Gold rate calculator with making charges, wastage and GST
The price on a jewellery bill is never just weight × today’s gold rate. This gold rate calculator with making charges rebuilds the bill the way Indian jewellers write it: the gold value for the purity you are buying (22K, 18K, 14K or 24K), wastage or value addition if the shop adds it, making charges as a percentage, an amount per gram or a fixed fee, stones, other charges and 3% GST. It works for silver too — per gram, per 10 g, per kilogram, per tola or per troy ounce.
If you are trading in old jewellery, tick the exchange box: the calculator values the old piece at its purity and today’s (or the shop’s buy-back) rate, takes off the exchange deduction and shows the balance you pay. There are no live prices here — type in today’s rate from your jeweller or a published bullion rate, and the result is exact for that rate.

Gold & Silver Jewellery Price Calculator features
Three ways to read the rate
24K rate scaled by purity % (22K = 91.6%), by fine metal (916 ÷ 999), or the rate for your purity as displayed in the shop.
Every hallmark grade
Gold 24K 999/995, 23K, 22K, 20K, 18K, 14K, 9K and 21K (Gulf); silver 999 to 800, or any fineness.
Making, wastage and stones
Making as %, per gram or per piece; wastage added on top; stone weight deducted from the gold and stone value added.
Old-gold exchange
Credit for old jewellery with a deduction and an optional buy-back rate, and GST on the full price or the balance.
Unit choice
Rates per gram, 10 g, kilogram, tola (11.66 g) or troy ounce (31.10 g).
How a jewellery price is calculated
Price = (net weight × rate per gram × purity) + wastage + making + stones + other charges + GST. With 24K at ₹1,20,000 per 10 g (₹12,000 a gram), 22K is ₹12,000 × 91.6% = ₹10,992 a gram. A 10 g chain is ₹1,09,920 of gold; making at 12% adds ₹13,190.40; GST of 3% on ₹1,23,110.40 is ₹3,693.31, so the bill is ₹1,26,803.71 — ₹12,680 a gram. Exchanging 8 g of old 22K gold with a 2% deduction gives a credit of ₹86,177.28 and a balance of ₹40,626.43.
For a loan against gold rather than a purchase, use the gold loan calculator; for other GST sums, the GST calculator.
Hallmark purity table
Gold grades are from IS 1417 (9K was added in July 2025); silver grades 999, 990, 970, 958, 925, 835 and 800 are from IS 2112:2025, with HUID marking for silver from 1 September 2025. Every hallmarked piece carries a six-character HUID you can check in the BIS Care app.

GST on gold and making charges (India, October 2026)
Gold, silver and jewellery attract 3% GST (Notification 1/2017-Central Tax (Rate), Schedule V); the GST Council left the rate unchanged in its September 2025 rate rationalisation. The CBIC FAQ on gems and jewellery says GST is payable at 3% of the total transaction value of jewellery, whether the making charge is shown separately or not. The 5% rate applies to job work — making charges paid to a job worker who turns supplied gold into jewellery. Both rates are editable, as is the VAT for other countries (in the UAE, VAT applies to jewellery and to making charges). Practice differs on old-gold exchange: some bills charge GST on the full price of the new piece, others only on the balance — choose the one on your bill.
Gold & Silver Jewellery Price Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate the price of 22K gold with making charges?
Multiply the weight by the 24K rate per gram and by 91.6% for the gold value, add the making charge (for example 12% of the gold value) and then 3% GST on the total. The gold rate calculator shows each line.
How are gold making charges calculated?
As a percentage of the gold value, as an amount per gram, or as a fixed amount per piece — the jeweller decides. Machine-made chains are usually cheaper to make than hand-made or antique designs.
Is GST charged on making charges?
Yes. According to the CBIC FAQ, 3% GST applies to the full value of the jewellery, including making charges, even if they are shown separately on the bill.
How do I calculate the silver price per gram?
Divide the rate per kilogram by 1,000 and multiply by the purity — 925 sterling is 92.5%. At ₹1,50,000 a kg, 925 silver is ₹138.75 a gram before making and GST.
How much will I get for old gold in exchange?
Weight × today’s rate × purity, less the shop’s deduction. 8 g of 22K at ₹12,000 a gram for 24K with a 2% deduction is about ₹86,177.
Does this calculator show live gold rates?
No. Rates change through the day and differ between cities and shops, so you type in the rate you are quoted. The result is an estimate, not investment advice.
