Hanafi: ½ ṣāʿ of wheat or flour, or 1 ṣāʿ of barley, dates or raisins; this page uses 1 ṣāʿ ≈ 3.266 kg — Darul Ifta, Darul Uloom Deoband, fatwa 626/756/SN=7/1438: half a ṣāʿ = 1,633 g of wheat (a full ṣāʿ taken as twice that, 3,266 g). Rate: Fiqh Council of North America (USA), $ 10.00 per person, as of 7 February 2026 — FCNA, “Amount of Fidyah and Zakāt al-Fiṭr” — about $6 for one ṣāʿ, recommended as $10 out of caution. The Hanafi school allows giving the value of the food in money (General Iftaa’ Department of Jordan, fatwa 4164).

Zakat al-fitr is separate from zakat on savings (see the zakat calculator). Schools differ on the measure, on cash and on timing; this page shows the methods and sources and is not a fatwa. Confirm the amount with your local scholar or mosque, and give it before the Eid prayer.

Fitrana calculator: zakat al-fitr per person and for the household

This fitrana calculator works out zakat al-fitr (sadaqat al-fitr, fitra) — the payment made for each member of the household before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Choose your school and the number of people you pay for, and the page shows the food each person’s fitrana stands for in kilograms, for every permitted food at once: wheat, wheat flour (atta), barley, dates and raisins, plus rice in schools that use the local staple.

Then value it the way your community does: with the price of a kilogram of each food where you live, with a dated rate published by a named authority, or with an amount your mosque has announced. The per-food table works like the lists many councils publish — wheat as the minimum, dates or raisins for those who can give more.

Schools and communities differ on the measure, the foods and whether money may be given. This page shows each method and its source; it is not a fatwa. Confirm with your local scholar or mosque.

How to use the Fitrana Calculator

  1. Pick your School (madhhab) and enter the People you pay for.
  2. Check Weight of one ṣāʿ. It is filled in from a named authority; overwrite it if your mosque uses another figure.
  3. Choose Value it by: a dated Authority rate, Local food prices (a price per kg for each food) or My amount per person.
  4. With local prices, choose the Food you give; the table shows every food for the household so you can compare.
  5. Press Copy result, and give the fitrana before the Eid prayer.

How much fitrana per person?

The ṣāʿ is a measure of volume — four mudd — so its weight depends on the grain and on the conversion an authority uses. FCNA weighs one ṣāʿ at 5.40 lb (2.45 kg) of rice, 4.00 lb (1.81 kg) of wheat flour and 4.63 lb (2.10 kg) of dates; Jordan’s Iftaa’ Department uses about 2.5 kg of wheat. In the Hanafi school, where wheat and flour are given at half a ṣāʿ, Darul Uloom Deoband gives 1,633 g for that half.

Worked example, cash and timing

A Hanafi family of four in Lahore giving by wheat flour at an example price of Rs 120 a kilogram pays 4 × 1.633 kg × 120 = Rs 783.84; giving by dates at Rs 800 a kilogram, 4 × 3.266 kg × 800 = Rs 10,451.20. A family of four in the USA using the FCNA’s 2026 recommendation pays 4 × $10 = $40.

The Hanafi school allows giving the value in money, and many councils publish a cash figure. The Shafi‘i, Maliki and Hanbali schools hold that the food itself is given, which charities can buy and hand out for you. Most authorities ask that fitrana reach those in need before the Eid prayer, and the schools differ on how early in Ramadan it may be paid.

Rates announced by other bodies, such as Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology or the UAE, are not preset here because they could not be confirmed on the authority’s own website; enter them with My amount. For fasts that cannot be made up, see the fidya calculator; for zakat on savings and gold, the zakat calculator; for Eid times, the prayer times page.

Fitrana Calculator FAQ

How much is fitrana in 2026?

It depends on the food and your local price. FCNA recommends $10 a person in the USA, the Islamic Foundation of Ireland €9 and Jordan JD 1.800. Elsewhere, multiply the measure by your local price — the fitrana calculator does this for each food.

Fitrana kitna hai — how much wheat per person?

In the Hanafi school, half a ṣāʿ of wheat or atta: 1.633 kg using Darul Uloom Deoband’s figure. Other conversions give between about 1.6 and 2 kg.

Who must pay zakat al-fitr?

Each Muslim who can afford it pays for themselves and their dependants. The schools differ on the threshold: the Hanafi school ties it to owning the nisab, the others to having more than the day’s needs.

Can fitrana be paid in cash?

In the Hanafi school, yes. The other Sunni schools prefer food, though many councils publish a cash value that charities convert into food.

Is fitrana the same as zakat?

No. Zakat al-fitr is a fixed amount per person at the end of Ramadan; zakat on wealth is 2.5% of savings above the nisab.

When should fitrana be paid?

Before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Whether it may be given earlier in Ramadan differs between schools.
