Convert CGPA to percentage with your university’s own rule
This CGPA to percentage converter gives the percentage equivalent of your Cumulative Grade Point Average using the rule your board or university actually prescribes. Besides the CBSE rule (CGPA × 9.5) and the common general formulas, it has named presets for SPPU, VTU, Anna University, Delhi University, IPU, KTU, AKTU and GTU, each taken from the university’s own regulation or circular and linked under the result, plus a custom multiplier and offset for any other marksheet.
You can also go the other way (percentage to CGPA) to see what CGPA a cut-off such as 60% requires, and combine semester SGPAs into a credit-weighted CGPA. A comparison table shows the main formulas side by side; a converted percentage is an estimate, and only your institution can certify an official equivalent. For a full semester-by-semester planner, use the SGPA to CGPA calculator.
How to use the CGPA to Percentage Converter
- Choose the conversion at the top: CGPA → %, % → CGPA or SGPA → CGPA.
- Pick your university from “University rules”, or a general formula. If your marksheet prints its own rule (for example “Percentage = 7.1 × CGPI + 11”), choose Custom and enter the multiplier and offset.
- Type your CGPA or percentage. For SGPA → CGPA, enter each semester’s SGPA and, ideally, its credits.
- Read the result, the worked formula and the source line, then check the comparison table.
- Press “Copy result” to paste the conversion into a form or email.
CGPA to Percentage Converter features
Official university presets
Eleven rules from SPPU, VTU, Anna, DU, IPU, KTU, AKTU and GTU documents, each with its circular or clause linked.
Grade-banded rules
SPPU’s 2019-20 CBCS rule uses a different equation for each final grade; the converter picks the band and shows it.
Honest gaps
Where a university’s current rule could not be confirmed from its own documents (Mumbai University), it says so instead of guessing.
Reverse conversion
The CGPA needed for a percentage, with a warning when a rule can never reach it — (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 tops out at 92.5%.
Custom formula and SGPA to CGPA
Any CGPA × multiplier + offset rule, and a credit-weighted SGPA average.

SPPU’s grade-banded formula
Circular 332/2020 applies to CBCS degree courses in all faculties of affiliated colleges from 2019-20. The equation depends on the final grade: O (CGPA 9.50–10.00) 20 × CGPA − 100; A+ (8.25–9.49) 12 × CGPA − 25; A (6.75–8.24) 10 × CGPA − 7.5; B+ (5.75–6.74) 5 × CGPA + 26.25; B (5.25–5.74) and C (4.75–5.24) 10 × CGPA − 2.5; D (4.00–4.74) 6.6 × CGPA + 13.6. Bands as printed on SPPU 2019-pattern result sheets; programmes that print their own rule (for example newer NEP syllabi) follow that rule.
Where the CBSE 9.5 multiplier comes from
Under the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme, CBSE Class 10 marksheets showed a CGPA instead of marks, and CBSE said an “indicative” percentage is the CGPA × 9.5. Students in the top band (grade A1, grade point 10) had averaged about 95 marks, so each grade point was treated as worth 9.5 percentage points: 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8%. CBSE always called this indicative, not the student’s actual aggregate.
Check your own rule
- A formula printed on your marksheet or in your examination ordinance overrides any general formula, including the ones here.
- Rules change between schemes: VTU moved from (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 to CGPA × 10 for its 2022 scheme, and KTU dropped the − 2.5 for its 2019 B.Tech scheme in June 2023.
- If no formula exists, ask the examination section for an equivalence certificate — many employers and foreign universities accept only that.
- For a 4.0-scale GPA there is no official percentage formula; GPA ÷ 4 × 100 is only a rough guide. Use the GPA calculator for a US-style GPA.
CGPA to Percentage Converter FAQ
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
Multiply by the factor your board or university prescribes. For CBSE, percentage = CGPA × 9.5, so 8.0 becomes 76%. Under VTU’s 2015–2021 schemes, percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, so 8.0 becomes 72.5%. Pick your rule above and the converter shows the working.
What is the SPPU CGPA to percentage formula?
For CBCS degree courses from 2019-20, SPPU Circular 332/2020 uses a different equation for each final grade. A CGPA of 8.4 is grade A+, so the percentage is 12 × 8.4 − 25 = 75.8%. Choose the SPPU preset to apply the right band automatically.
What is the DU or IPU CGPA to percentage formula?
Delhi University’s February 2023 notification sets Grand CGPA × 10 for students graduating from 2022-23; its 2019 PG CBCS rule is CGPA × 9.5. GGSIPU’s Ordinance 11 treats CGPA × 10 as the percentage.
What is the Mumbai University CGPI to percentage formula?
We could not confirm Mumbai University’s current rule in the university’s own circulars, so this converter does not compute it. If your grade card prints a formula such as 7.1 × CGPI + 11, enter those numbers under Custom.
How do I convert percentage to CGPA?
Reverse the formula. For CBSE, CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5, so 76% needs 8.0. For (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, CGPA = percentage ÷ 10 + 0.75, so 60% needs 6.75.
How do I calculate CGPA from SGPA?
Multiply each semester’s SGPA by its credits, add them up and divide by the total credits. If every semester carries the same credits, a simple average gives the same answer. To turn raw marks into a percentage, use the marks percentage calculator.
