How this was worked out

TDS rate chart, tax year 2026-27 (residents)

Rules used (as of October 2026): Income-tax Act, 2025 as amended by the Finance Act, 2026 — salary s.392, other payments s.393(1) and (3) Tables, no deduction s.393(4), Form 121 declarations s.393(6), lower-deduction certificates s.395, PAN and the 20% / 5% rate s.397(2), interest on late deduction or payment s.398(3); “rates in force” from the First Schedule, Part II, Finance Act, 2026; deposit dates and forms from the Income-tax Rules, 2026 (Rule 218; Forms 121, 138, 140, 141). TDS calculator for tax year 2026-27 under the new Income-tax Act

This TDS calculator works out the tax to deduct at source on the payments people actually make — rent, professional and contractor fees, FD interest, dividends, property purchases, commission, crypto, winnings and salary. Pick the payment, enter the amount and who pays whom, and it checks the threshold, applies the right rate, and shows the TDS, the net amount to pay, the date to deposit it and the quarterly statement it goes in.

From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act, and the old sections such as 194C, 194J and 194-I became serial numbers in the tables of section 393. Every result shows both the new reference and the old section, so it matches what your accountant, bank or software calls it. It covers resident payees; for property bought from an NRI, use the TDS on property calculator. Results are estimates, not tax advice.

How to use the TDS Calculator

    1. Search for the payment in Find a payment type — “rent”, “FD” or an old section such as “194J” — and pick it from the list.
    2. Enter the amount and the date. For yearly limits, add what you have already paid to this payee this tax year and any TDS already deducted.
    3. Choose who pays and who receives. Tick whether the payee has given a PAN, is 60 or older, or has given Form 121.
    4. Read the TDS, net payment, deposit date and statement form; the numbered list explains each step.
    5. Open the rate chart for every section at a glance, or enter a different rate if you hold a lower-deduction certificate.

    What changed for 2026-27

    • New section numbers. Salary is section 392; most other payments to residents are in the table of section 393(1), and winnings, lottery commission and partners’ pay in section 393(3). Rates and limits carried over unchanged.
    • Budget 2025 limits still apply. They raised the senior-citizen interest limit to ₹1 lakh, other bank interest to ₹50,000, rent to ₹50,000 a month, professional fees to ₹50,000, commission to ₹20,000 and dividends to ₹10,000, and removed the higher rate for people who had not filed returns.
    • Finance Act, 2026. Supply of manpower is expressly “work”, so contractor rates of 1% or 2% apply; interest on motor-accident compensation paid to an individual is free of TDS; from April 2027 investors can file their nil-tax declaration through their depository.
    • New forms. Form 121 replaces Forms 15G and 15H; quarterly statements are Form 138 for salary and Form 140 for other payments; property, individual rent and 194M deductions use challan-cum-statement Form 141.

No PAN, Form 121 and deposit dates

If the payee gives no valid PAN, tax is deducted at the higher of the normal rate and 20% — or 5% for purchase of goods and e-commerce. On rent paid by an individual, that deduction cannot exceed one month’s rent. A resident individual or HUF can give Form 121 to stop TDS on interest, dividends, rent, insurance commission and EPF if their tax for the year will be nil; someone under 60 cannot use it once these payments exceed ₹4 lakh, the new-regime basic exemption.

TDS deducted in a month is due by the 7th of the next month, except March, which is due by 30 April. Form 141 deductions are due within 30 days after the month ends. Statements are due on 31 July, 31 October, 31 January and 31 May. To check what TDS on salary means for take-home pay, use the in-hand salary calculator or the income tax calculator; for FD interest, the FD calculator.

    TDS Calculator FAQ

How do I use a TDS calculator?

Choose the payment, enter the amount and what you have already paid that payee this tax year, and say who pays whom. The TDS calculator checks the limit, applies the rate for that section and shows the TDS, the net payment and the due date.

What is section 393 of the Income-tax Act, 2025?

It is the main TDS section from 1 April 2026. Its tables replace the separate sections 193 to 194T of the 1961 Act — for example rent under 194-I is now section 393(1), Table Sl. No. 2.

What is the TDS rate on rent in 2026-27?

10% for land, buildings and furniture and 2% for machinery, once rent exceeds ₹50,000 a month. An individual or HUF below the audit turnover limits deducts 2% once, in March or the last month of the tenancy, using Form 141 without a TAN.

How much TDS is deducted on FD interest?

10% once your interest from one bank exceeds ₹50,000 in the year, or ₹1 lakh if you are 60 or older; 20% without a PAN. Form 121 stops it if your tax for the year will be nil.

What happens if the payee has no PAN?

Tax is deducted at the higher of the normal rate and 20% (5% for goods purchases and e-commerce), and a Form 121 declaration becomes invalid.

    When must TDS be deposited?

By the 7th of the following month, or 30 April for March deductions. Late deduction costs 1% a month in interest and late payment 1.5% a month; the TDS late fee calculator works out both.
