Runs entirely in your browser — videos are never uploaded. The video engine, Mediabunny (MPL-2.0), is downloaded once from a CDN and uses your browser’s own WebCodecs encoders.

Convert any video to Full HD 1080p

1080p — 1920 × 1080 pixels, also called Full HD — is the resolution almost every screen, editor and video site handles comfortably. This 1080p video converter brings a clip to that standard from whatever you have: it scales 4K and 1440p footage down, 720p and odd-sized recordings up, and turns vertical phone videos into 1080 × 1920.

Choose “Keep the shape” and the short side becomes 1,080 pixels while the proportions stay as they were, so a 4:3 clip becomes 1440 × 1080. Choose a “Full frame” option when you need exactly 1920 × 1080 — for a TV, a slideshow editor or a strict upload form — and the tool adds bars, a blurred background or a crop. The conversion runs in your browser with WebCodecs and the open-source Mediabunny library (MPL-2.0).

How to use the 1080p Video Converter

  1. Drop the video on the upload area and check its current resolution in the details panel.
  2. Under Shape, keep “Keep the shape”, or pick “Full frame · bars”, “Full frame · blurred” or “Full frame · crop” for an exact 1920 × 1080 (or 1080 × 1920) frame.
  3. Check the output badge — it also warns when the source is smaller than 1080p and would be upscaled.
  4. Choose MP4 · H.264 for compatibility, or HEVC or AV1 for smaller files, and a quality level.
  5. Press “Convert to 1080p”, wait for 100%, compare Before and After and download.

What 1080p means

A 1080p frame has 1,080 rows of pixels drawn progressively — the whole picture at once rather than in alternating interlaced fields. For a widescreen 16:9 picture that means 1,920 columns, or 2,073,600 pixels in every frame. Other shapes keep the 1,080-pixel short side:

Converting up to 1080p from 720p or lower

When the source is smaller than 1080p, the converter enlarges it with high-quality scaling. That satisfies sites and editors that ask for Full HD, but it cannot recover detail the camera never captured. If you want a genuinely sharper video, start from a higher-resolution original if one exists.

Going the other way — from 4K down to 1080p — is where this tool shines: files get much smaller, play smoothly on older laptops and TVs, and still look crisp. The 4K video converter adds 720p and 1440p targets and HEVC/AV1 guidance for the same job.

Tips for a good Full HD file

  • The frame rate is never changed, so motion stays as smooth as it was recorded.
  • Use “High” quality for sharing and “Very high” for footage you will edit again.
  • For a 1080p slideshow or a TV, “Full frame · blurred” keeps vertical phone clips full-screen without plain black side bars.
  • Need HD instead? Use the 720p video converter; for any other size, the video resolution converter.

1080p Video Converter FAQ

How do I convert a video to 1080p?

Drop it on the page, leave “Keep the shape” selected and press “Convert to 1080p”. A landscape 16:9 video becomes 1920 × 1080; a vertical one becomes 1080 × 1920.

How do I make a video exactly 1920 × 1080?

Choose one of the Full frame options. Bars and blur keep the whole picture inside the 1920 × 1080 frame; crop fills it and lets you drag the preview to choose what stays.

Can I convert 720p to 1080p?

Yes. The output is a genuine 1920 × 1080 file, but upscaling cannot add new detail, so it will look about as sharp as the 720p original.

Is 1080p the same as Full HD?

Yes. Full HD, FHD and 1080p all refer to 1920 × 1080 for widescreen video. “HD” on its own often means 720p.

Will converting 4K to 1080p make the file smaller?

Normally yes — 1080p has a quarter of the pixels of 4K, so the encoder needs much less data for a good-looking result.

Are my videos uploaded by the 1080p video converter?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
