GIF to JPG Converter

Turn GIFs into JPG images — the first frame as a still, or every frame of an animation as separate JPGs.

Drop GIF files here or click to choose .gif files · animated or still · decoded on your device
Each frame is saved as it appears on screen.
85–92% looks identical to the eye at a fraction of the size.
Fills transparent areas — JPG can’t store transparency.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Convert a GIF to JPG — one still or every frame

Plenty of places that accept photos still refuse GIFs: application portals, some marketplaces, print services and older content systems. Animated GIFs are also awkward as thumbnails or previews. This GIF to JPG converter turns a GIF into a regular JPG — either a single still of the first frame, or every frame of the animation as its own JPG.

Frames are rebuilt exactly as a browser shows them. Animated GIFs often store only the part of the picture that changes from one frame to the next, so the raw frames would be strips and fragments; here each JPG is a complete picture. Because JPG can’t be transparent, you choose the colour that fills transparent areas. Decoding happens in your browser, with no upload.

How to convert GIF to JPG

    1. Drop one or more .gif files on the upload area, or click to choose them.
    2. Under Frames, keep First frame only for a single still, or choose Every frame.
    3. Pick a Background colour for transparent areas and set the JPG quality.
    4. Look through the previews. Each card shows the frame number and how long it stays on screen; untick frames you don’t want.
    5. Download a single JPG, or press Download all as ZIP.

    GIF to JPG Converter features

    Complete frames, not fragments

Partial updates, transparency and the GIF disposal rules are applied, so every JPG matches what the animation showed at that moment.

First frame or all of them

Grab a quick still, or extract a whole animation for editing, storyboards or slides.

    Your choice of background

Transparent pixels are filled with white or any colour you pick, instead of turning black.

    Frame timing shown

Each card lists the frame number and its display time, which helps you pick the right moment.

    Built-in GIF decoder

A small decoder reads every frame, including interlaced files, rather than relying on the browser’s image element, which only hands over one frame.

    Private

No upload, no watermark and no account.

GIF vs JPG: why the conversion changes the look

GIF stores at most 256 colours per frame and compresses them losslessly with LZW. That suits logos, pixel art and screen recordings with flat colours, but it makes photos look grainy or banded. JPG has millions of colours and lossy compression tuned for photographs. Converting a GIF to JPG can’t add colours the GIF never had, but it gives you a file that every photo field and printer accepts.

For flat graphics with sharp edges, JPG compression can leave faint smudges around lines and text. If you want those edges perfect, the GIF to PNG converter keeps them exact.

How animated GIF frames are rebuilt

Each frame of an animated GIF tells the viewer what to do with it before the next one is drawn. This is called the disposal method, and the converter follows it exactly:

Disposal methodWhat happens before the next frame
0 – not specifiedThe frame stays; the next one is drawn on top
1 – do not disposeThe frame stays; the next one is drawn on top
2 – restore to backgroundThe frame’s area is cleared to transparent
3 – restore to previousThe area returns to how it looked before this frame

Frame delays are stored in hundredths of a second. Browsers play delays of 0 or 1 hundredth as 0.1 s, and the timing on each card follows the same rule.

    Tips

    • Long animations can have hundreds of frames. Extract every frame, then untick the ones you don’t need before downloading the ZIP.
    • To make a GIF from a video clip instead, use Video to GIF.
    • Need the frames in a document? Combine the JPGs with JPG to PDF.
    • For a smaller animated file rather than stills, convert the GIF to animated WebP with GIF to WebP.

    GIF to JPG Converter FAQ

How do I convert a GIF to JPG?

Drop the GIF onto this page, keep “First frame only” and press the Download button. For animations, choose “Every frame” to get one JPG per frame.

    Can a JPG be animated?

No. A JPG holds a single image, so an animated GIF becomes either one still or a set of separate JPGs. For an animated format that is usually smaller than GIF, use animated WebP.

Why does my GIF’s transparent background turn white?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels must be filled with a colour. White is the default; pick any other colour under “Background colour”.

Which frame is used for the still image?

The first frame of the animation, exactly as it first appears on screen. To get a different moment, choose “Every frame” and download just that card.

Why do my frames look different from other tools?

Many tools save the raw data of each frame, which in optimised GIFs covers only the area that changed. This converter composes each frame onto the previous ones as a browser does, so every JPG is the full picture.

    Is it safe to use?

Yes. GIFs are decoded and converted in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
