Cat pregnancy calculator: when are the kittens due?
This cat pregnancy calculator works out when your cat’s kittens are due from the date she mated. It gives the typical due date, the normal range of dates, how many days pregnant she is today, and a week-by-week cat pregnancy calendar with what to expect and what to prepare.
Cats are pregnant for about nine weeks. Because queens only release eggs after mating, the mating date is a better guide for cats than it is for dogs — but births still spread over a week or more. The Merck Veterinary Manual gives about 64–66 days from the hormone surge that mating triggers, and a study of a research colony found a range of 62 to 71 days.
If you only know roughly when she was with a tom, enter your best guess and treat every date as approximate. Your vet can confirm the pregnancy and estimate how far along she is.
How to use the Cat Pregnancy Calculator
- Enter the first mating date. If she mated over several days, add the last mating date.
- Read the typical due date (day 65) and the normal window (days 62–71).
- Check the line under the result for today’s day and week of pregnancy.
- Use the key dates and the calendar to book a vet check and prepare the queening box.
- Press Copy dates to keep the dates, and read the warning signs before the birth.

How long are cats pregnant?
Most cats give birth about 63 to 67 days after mating, and the figure most often quoted is about nine weeks. This calculator uses 65 days as the typical due date — the middle of the 64–66 days the Merck Veterinary Manual gives from the LH surge, which in cats happens soon after mating. The normal window of 62–71 days comes from Root, Johnston and Olson (1995), who recorded an average of 66.9 days in a colony of queens.
Example: mated on 1 March 2026. Day 65 is Tuesday 5 May, the window runs from 2 May to 11 May, and Merck’s 70-day limit for a prolonged pregnancy falls on 10 May. If she mated again on 3 March, the end of the window moves to 13 May.
Signs of pregnancy and when a vet can confirm it
A late-pregnancy X-ray lets your vet count the kittens, which tells you when the last one has arrived.
- Week 3: nipples often become pinker and more prominent (“pinking up”).
- Days 21–30: a vet can confirm the pregnancy by gently feeling the abdomen or with an ultrasound scan (Merck, “Breeding Management of Queens”).
- From week 5: weight gain and a rounder belly; appetite grows.
- Last week: nesting, restlessness, loss of appetite and more grooming often mean labour is close.
Feeding and care while she is pregnant
A pregnant cat’s energy needs rise steadily, especially in the final weeks and while nursing. Many owners switch to a complete kitten food and offer several small meals; ask your vet what suits your cat, and use the cat food calculator as a starting point for calories. Keep her indoors, avoid flea or worming products your vet has not approved, and check the toxic foods list before sharing anything from your plate. For dogs, use the dog pregnancy calculator.
Cat Pregnancy Calculator FAQ
How long is a cat pregnant?
About 63 to 67 days, roughly nine weeks. This cat pregnancy calculator uses day 65 as the typical due date and 62–71 days as the normal range.

Add 65 days to the first mating date. If she mated over several days, the kittens may come up to 71 days after the last mating.
How soon can a vet confirm my cat is pregnant?
Usually 21 to 30 days after mating, by gently feeling the abdomen or by ultrasound.
What are the signs that labour is near?
Nesting in a hidden spot, restlessness, loud calling, loss of appetite and licking her genital area. Many cats stop eating in the last 24 hours.
