An AI hashtag generator with a rule check behind it
Ask a chatbot for hashtags and you usually get thirty of them, half generic (#viral, #explorepage) and a few that have nothing to do with your post. This AI hashtag generator uses AI for what it is good at — reading a caption or a description of your photo and suggesting topics — and then lets plain rules decide what goes into the set.
Every suggestion is classified: is it in your text, the location you gave, your brand tag, the hand-written niche list (52 niches, from trekking and street food to cricket and weddings), or an AI idea you should check? Engagement bait such as #follow4follow is crossed out, generic tags are never picked automatically, and the set is cut to the platform’s limit — five on Instagram, two on X, three shown on YouTube. Each tag says why it is there.
Suggestions come from your browser’s built-in AI or IBM’s open Granite 4.0 Nano model (Apache-2.0), downloaded only after you agree. Without AI the page uses the same keyword-and-niche extraction as the instant Hashtag Generator, so you always get a set.
How to get hashtags with AI
- Paste the caption, or describe what the picture or video shows if you haven’t written one yet.
- Check the Niche (detected from your text) and add a Location and a Brand or campaign tag if you use them.
- Pick the Platform; its rule appears underneath.
- Press Suggest hashtags with AI (the page asks before any model download) or Hashtags without AI.
- Review Your hashtag set: press + or ✓ on any idea to add or remove it, read the reason under each tag, then Copy set or Save set.
AI Hashtag Generator features
AI ideas, rule-checked
The model suggests up to 15 topic tags; each is matched against your text, the place, your brand and the niche list before it can be picked.
A reason for every tag
“In your text”, “In the Hiking & outdoors niche list”, “Built from the location you gave”, or “AI idea — check it fits”.
Spam patterns removed
Follow-for-follow and like-for-like tags are crossed out; #viral, #fyp, #explorepage and similar generic tags are flagged and never auto-picked; stretched spellings and very long tags are noted.
Platform-sized sets
Instagram 5 (2 from your text, 2 niche, 1 location), X 2, LinkedIn 3, YouTube 3 for the title area, TikTok 5 — with a red warning above Instagram’s limit.
Readable CamelCase
#RajmachiTrek instead of #rajmachitrek: easier to read and spoken correctly by screen readers. Untick it for lower case.
Worked example: a monsoon trek post
Caption: “Sunday trek to Rajmachi fort near Lonavala — 14 km of monsoon trails, waterfalls and mist. Carry a rain jacket and shoes with good grip.”, location Lonavala, brand PuneTrekkers, Instagram, seed 1. Without AI the niche is detected as Hiking & outdoors and the set is #SundayTrek #RajmachiFort #SunriseTrek #WeekendTrek #Lonavala — two tags from the text, two from the niche list and one location tag. “14 km” is dropped (a unit is not a topic) and “Rajmachi fort near Lonavala” is split at “near”.
With AI suggestions such as #RajmachiTrek, #MonsoonTrek, #Lonavala, #SahyadriTrails, #explorepage and #follow4follow, the first three are confirmed by your text and location and lead the set, #SahyadriTrails is kept as an AI idea to check, #explorepage is flagged as generic and #follow4follow is crossed out. On X the same list shrinks to two tags.
Hashtag limits used (checked 14 October 2026)
| Platform | Rule | Set size here |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 5 hashtags per post or reel, caption and comments together (from December 2025) | 5 — red above 5 | |
| X | Recommends no more than 2 per post | 2 |
| No published limit; 3–5 is the usual advice | 3, amber above 5 | |
| YouTube | Up to 3 shown by the title; more than 60 and all are ignored | 3 — red above 60 |
| TikTok | No separate cap; tags count toward the caption length | 5, note above 5 |
AI or instant: which hashtag tool to use
- Use this page when you want ideas beyond the words in your caption — related places, activities or communities — with a check on each one.
- Use the Hashtag Generator when you want an instant, predictable set from your own words, or for Threads topics.
- Write the caption first with the Social Media Caption Generator, check line breaks with the Instagram Caption Formatter, and for YouTube’s separate tag box use the YouTube Tag Generator.
- Neither tool knows which tags are trending or how many posts use them — it has no live platform data and says so.
AI Hashtag Generator FAQ
Is this AI hashtag generator free and private?
Yes. Your caption is read in your browser; suggestions come from your browser’s built-in AI or the open Granite model on your device, or from rules. Nothing is sent to this site, and saved sets stay in your browser.
How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?
At most five per post or reel — Instagram’s limit since December 2025, counting the caption and comments together. Three to five specific tags is what the set aims for.
Can it read my photo?
No — it works from text. Describe the photo in a sentence (“two kayaks on a misty lake at sunrise”) and the AI suggests tags from that description.
Why was an AI suggestion not picked?
Only tags that match your text, location, brand or the niche list are picked automatically, plus AI ideas that share a word with your text. Generic tags (#viral, #explorepage) and engagement bait are never picked. You can still add any idea with +.
Does it show trending or banned hashtags?
No. It has no access to live platform data, so it never claims a tag is trending or banned; it flags patterns that look spammy instead.
