Convert JFIF to PNG for editing and wider app support
A .jfif file is a JPEG photo with an unusual extension, and some apps refuse it on sight. This JFIF to PNG converter decodes the image and saves it as a PNG — a lossless format accepted by practically every editor, website builder and design tool. Batch convert as many files as you like, then download them individually or in one ZIP, without uploading anything.
PNG is the right target when you plan to edit the picture, add text or transparency, or need a format a particular app insists on. If you just want a normal photo file, JFIF to JPG is faster and keeps the file small.
How to use the JFIF to PNG Converter
- Drop your .jfif images onto the upload area, or click it to browse. You can also paste an image with Ctrl+V.
- Choose whether to Keep or Remove the camera data (EXIF).
- Each PNG appears in the list with its size; click a thumbnail to preview it.
- Download the PNGs, or press Download all to get a ZIP.
JFIF to PNG Converter features
Reads any JPEG extension
.jfif, .jfi, .jif, .jpe, .jpeg and .jpg are all recognised by their content and decoded the same way.
Lossless PNG output
The PNG holds exactly the decoded pixels, so later edits and saves don’t degrade it.
Correct rotation
Photos that rely on an EXIF orientation flag are turned upright before saving.
EXIF carried into PNG
Choose Keep and the camera data goes into the PNG’s standard eXIf chunk, with the orientation reset.
Fast batches
Convert a folder of downloads at once and save them as a ZIP.
What a JFIF file contains
JFIF — the JPEG File Interchange Format — is the file structure most JPEG images have used since 1992. It starts with the JPEG start-of-image marker (bytes FF D8), followed by an APP0 segment containing the letters “JFIF”, a version number and the image’s pixel density, and then the compressed image data. A file named photo.jfif and one named photo.jpg are normally identical inside.
That is why this converter decodes JFIF exactly like JPG. The resulting PNG starts with its own eight-byte signature, 89 50 4E 47 0D 0A 1A 0A, and stores the pixels with lossless DEFLATE compression in chunks such as IHDR (size and colour type), IDAT (image data) and, if you keep camera data, eXIf.
JFIF to PNG or JFIF to JPG?
| Goal | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Upload or share a photo | JPG | Same quality, small file, instant |
| Edit, retouch or add text | PNG | No further loss on each save |
| Make the background transparent later | PNG | PNG supports an alpha channel |
| Smallest file for a website | WebP | Better compression than JPG or PNG |
| Several photos in one document | One file, easy to print |
How big will the PNG be?
Turning a JPEG photo into PNG almost always makes the file larger, often several times larger, because PNG keeps every bit of the photo’s natural noise and texture. That is the cost of a lossless, edit-friendly copy. Screenshots and images with large flat areas grow far less. If the PNG ends up too big, scale its dimensions down with the image resizer.
JFIF to PNG Converter FAQ
How do I convert JFIF to PNG?
Drop the .jfif files on the converter, choose whether to keep EXIF data, and download the PNGs one by one or all together as a ZIP.
Why can’t some apps open JFIF files?
Many apps decide what a file is from its extension, and .jfif isn’t on their list even though the contents are standard JPEG. Converting to PNG — or simply to JPG — fixes that.
Does converting JFIF to PNG lose quality?
No further quality is lost: the PNG stores the decoded image exactly. Existing JPEG compression artefacts remain, since PNG can’t restore detail that was discarded.
Will the PNG be transparent?
Not by itself — a JPEG has no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque. You can erase the background in an editor afterwards and the PNG will keep it transparent.
Can I keep the date and camera information?
Yes. Choose Keep under Camera data (EXIF) and the EXIF block is copied into the PNG. Choose Remove to leave out GPS location and other personal details.
Is there a file size or count limit?
No fixed limit. Very large batches are bounded only by your device’s memory, and nothing is uploaded.
