Video Cutter

Remove one or more sections from a video, or keep only the parts you mark — lossless or frame-accurate.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

An online video cutter that removes the parts you do not want

The Video Cutter takes sections out of the middle of a video and joins what is left — or does the opposite and keeps only the moments you mark. Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file, drag across the filmstrip to mark a section, add as many as twenty, and press Cut video. It is the quickest way to drop an awkward pause from a talk, the boring stretch of a gameplay capture, or every take you fluffed in a phone recording.

Cutting runs on your own device with WebCodecs and the Mediabunny library (MPL-2.0); the file is never uploaded. In fast mode the remaining parts are stitched together by copying the original compressed packets, so the picture and sound are untouched and even long recordings finish in seconds. Precise mode re-encodes so every cut falls on the exact frame you chose.

How to use the Video Cutter

  1. Drop a video onto the box or click to choose one. The filmstrip, keyframe ticks and file details appear.
  2. Choose whether the marked sections should be removed or whether you want to keep only them.
  3. Drag across the filmstrip to mark a section, or move the playhead and press Add section at playhead. Fine-tune each section with its handles or by typing start and end times in the list below.
  4. Pick Fast · lossless or Precise · re-encode. The green bar under the filmstrip shows exactly which parts will be kept.
  5. Press Preview result to watch the edit with the gaps skipped, then Cut video and Download video.

Video Cutter features

Several cuts in one pass

Mark up to twenty sections and remove them all at once — no need to cut, download and re-open the file for each mistake.

Remove or keep

Flip one switch to turn “cut these out” into “keep only these”, which is ideal for pulling highlights out of a long stream or lecture.

Lossless joins

Fast mode copies the original H.264, H.265, VP9 or AV1 packets and their audio into one new file, so nothing is re-compressed.

Frame-accurate when needed

Precise mode decodes and re-encodes, cutting on exact frames and trimming the audio to the sample at every join.

Live preview of the result

Preview plays the kept parts back to back, skipping the removed sections, so you can check the edit before exporting.

Touch, mouse and keyboard

Draw sections with a finger, nudge handles a frame at a time with the arrow keys, and type exact times for each section.

How lossless cutting works

A compressed video is a chain of frames in which only the keyframes are complete pictures; the rest store differences from their neighbours. Fast mode never decodes those frames. It reads the packets that belong to the parts you keep, shifts their timestamps so the parts follow one another, and writes them into a new container together with the matching audio packets. Because no frame is re-compressed, the output is bit-for-bit the same picture as the source.

The catch is that every kept part has to begin on a keyframe, or the first frames after a join would have nothing to refer to. The tool therefore moves each start to a keyframe — before, after or nearest, as you choose — and shows the result as a green bar. Ends are frame-accurate unless the file uses B-frames, in which case they also land on keyframes. If a cut point is far from any keyframe, switch to precise mode.

Common cutting jobs

  • Remove dead air from a recording: mark each long pause and remove them in one go.
  • Make a highlight reel: switch to “Keep only them”, mark the best moments and export one short video.
  • Remove a private moment: use precise mode, or fast mode with “Keyframe after”, so not a single frame of the removed part survives.
  • Shorten the ends only: the simpler Trim Video tool has just a start and end handle.
  • Make several separate files instead of one: use Split Video, and stitch different recordings together with Merge Videos.

Video Cutter FAQ

How do I cut a part out of the middle of a video?

Choose “Remove them”, drag across the filmstrip over the part you do not want, adjust the handles, then press Cut video. The pieces before and after are joined automatically.

Can I cut a video without losing quality?

Yes — fast mode copies the original packets, so quality is identical. The only compromise is that kept parts begin on keyframes, which the green bar shows before you export.

Why did a little of the removed part stay in my video?

In fast mode with “Keyframe before”, a kept part starts at the keyframe before your cut point. Choose “Keyframe after” or precise mode to remove every frame you marked.

How many sections can I remove at once?

Up to twenty. They cannot overlap; if you need more, export once and cut the result again.

Is this online video cutter safe for private videos?

Yes. The video is read and processed inside your browser and never uploaded. The page only loads the Mediabunny library from a public CDN.

Does the audio stay in sync after cutting?

Yes. Audio is cut at the same points as the video in both modes, and every joined part starts with its audio aligned to the first frame.
