Work out your SGPA from marks and credits
This SGPA calculator turns the marks you scored in each subject into your Semester Grade Point Average on the 10-point scale used by Indian universities. Enter each subject’s credits and total marks (internal plus end-semester), choose your university, and every subject gets its letter grade and grade point from that university’s own published table — then the credit-weighted SGPA appears instantly.
Grade tables are built in for VTU (2022 scheme), KTU (2019 and 2024 B.Tech schemes), SPPU, AKTU and GGSIPU (IPU), each linked to the regulation it comes from. If your grade card already shows grade points, or your university is not listed, switch to “Grade points from my grade card” and type them in. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use the SGPA Calculator
- Choose your university’s grade table, or “Grade points from my grade card”.
- For each subject enter the credits and the marks scored; change “out of” if the total is not 100.
- Use “Add subject” for more rows and × to remove one. Zero-credit (audit or non-credit) courses are left out.
- Read your SGPA, the formula with credit points, and the table showing each subject’s grade and grade point.
- Press “Copy result”, then combine semesters with the SGPA to CGPA calculator.
SGPA Calculator features
Five university tables
VTU 2022, KTU 2019/2024, SPPU, AKTU and IPU, with the regulation linked under the result.
Marks to grade
Converts marks out of any total into a percentage and applies the table’s cut-offs exactly.
Grade points mode
Type grade points straight from a grade card for any 10-point university.
Credit-weighted
Four-credit subjects count four times as much as one-credit labs, as on the grade card.
Failed subjects shown
A grade point of 0 is counted over its credits and flagged in the formula.
How SGPA is calculated
Each subject’s total percentage is turned into a grade point, multiplied by its credits to give credit points, and the credit points are divided by the total credits: SGPA = Σ(credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits. VTU’s 2022 regulation (22OB 6.6) sets out exactly this formula and rounds the SGPA to two decimals.
Worked example (VTU 2022, the default): 86 in a 4-credit subject is A+ (9 × 4 = 36), 78 in a 4-credit subject is A (32), 92 in a 3-credit subject is O (30), 67 in a 3-credit subject is B+ (21), 95 in a 1-credit lab is O (10), 58 in a 1-credit subject is B (6), 74 in a 2-credit subject is A (16) and 49 in a 2-credit subject is P (8). That is 159 credit points over 20 credits — an SGPA of 7.95. The same marks give 8.05 under AKTU’s table, 7.50 under KTU’s (49% is an F there) and 8.75 under SPPU’s 80-point scale.
University grade tables (marks % → grade point)
Read on 24 October 2026 in each university’s regulation: VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022, 22OB 6.1; KTU B.Tech Regulations 2019 (R6.16) and 2024 (R7.21), which share one table; SPPU Rules for the Credit and Semester System (from 2018-19), the 80/70/60 scale printed on its engineering result sheets; AKTU B.Tech ordinance, clause 14.1; GGSIPU Ordinance 11, clause 11.5. A range such as 80–<85 means 80% and above but below 85%.

Things to check on your grade card
- Pass conditions: KTU awards F when the end-semester exam is below 40% even if the total is 50% or more; VTU sets a minimum in the SEE too. This calculator grades the total only.
- SPPU patterns: the F.E. 2019-pattern rules print a different 90/80/70 table (O, A, B, C…), while result sheets use the 80/70/60 scale shown here. If your grade letters differ, use grade-points mode.
- Older schemes: VTU’s 2018 and 2021 schemes and other universities may use different cut-offs — type the grade points from your grade card.
- Percentage: converting a CGPA to a percentage has its own university rule; use the CGPA to percentage converter. “SGPA × 10” above is only a rough guide.
SGPA Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate SGPA from marks?
Convert each subject’s marks to a grade point with your university’s table, multiply by the subject’s credits, add the results and divide by the total credits. With 159 credit points over 20 credits the SGPA is 7.95.
How is VTU SGPA calculated?
VTU (2022 scheme) gives O = 10 for 90–100, A+ = 9 for 80–89, A = 8 for 70–79, B+ = 7 for 60–69, B = 6 for 55–59, C = 5 for 50–54, P = 4 for 40–49 and F = 0 below 40, then SGPA = Σ(credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits.
What is the KTU grade table?
S = 10 for 90% and above, A+ = 9 from 85%, A = 8.5 from 80%, B+ = 8 from 75%, B = 7.5 from 70%, C+ = 7 from 65%, C = 6.5 from 60%, D = 6 from 55%, P = 5.5 from 50%, and F below 50% or below 40% in the end-semester exam.
Does a failed subject count in SGPA?
In this calculator an F counts as 0 grade points over its credits, which lowers the SGPA. Some universities declare the SGPA only after every subject is passed, so check your grade card.
What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
SGPA covers one semester; CGPA is the credit-weighted average over all semesters so far. Use the SGPA to CGPA calculator to combine them.
Is this my official SGPA?
No. It applies the published grade table to the marks you enter; moderation, grace marks and pass rules can change the official result.
