Percentile to Rank Calculator

Estimate your rank from an NTA-style percentile and the number of candidates, or turn a rank back into a percentile.

Estimate, not an official result. Ranks here come from the formula rank ≈ (100 − percentile) × candidates ÷ 100 with official candidate counts. Your real rank is the one on your NTA or CET Cell scorecard; ties, category lists and best-of-two-sessions rules can move it.
Edit it for another year or exam — the menu switches to “any other exam”.
Up to 7 decimals, as printed on the scorecard.

Percentile to rank calculator using official candidate counts

This percentile to rank calculator estimates your rank from the percentile (NTA score) on your scorecard and the number of candidates who appeared. It also works the other way, from a rank to a percentile, and from the raw count NTA itself uses. Candidate counts for JEE Main 2026 (all candidates, each session and each April shift), NEET (UG) 2026, every CUET (UG) 2026 subject and MHT CET 2026 PCM and PCB are built in, copied from the official result notices, and you can type any other number for UGC NET, a later year or another exam.

It answers questions like “what is my JEE Main rank at 99 percentile” or “what percentile do I need for a rank under 10,000”, and shows a full percentile vs rank table for the exam you pick. Everything is calculated in your browser.

How to use the Percentile to Rank Converter (JEE Main, NEET, CUET, MHT CET)

  1. Pick the conversion: Percentile → rank, Rank → percentile or Score count → percentile.
  2. Choose the exam in Exam and candidates who appeared. The number of candidates fills in from the official notice; edit it for another year or exam.
  3. Type your percentile (all seven decimals if you have them), the rank, or the count of candidates who scored equal to or below you.
  4. Read the estimated rank or percentile, how many candidates are ahead of you, and the percentile vs rank table below.
  5. For JEE Main all-candidates, compare your percentile with the 2026 JEE (Advanced) cut-offs in the table that appears.

Percentile to Rank Converter (JEE Main, NEET, CUET, MHT CET) features

Official 2026 counts

JEE Main 15,38,468 unique candidates (13,04,653 in January, 10,34,330 in April, plus all nine April shifts), NEET 19,99,895, CUET subject-wise, MHT CET PCM 4,54,069 and PCB 2,63,213.

Three directions

Percentile to rank, rank to percentile, and the NTA definition itself: candidates at or below your score ÷ candidates who appeared.

JEE Advanced check

Shows the 2026 category cut-off NTA scores (UR 93.4123549, EWS 82.4164528, OBC-NCL 80.9232583, SC 63.9172792, ST 52.0174712) next to your percentile.

Indian number format

Ranks and counts are written as 15,38,468, the way the notices print them.

The formulas

NTA defines the percentile in each shift as 100 × candidates with a raw score equal to or less than yours ÷ candidates who appeared in the shift, calculated to seven decimals. The State CET Cell uses the same definition for MHT CET. Turning that around, the share of candidates above you is 100 − percentile, so rank ≈ (100 − P) × N ÷ 100 and P ≈ 100 × (N − rank) ÷ N.

Worked example: JEE Main 2026 had 15,38,468 unique candidates. At 99 percentile, (100 − 99) × 15,38,468 ÷ 100 = 15,384.68, so the estimated CRL is about 15,385. As a check against official numbers, the 2026 UR cut-off of 93.4123549 gives (100 − 93.4123549) × 15,38,468 ÷ 100 ≈ 1,01,349, while NTA’s eligible UR list had 96,873 + 4,391 (UR-PwBD) = 1,01,264 candidates — within 0.1 %.

Why the real rank can differ

  • Normalisation by shift: each shift’s percentiles are computed separately, so the same percentile in two shifts does not mean exactly the same position overall.
  • Best of two sessions: JEE Main merit uses each candidate’s better NTA score from January and April, so the pool for the CRL is the 15,38,468 unique candidates, not the sum of both sessions.
  • Ties: many candidates can share a percentile; NTA breaks ties by subject scores and accuracy, which can move you a few places.
  • Category rank: a category rank counts only candidates of that category, so it is much smaller than the common rank list position shown here.
  • CUET: universities rank by normalised scores in their own subject combinations; a subject percentile only tells you where you stand among that subject’s candidates.

Percentile is not percentage

A percentile compares you with other candidates; a percentage compares your marks with the maximum. 99 percentile in JEE Main means 99 % of your shift scored the same as or less than you — it can correspond to very different marks in different shifts. To work out marks first, use the marks calculator with negative marking; for an estimate of the percentile from marks, see the JEE Main marks vs percentile and NEET marks vs rank tools.

Percentile to Rank Converter (JEE Main, NEET, CUET, MHT CET) FAQ

How is rank calculated from percentile?

Rank ≈ (100 − percentile) × number of candidates ÷ 100. With 15,38,468 JEE Main 2026 candidates, 95 percentile gives about 76,923 and 99.5 gives about 7,692.

What is the JEE Main percentile vs rank for 2026?

Choose “All candidates” for JEE Main 2026 and read the table: 99.9 percentile ≈ rank 1,538, 99 ≈ 15,385, 98 ≈ 30,769, 95 ≈ 76,923, 90 ≈ 1,53,847. These are estimates; your CRL is on the NTA scorecard.

Can I use this as an MHT CET percentile to rank calculator?

Yes, choose PCM (4,54,069 candidates) or PCB (2,63,213) for 2026. The CET Cell’s state merit rank counts only candidates eligible for the Maharashtra merit list, so it is usually better than this all-candidate estimate.

Does the calculator work for UGC NET or another exam?

Yes. Select “any other exam” and type the number of candidates who appeared in that subject or session, then enter your percentile.

Why does my percentile have seven decimals?

NTA calculates percentiles to seven decimal places to reduce ties. Enter all of them for the closest estimate.

Is the estimated rank official?

No. It is a formula-based estimate. Only the scorecard or merit list from NTA, the State CET Cell or the counselling body is official.
