Convert video to MP3 right in your browser
This video to MP3 converter takes the soundtrack out of a video and saves it as an MP3, the audio format every phone, car stereo, music app and podcast player understands. Drop in an MP4 from your phone, a screen recording, a WebM download or an MKV, choose a bitrate, and you get a constant-bitrate MP3 with its title already filled in. Several videos can be converted in one go and saved together as a ZIP.
Nothing is uploaded. Your browser reads the video straight from your disk, decodes the audio with its built-in WebCodecs decoders and encodes the MP3 with LAME, the open-source encoder behind most desktop audio software, compiled to WebAssembly. Encoding runs many times faster than real time, and there is no file-size limit other than your device’s memory.
How to use the Video to MP3 Converter
- Drop one or more videos on the upload area, or click it to choose files. Each file shows its length, resolution, codecs and size; click a file to preview it.
- Pick an MP3 bitrate: 128 kbps for speech, 192 kbps for most music, 256 or 320 kbps for the best quality MP3 offers.
- Optionally set Start and End to keep only part of the soundtrack, switch Channels to mono, and type an ID3 title and artist.
- Press Convert to MP3. The progress bar shows how far each file has got, and Cancel stops at any time.
- A single file downloads automatically. With several, use the download button on each row or Download all (ZIP).
Video to MP3 Converter features
Real MP3 at the bitrate you choose
Constant-bitrate MP3 at 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps from the LAME 3.100 encoder, playable everywhere from old MP3 players to smart speakers.
Works with common video files
MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, MPEG-TS and Ogg with AAC, Opus, Vorbis, MP3, FLAC or PCM audio. Audio files such as M4A, WAV or FLAC can be converted too.
Trim while converting
Set a start and end time to keep just the song, quote or chapter you need. In a batch the same range applies to every file, clipped to each file’s length.
ID3 tags
Every MP3 gets an ID3v2 title — the file name unless you type one — and an optional artist, so it shows up properly in music libraries and on car displays.
Batch and ZIP
Convert a whole set of clips at once and save them as one ZIP, or download them one by one.
Choose the audio track
If a video carries several audio tracks, such as two languages or a commentary, pick the one to convert for each file.
Which MP3 bitrate should I choose?
Size per minute is the bitrate times 60 seconds divided by 8 bits per byte: 192,000 × 60 ÷ 8 = 1,440,000 bytes. Mono gives the same size at the same bitrate but spends all the bits on one channel, which helps speech at 128 kbps.
An MP3 can’t add quality the video never had. The sound in most phone and web videos is already compressed, usually as AAC, so converting it to a much higher MP3 bitrate mostly makes the file bigger rather than better.
| Bitrate | Size per minute | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 128 kbps | ≈ 0.96 MB | Speech, lectures, podcasts, voice notes |
| 192 kbps | ≈ 1.44 MB | Most music — a sensible default |
| 256 kbps | ≈ 1.92 MB | Music you care about, concert recordings |
| 320 kbps | ≈ 2.4 MB | The highest bitrate MP3 allows |
How the conversion works
The page uses Mediabunny (MPL-2.0), an open-source library that reads MP4, MOV, WebM, Matroska, MPEG-TS and Ogg files, to pull out the audio packets and decode them with your browser’s WebCodecs audio decoder. The decoded sound is mixed down if needed, resampled to 44.1 or 48 kHz when the source uses an unusual rate, and fed to LAME 3.100 (LGPL), which runs in a background worker. Both libraries are loaded unmodified from a public CDN the first time you convert.
The MP3 is constant bitrate (CBR): every frame uses the bitrate you chose. CBR files have a predictable size, seek accurately in every player and are what upload forms and older devices expect. Variable bitrate (VBR) is not offered, because this LAME build only exposes CBR.
MP3 or another audio format?
MP3 is the most compatible choice, but it is a lossy re-encode of audio that is usually compressed already. If you want to edit the sound, or keep an exact copy of it, Video to Audio saves lossless WAV as well as M4A and Opus. To cut the MP3 afterwards use the Audio Cutter, and to keep the picture but lose the sound use Remove Audio from Video.
Video to MP3 Converter FAQ
How do I convert MP4 to MP3?
Drop the MP4 on this page, choose a bitrate and press Convert to MP3. The MP3 downloads as soon as it is ready. MOV, WebM and MKV videos work the same way.
Is this video to MP3 converter free and private?
Yes. There is no sign-up, watermark or limit, and the video never leaves your device: decoding and MP3 encoding both run inside your browser.
Can I convert just part of a video to MP3?
Yes. Enter a Start and End time, such as 1:05 and 2:30, before converting. Leave End empty to go to the end of the file.
Why does a file say its audio can’t be decoded?
Browsers often can’t decode the surround formats used on discs and TV recordings, such as AC-3, E-AC-3 and DTS. Files with AAC, Opus, Vorbis, MP3, FLAC or PCM audio work.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, in current mobile browsers with WebCodecs support, such as Chrome on Android; the page tells you if your browser lacks it. Very long videos need enough free memory, because the MP3 is assembled in memory before it is saved.
Can I make a VBR MP3 or go above 320 kbps?
No. 320 kbps is the highest bitrate the MP3 standard defines, and the encoder used here produces constant bitrate only.
