Magnifier Online — Use Your Phone Camera as a Magnifying Glass

Turn your phone camera into a magnifying glass: zoom, freeze, high contrast and the torch for small print.

The camera starts only when you press the button. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
2.0×

Camera off. Press “Start magnifier” and allow the camera; hold the phone 10–20 cm above the text.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

A free magnifier online that uses your camera

This magnifier online turns the camera of your phone, tablet or laptop into a magnifying glass. Point it at a medicine label, a bill, a menu, a tiny screw or a splinter and see it up to ten times larger on the screen — no app to install.

It uses the camera’s own zoom where the browser allows it (mostly Chrome on Android) and a sharp digital zoom everywhere else. You can freeze the picture to read it comfortably, slide it around with a finger, switch to high-contrast or white-on-black text, and turn on the phone’s light where supported.

The camera starts only when you press the button, the picture is processed inside your browser, and nothing is recorded or uploaded.

How to use the Online Magnifier

  1. Press Start magnifier and allow the camera. On a phone the rear camera is used.
  2. Hold the phone 10–20 cm above the text and set the zoom with the slider, the + and − buttons, a pinch, or the mouse wheel.
  3. Tap Freeze to hold the picture still, then drag it to read across the page. Tap Live view to go back.
  4. Choose a View — high contrast or white text on black often reads more easily — and adjust the brightness.
  5. Press Light on in a dim room (if the button appears), Full screen for the largest picture, or Save picture to keep a PNG.

Online Magnifier features

Up to 10× zoom

Hardware zoom through the camera’s zoom setting where available, digital crop-and-scale on every device.

Freeze frame

Stop the picture to read without shaking, then pan around it by dragging or with the arrow keys.

Reading views

High contrast in grey, white text on black and inverted colours, plus 50–200% brightness.

Phone light

Switches on the LED beside the camera on phones and browsers that expose the torch setting.

Works without a camera

Open a photo or screenshot instead and zoom into it the same way.

Private

No recording, no upload; the camera stops when you press Stop or leave the page.

Which phones support zoom and the light?

Web pages reach camera features through the browser, so what you get depends on it. The magnifier always works with digital zoom; the extras appear only when the camera reports them.

Tips for reading small print

  • Light matters more than zoom: use the phone light, a lamp, or the flashlight page on a second device.
  • Do not hold the phone too close — cameras cannot focus nearer than about 8–10 cm. Move back and zoom in instead.
  • Freeze first, then zoom: a still picture at 4× is easier to read than a shaking one at 8×.
  • Digital zoom enlarges pixels, so very high zoom looks soft; 2–5× is the sweet spot for most labels.
  • For text you can type or paste, a big clear printout is better than a camera: make one with the large print maker, or show a message in huge letters with big text display.

How it works

The page asks the browser for a camera stream (getUserMedia), draws each frame onto a canvas and crops the centre to the zoom you choose. If the camera reports a zoom range, that optical or sensor zoom is used first and the rest is digital. The reading views are CSS filters on the live picture; when you save, the same grey-scale, contrast and inversion maths is applied to every pixel of the PNG.

A magnifier is a reading aid, not a medical device. If small print has become hard to read, have your eyes checked — the eye test chart is a quick screening, not a substitute for an optician.

Online Magnifier FAQ

Is this online magnifier free?

Yes. It is free, needs no app or sign-up, and works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers with a camera.

Does the magnifier record or upload my camera?

No. Frames are drawn in your browser and thrown away; nothing is stored or sent anywhere unless you press Save picture, which saves a PNG to your own device.

Why is there no light button on my iPhone?

iOS browsers do not let web pages control the camera LED. Turn on the torch from Control Centre, then come back to the magnifier.

Why is the picture blurry at high zoom?

Digital zoom enlarges the camera’s pixels. Move the phone a little further away so it can focus, add light, freeze the frame, and use 2–5× zoom.

Can I magnify a photo or screenshot instead?

Yes. Press “Magnify a photo instead”, pick an image, and zoom and drag it just like the live camera.
