Kaal Sarp Dosh Calculator

Checks whether all seven planets sit on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis, full or partial, and names the type.

Full Kaal Sarp · Takshak (by degrees)

All seven planets, Sun to Saturn, lie in the half of the zodiac that runs from Rahu (Aquarius 28°00′) forward to Ketu (Leo 28°00′), so this chart meets the full Kaal Sarp rule (counted by degrees). With Rahu in the 7th house from a Leo lagna, the type is called Takshak.

Everyone born from 18 Jun 2025 15:44 to 1 Jul 2025 10:53 (local time) has this same pattern, because only the Moon moves quickly. For context, about 7% of all birth moments meet the full rule and about 27% the partial one, counted by degrees.

⚠ Mars shares a sign with Ketu. Counting by signs instead of degrees can change the verdict — switch “Count by” to compare.

Kaal Sarp is a traditional pattern, not a measurement of a person or a forecast. It is not found in the classical texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and astrologers disagree about it. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice, and it offers no remedies. Everything is computed in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Kaal sarp dosh calculator: what it checks and what it means

This free kaal sarp dosh calculator checks the Kaal Sarp (Kala Sarpa) pattern in a Vedic birth chart. From the date, time and place of birth it computes the sidereal positions of the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn and of the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu, then asks one geometric question: do all seven planets fall in the same half of the zodiac, between Rahu and Ketu? It reports the result as full, partial or not formed, names the type by Rahu’s house, and shows every planet’s distance from the axis.

The kaal sarp dosh meaning in plain terms: Rahu and Ketu are always exactly opposite, so they cut the zodiac into two halves, and the pattern is just all seven planets landing in one of them. Because the slow planets set the scene for weeks at a time, it is common — about 7% of all birth moments meet the full rule and roughly another quarter the partial one. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice, and it offers no remedies.

How to use the Kaal Sarp Dosh Calculator

  1. Enter the Date of birth and Time of birth, or tick Birth time unknown.
  2. Choose the Birth place or type the coordinates; the Time zone fills in and handles historical offsets.
  3. Pick Count by: degrees (exact longitudes) or signs, where a planet in Rahu’s or Ketu’s sign counts as inside. Leave Rahu on the mean node unless you follow the true node.
  4. Read the three panels — full, partial or not formed; the type; and the Rahu–Ketu axis — then the sentence below them for the reasoning and the dates that share the pattern.
  5. Check Where each planet falls for the distances, switch the chart between North and South Indian style, and copy the result or download the chart.

Kaal Sarp Dosh Calculator features

Full, partial and Kaal Amrit

All seven on the Rahu-to-Ketu side, all seven on the Ketu-to-Rahu side (called Kaal Amrit by some), or six with one outside (partial).

Degrees or signs

The two counting rules astrologers use when a planet shares a sign with a node, side by side, with a warning when they disagree.

The 12 named types

Anant to Sheshnag from Rahu’s whole-sign house counted from the lagna.

How common it is

The run of dates and times that share the same pattern, so you can see it is a property of the sky for days, not of one person.

Without birth time

The whole day is scanned; the tool says whether the Moon changed the verdict during that date and when.

How the check works

Every planet’s sidereal longitude (Lahiri ayanamsa) is measured forward from Rahu. A distance under 180° puts the planet on the Rahu-to-Ketu side; over 180°, on the Ketu-to-Rahu side. Seven on one side is the full pattern; six with one outside is what calculators usually publish as partial (ardha) Kaal Sarp. In the sign rule a planet in Rahu’s or Ketu’s own sign counts as inside, which is why a chart can be full by signs but only partial by degrees.

Worked example: in Jawaharlal Nehru’s chart (14 November 1889, 23:11, Allahabad, as published on ganeshaspeaks.com) Ketu is at 12°43′ and Jupiter at 15°10′ of Sagittarius. By degrees Jupiter is about 2½° past Ketu, so six planets are hemmed and the pattern is partial; by signs Jupiter shares Ketu’s sign and the pattern is full. Rahu is in Gemini, the 12th house from a Cancer lagna, so the type is Sheshnag. The two answers show why websites disagree about famous charts.

Why it is common, and where the rule comes from

Jupiter and Saturn take 12 and 29 years to circle the zodiac and the nodes 18.6 years, so for months at a time the slow planets sit in one half and only the Moon, passing every 27 days, decides the result. That gives runs of about two weeks in which every birth meets the rule, roughly once a month in those seasons. In a simulation of 20,000 random birth moments from 1900 to 2050 with this engine, about 7% met the full rule (half of them in each direction) and about 27% the partial one, counted by degrees; counted by signs the figures rise to about 15% and 38%.

The pattern is not described in the classical texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra or Phaladeepika; it appears in later writing, and sources disagree on the boundary rules, on Kaal Amrit and on whether it matters at all. The type names and house list follow the learning pages of dekhopanchang.com and onlinejyotish.com (checked 19 October 2026). For the full chart see the kundli generator; the mangal dosha calculator checks another commonly discussed rule.

Kaal Sarp Dosh Calculator FAQ

How do I use the kaal sarp dosh calculator?

Enter the date, time and place of birth. The tool computes the planets and Rahu–Ketu, shows whether all seven lie on one side (full), six do (partial) or neither, and names the type from Rahu’s house.

What is the kaal sarp dosh meaning?

It is the name for a chart in which the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn all fall between Rahu and Ketu, the two lunar nodes. It describes positions only; it says nothing measurable about a person.

What is partial kaal sarp?

Six planets on one side and one outside. Some astrologers also call it partial when a planet shares a sign with Rahu or Ketu but lies outside by degree; switch Count by to see both answers.

Can I check kaal sarp dosh without a birth time?

Yes for the verdict on most days, because only the Moon moves fast enough to change it. The type needs the lagna, so it needs the time.

Is this an astrology dosha calculator for marriage?

It checks one pattern only. For the Mars rule used in matching see the mangal dosha calculator; for guna milan, kundli matching.

Does this tool suggest remedies?

No. It describes a traditional pattern and how often it occurs. It gives no predictions, remedies or advice.
