A zakat calculator for gold, silver, cash and investments
This zakat calculator adds up your zakatable wealth — cash, bank balances, gold and silver, shares, business stock and money owed to you — takes off debts that are due, and compares the result with the nisab. If your wealth is at or above the nisab and you have held it for a lunar year, zakat is 2.5% of the total.
It works in any currency: Indian rupees, UAE dirhams, pounds, dollars, riyals and more. You type in today’s gold and silver prices, so the nisab is always current, and the page shows every assumption it makes because schools of thought differ. Nothing is uploaded. It is a guide to help you prepare, not a religious ruling.
How to use the Zakat Calculator
- Choose your currency and enter today’s price of one gram of 24-carat gold and one gram of fine silver.

- Enter cash, bank balances, gold and silver by weight and purity, investments and money owed to you.
- Decide whether worn jewellery and future loan instalments count, following the view you follow.
- Enter debts due now and read the zakat due, the nisab values and the step-by-step working.

How zakat is worked out
Zakat is due on wealth above the nisab that you have owned for one full lunar year (the hawl). The nisab comes from the hadith: 20 dinars (mithqal) of gold or 200 dirhams of silver, commonly taken today as 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver. Zakat = 2.5% × (zakatable assets − debts due). Some people who keep accounts on the Gregorian calendar use 2.577%, because a solar year is about 11 days longer.
Worked example (India): cash ₹50,000, bank ₹2,00,000, 10 g of 24-carat gold (₹1,55,660), 20 g of 22-carat jewellery (₹2,85,377), 100 g of silver (₹25,900), shares ₹1,00,000 and ₹25,000 owed to you, less ₹30,000 of bills due = ₹8,11,937. That is above the silver nisab of 612.36 g × ₹259 = ₹1,58,601, so zakat is ₹20,298.
Where scholars differ
If you are unsure, follow the scholar or zakat body you trust. You can check gold value separately with the gold loan calculator, and track your wealth over the year with the net worth calculator.
| Question | Common views |
|---|---|
| Gold or silver nisab? | Silver for cash and mixed assets (more people pay, more recipients helped); gold when you own only gold |
| Jewellery worn regularly | Hanafi: zakatable. Shafi‘i, Maliki, Hanbali: exempt if for normal personal use |
| Long-term shares | Full market value, or only your share of the company’s zakatable assets (often estimated at 25–30%) |
| Debts | Deduct what is due now; for long loans many deduct only the next 12 months’ instalments |
| Pensions | Views vary on funds you cannot yet access — enter accessible amounts under other assets |
Zakat Calculator FAQ
How do I use a zakat calculator on gold?
Enter the weight of your gold and its carat; the calculator values it at today’s 24-carat price × purity and adds it to your other assets. Worn jewellery is included or left out depending on the box you tick.
What is the nisab today?
Multiply 612.36 g by today’s silver price per gram, or 87.48 g by today’s gold price. With silver at ₹259 a gram the silver nisab is about ₹1,58,601; with gold at ₹15,566 a gram the gold nisab is about ₹13,61,714.
Can I use this zakat calculator in UAE dirhams?
Yes. Choose AED, enter local gold and silver prices per gram in dirhams and your amounts in dirhams.
Is zakat calculated on the full value of my house or car?
No. Your home, car, furniture and personal items are not zakatable. Property bought to resell is.
Do I pay zakat on my savings if I am below the nisab?
No. If net zakatable wealth stays below the nisab, no zakat is due on it. Zakat al-fitr is separate.
Is 2.5% the right rate?
Yes for a lunar year. If you calculate on a solar (Gregorian) year, 2.577% keeps the amount equivalent.
