Marketplace seller profit calculator for Indian online sellers

This marketplace seller profit calculator shows what you really keep from one order on an Indian online marketplace. Enter the selling price, your product cost and the numbers from your marketplace’s fee card — commission, fixed or closing fee by price band, payment or collection fee and the shipping fee for your weight slab — and it works out the GST on the sale and on the fees, the TCS and TDS the marketplace withholds, the cost of returns and RTO, your ad spend, and the profit and margin that are left.

It also answers the two questions sellers ask most: what selling price breaks even, and what price gives the profit or margin you want. The bank settlement shows the cash that reaches your account, which differs from profit because GST, TCS and TDS pass through it.

How to use the Marketplace Seller Profit Calculator (India)

  1. Pick a fee card: an example to start from, or Blank to enter your own.
  2. Enter the selling price including GST, any shipping you charge the buyer, the GST rate on the product, your product cost, packaging and ad spend per order.
  3. Copy your commission %, payment fee %, shipping fee and the fixed or closing fee for each price band from the marketplace’s fee card.
  4. Check the TCS (0.5%) and TDS (0.1%) rates, then enter your return/RTO rate, the charges you pay on each return and the share of returns you cannot resell.
  5. Set a target profit in rupees or a margin %, and read the profit, settlement, break-even price and the price that hits your target. Copy the breakdown.

Marketplace Seller Profit Calculator (India) features

GST handled both ways

Output GST is taken out of the GST-inclusive price; 18% GST on fees is either a cost or an input credit.

TCS and TDS shown separately

Withheld tax reduces your bank settlement but not your profit, because it is credited back — the calculator keeps the two apart.

Price-band fixed fees

Four editable bands for closing or fixed fees that depend on the selling price, applied automatically as the price changes.

Returns and RTO built in

Expected profit allows for the return rate, the charges per return and the stock you cannot resell.

Break-even and target price

A solver finds the selling price for zero profit and for your target profit or margin, re-applying every percentage fee and price band.

Line-by-line breakdown

Every fee, tax and cost on its own line, ready to copy.

How the profit per order is calculated

  1. Net sales value = (selling price + shipping charged) ÷ (1 + GST rate). On ₹799 at 5% GST that is ₹760.95; the ₹38.05 difference is GST you remit after credits.
  2. Marketplace fees = commission % × price + fixed fee for the price band + payment fee % × order value + shipping fee + other fees. In the default example: ₹95.88 + ₹30 + ₹15.98 + ₹70 = ₹211.86.
  3. GST on fees = 18% of the fees (₹38.13). If you are GST-registered and claim it as input tax credit, it is not a cost; otherwise it is.
  4. Profit on a delivered order = net sales − fees − product cost − packaging − other costs = ₹234.09.
  5. Expected profit = (1 − return rate) × delivered-order profit − return rate × loss per return − ad spend. With 10% returns costing ₹165 each and ₹40 of ads: ₹154.18, a 22.5% margin on net sales.
  6. Bank settlement = order value − fees − GST on fees − TCS − TDS = ₹544.44.

Tips for pricing on marketplaces

  • Watch the price bands: a ₹999 listing can pay a smaller fixed fee than ₹1,001, so a rupee or two can change your margin.
  • Returns and RTO can cost more than the commission: at a 25% return rate one order in four earns nothing and still pays shipping both ways.
  • For product-level GST maths use the GST calculator; for overseas platforms in dollars or pounds use the marketplace fee calculator; and compare courier rate cards with the shipping cost calculator.

Marketplace Seller Profit Calculator (India) FAQ

How do I calculate profit on an online marketplace in India?

Take the selling price, remove the GST inside it, subtract the commission, fixed fee, payment fee, shipping fee and (if you cannot claim it) the 18% GST on those fees, then subtract product, packaging and ad costs and allow for returns. This marketplace seller profit calculator does each step and shows it line by line.

Is TCS a cost for the seller?

No. The 0.5% TCS is deducted from your settlement but credited to your GST electronic cash ledger, so it reduces cash flow rather than profit. The same applies to the 0.1% TDS, which you claim against income tax.

Can I claim GST charged on marketplace commission?

A GST-registered seller can normally claim the 18% GST on marketplace fees as input tax credit, provided the invoice shows your GSTIN. Untick the box if you are not registered or cannot claim it.

What is the break-even selling price?

The lowest price at which expected profit is zero after every fee, tax, cost, return and ad. Because commission and payment fees are percentages, raising the price by ₹100 adds less than ₹100 of profit; the calculator solves for it exactly.

How does the return or RTO rate change my profit?

A returned order earns nothing and costs shipping both ways, fees that are not refunded and any stock you cannot resell. Expected profit weights delivered and returned orders by your return rate.

Are the preset fees correct for my marketplace?

No — they are illustrative examples so the calculator shows a working answer. Commissions, fixed fees and shipping slabs vary by marketplace, category and price, and change often. Enter the numbers from your own seller dashboard.
