PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS, and the staff salary register counts LOP days from a monthly attendance grid. For joiners and leavers part-way through a month, try the pro rata salary calculator.

Per Day Salary Calculator FAQ

How is per day salary calculated?

Divide the monthly salary by your employer’s divisor: calendar days in the month, 30, 26 or the working days. ₹30,000 ÷ 30 = ₹1,000 a day; ÷ 26 = ₹1,153.85.

What is the LOP calculation formula?

LOP deduction = monthly salary ÷ divisor × unpaid days. A half day counts as 0.5. Salary for the month = monthly salary − LOP deduction.

Is salary per day calculated on 26 or 30 days?

Either, by company policy or state rule. 26 days excludes Sundays and is used with working days; 30 days and calendar days include weekly offs.

Are Sundays counted in loss of pay?

On the calendar or 30-day basis a weekly off between two days of unpaid leave may be counted if your policy says so (the “sandwich rule”). On the 26-day or working-day basis only working days are counted. Check your HR policy.

How is per day salary calculated in the UAE?

Usually monthly salary ÷ 30, because the Labour Law counts a month as 30 days. Some employers use monthly × 12 ÷ 365.

Is LOP deducted from gross or basic salary?

In India it is normally deducted from gross pay, and PF and ESI then fall with the lower earnings. Your policy may say otherwise.
