A free online photo editor that keeps your pictures on your device

This online photo editor covers the edits most photos need in one place: fix exposure and colour, try a filter, crop to a social-media shape, straighten a tilted horizon, then add text, arrows, shapes, emoji stickers or a logo on top. Every change is non-destructive — the original pixels are kept, and adjustments, crop and layers are re-applied each time you preview or export, so you can go back and change anything until you download.

All processing runs in your browser with the canvas API. The photo is not uploaded, there is no account and nothing is added to your picture. That makes it suitable for family photos, ID scans, product shots and screenshots that should not leave your computer or phone.

How to use the Photo Editor

  1. Drop a photo on the upload area, click to choose one, or paste an image with Ctrl+V.
  2. In Adjust, move the exposure, brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows, saturation, warmth, tint, vignette, sharpen and blur sliders. In Filters, pick a look from the thumbnails and set its strength.
  3. In Crop, choose an aspect ratio, drag the frame’s corners or edges, rotate by 90°, flip, or use Straighten for small tilts.
  4. In Layers, add text, a shape, an emoji sticker or another image. Drag it on the photo, pull a corner to resize and the round handle to rotate; set opacity, blend mode and order.
  5. Use Before / after to compare, Undo/Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y) to step back, then pick a format and size in Export and press “Download photo”.

What each adjustment does

Highlights and shadows here are a global tone curve rather than the local tone mapping found in desktop raw editors, so they cannot pull detail out of a sky that is already pure white. For strong local fixes, edit the original raw file in a dedicated application first.

SliderHow it is calculatedUse it for
Exposuremultiplies every channel by 2^(value ÷ 50) — ±2 stops at the endsunder- or over-exposed shots
Brightnessadds up to ±60 levelssmall overall lifts
Contraststretches values around mid-grey (×0.1 to ×2.5)flat, hazy pictures
Highlights / Shadowsadds a lift weighted by luminance² (highlights) or (1 − luminance)² (shadows)recovering skies, opening dark faces
Saturationscales each pixel’s distance from its own grey valuemuted or over-colourful photos
Warmth / Tintshifts red against blue, and green against magentaindoor yellow cast, fluorescent green cast
Vignettedarkens (or whitens) towards the corners with a smooth curvedrawing the eye to the centre
Sharpen / Blurunsharp mask / three-pass box blur approximating a Gaussiansoft focus, or a dreamy background

Tips for better edits

  • Work in the order a photographer would: crop and straighten, then exposure and contrast, then colour, then filters, and finally text or stickers.
  • Keep saturation moderate — skin turns orange quickly. Warmth +10 to +20 often does more for a portrait than saturation.
  • For social posts, crop to 4:5 or 1:1 and export a long side of 1080 px; for print, export PNG or JPG at 100% quality.
  • Blend modes are handy for logos: Multiply drops a white background, Screen drops a black one.
  • To shrink the file afterwards, run it through the Image Compressor; for one-click looks on many photos, see Image Filters. Captions in the classic top-and-bottom style are quicker in the Meme Generator.

Photo Editor FAQ

Is this online photo editor really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of photos. It works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The image is decoded and edited in your browser’s memory and the download is produced on your device. Closing the tab discards everything.

Can I undo after exporting?

Yes. Exporting does not change the edit, so you can keep adjusting and download again. History is lost only when you open another photo or close the page.

Why do text colours look slightly different in a JPG?

JPG compresses colour detail, which softens sharp coloured edges such as text. Export PNG for graphics with crisp text, or raise the JPG quality to 95–100.

What is the largest photo I can edit?

Previews are drawn at up to 1,200 px for speed; exports use the full resolution up to 8,192 px on the long side and about 50 megapixels, which covers almost every phone and camera.

Does it keep EXIF data such as location?

No. The exported file is a fresh image without camera or GPS metadata, which is useful before sharing online. The EXIF Viewer shows what an original contains.
