PIN Code Finder India — Search by Place, Check Distance Between PIN Codes

Find an Indian PIN code by post office or area, find PINs near you, and measure the distance between two PINs.

What do you want to do?
Enter a PIN codeType a six-digit PIN code to see its area, district and post offices.

Data: “All India Pincode Directory” (post offices with latitude and longitude), Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, published on the Open Government Data (OGD) Platform India, data.gov.in, under the Government Open Data License – India (GODL-India); the dataset was last updated on 3 October 2025. It lists 165,627 post offices; this page keeps one record per PIN (19,586 PINs, 19,550 with coordinates). Not an official India Post service and not endorsed by the Government of India.

Check before you rely on it. PIN codes and post offices change, and some coordinates in the source are approximate. For an address, confirm the PIN with India Post. The main distance is straight-line; the road distance runs between the two area centres, not your exact addresses.

Runs in your browser. The first time you search, it downloads the PIN directory (about 150 KB compressed for PINs, 0.7 MB for post office names, once) from this site. Your location, if you share it, is used in the page only. “Get road distance” sends the two PIN area centres to the public Valhalla routing server of FOSSGIS e.V., only when you press it.

PIN code finder for India: by place, by location and by distance

This PIN code finder looks up any Indian PIN code and tells you its district, state and post offices, and works the other way round too: type a post office, locality or district name and see the matching PIN codes. A distance mode measures the straight-line distance between two PIN codes — and, when you press a button, the road distance and driving time between them — and Near me lists the PIN code areas closest to where you are, which answers “pincode of my location” searches.

It uses the post office directory that the Department of Posts publishes on the Open Government Data platform: 165,627 post offices, condensed into 19,586 PIN codes. Nothing is looked up on a server: the data is downloaded once to your browser and searched there, and your location, if you share it, is not sent anywhere. It is a reference and a planning aid, not an official India Post service.

How the PIN code is organised and how distance is worked out

An Indian PIN code has six digits. The first digit is the postal zone (for example 1 for Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and neighbours, 4 for Maharashtra and Gujarat, 5 for the Telugu states and Karnataka, 6 for Tamil Nadu and Kerala, 7 for the east and 8 for Bihar and Jharkhand). The first two digits narrow it to a sub-zone, the first three to a sorting district, and the last three identify the delivery post office.

For distance, each PIN is placed at the median of the latitude and longitude of its post offices, and the haversine formula gives the great-circle distance on a sphere of radius 6,371 km. New Delhi (110001) to Mumbai (400001) comes out near 1,165 km in a straight line; the road is longer. The distance is useful for rough zones and quick checks, not for pricing freight: use the shipping cost calculator or the distance calculator when you need route-based figures.

1Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh
    2Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand
    3Rajasthan, Gujarat
    4Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh

    Data, accuracy and limits

    • Data: All India Pincode Directory, Department of Posts, via data.gov.in under GODL-India, updated 3 October 2025. New and changed PIN codes after that date are not included.
    • Some post office coordinates in the source are approximate, and 36 PIN codes have none, so the area centre and the distances are rough; a few may be tens of kilometres off.
    • The place search matches post office and district names only, not street names, house numbers or colony names that are not post offices.
    • To check bank branches use the IFSC code finder; for tax-office codes and invoices see the GSTIN validator.

PIN Code Finder & Distance (India) FAQ

How do I find the PIN code of my area?

Choose Search by place and type your post office, locality or district name, or press Near me to find the PIN code areas closest to your position.

How do I find the pincode of my location?

Use the Near me mode, press Use my location and allow your browser to share it. The closest PIN area centres are listed. Check against your postal address, because PIN boundaries are irregular.

How do I find the distance between two PIN codes?

Choose Distance and enter both PIN codes. The tool shows the straight-line distance in kilometres and miles between the two area centres.

Is the distance the driving distance?

The main figure is the straight-line (great-circle) distance. Press Get road distance for the quickest road route between the two area centres on OpenStreetMap data, with a free-flow driving time. Pairs more than 1,500 km apart in a straight line get a marked estimate (straight line × 1.3) instead.

What is the distance from Delhi to Jaipur?

In Distance mode press the Jaipur button: New Delhi (110001) to Jaipur (302001) is about 234 km in a straight line, and Get road distance adds the road route and driving time. For any two cities or addresses, use the road distance calculator.

Where does the data come from?

The Department of Posts’ All India Pincode Directory on data.gov.in, published under the Government Open Data License – India and last updated on 3 October 2025.

Does it work offline or send my location anywhere?

The directory is downloaded once and then searched in your browser. Your location, if you share it, is used only in the page and is not sent to any server.

Is this an official India Post tool?

No. It is an independent reference built on public data. For delivery or a legal address, confirm the PIN with India Post.
